He has a good pulse on the team? If he did I think maybe he would have done something like, you know, fix their 5v5 play. If they have the basically same roster as last season it shouldn’t be this bad, right? If he had a good pulse on the team, don’t you think he’d continue to play Jones-Schneider?

their spot in the standings is because of Igor. Igor was not playing at this level last season even as good as he was.
And yet he's constantly said he's not worried about the lack of 5v5 goals, and that so long as they score goals he doesnt' see it as an issue.

Because he's not worried about the lack of 5v5 goals makes it ok?

It's a huge issue. He's not worried about it because he's a moron.

He's been unceremoniously dismissed from EVERY TEAM. He didn't even make it 3 years in Vegas.

And every single time people consider it a wtf moment. he clashes with ownership and gm's not the players. He gets good results from players.
Im not saying he's a perfect head coach but every single head coach in the nhl plays guys like rooney and is slow to play guys like barron.

It isn’t Gallants fault that Kakko and Lafreniere have sucked this year.

Frankly, the only player use things that stick out in a big way are not giving Barron much of a leash, and not recognizing Hunt doesn’t work with Panarin a heck of a lot sooner

Agree we should deal nils.
But according to OTT fans Brannstrom has been good for them. Think you caught him on a bad day

Brannstrom took 3 minor penalties in the first period against the Sabres a few nights ago. DJ Smith wasn't happy with that performance. His name has been mentioned in trade rumors. Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman have discussed him on their podcast. He was also mentioned in The Athletic article regarding the which team says no to trade proposals. One of the executives said Ottawa is trying to move Brannstrom to his 3rd NHL team, another executive said Brannstrom needs "to be great offensively to carve out a significant NHL role" for him in The NHL and hasn't done it so far and the other exec said "are people trying to pretend Brannstrom is good again". Those were the responses regarding Brannstrom in the trade proposals.

He's a moron and yet has our team looking down at the wild card. Its reactionary comments like this that make me dislike this board.
He's a good hockey coach, hes getting improvements in almost every area we want improvements, and yet the board is absolutely furious because we're not "winning the way they want".
kakko had looked like a top 6 before getting hurt, laf is now looking like a top 6 guy. Our D looks set for the next 5+ years. We have a top 5 pp in the league along with a top 5 pk.

The lines makeup is the same issue Quinn fell into. All kids on 1 line doesn't work to their benefit. There's no leadership and they get benched in crunch time because 'he doesn't trust them'.

Our goals for are down from last year, and Kakko and Laf look no better than before, and we are a way worse 5v5 team. Our GA is down but that is 99% because of Igor.

What exactly has he installed here?

I don't know if I'd count on Chytil as 2C. I'd like him as a RWer a lot more.

The problem is our middle 6 centers are average to poor defensively.

Lehkonen is a must IMO. We need a matchup line.

In the short term;

Kreider Zibs Laffy
Panarin Strome Chytil
Lekhonen Goodrow Kakko

Long term Center option will be most likely off-season moves. I'm more than fine with a Lundkvist for Turcotte swap

I do not want to rush Othmann or Cuylle nor would I want to trade Berard because he's the exact type of player we need.

I honestly would rather break up Panarin and Strome but I know it wont happen. I'd stack the top line and give Strome some kids.

Panarin Zibs Kreider
Lafreniere Strome Chytil
Lehkonen Goodrow Kakko

Panarin would benefit the most playing with Kreider. He creates space with his speed. When Panarin pulls his pateneted 'pull up on the boards' routine, Kreider driving the net opens A LOT more lanes. Zibs would be our biggest threat and beneficiary. It'd be akin to the Kreider-Zibs-Zucc line that caught fire before Zucc was moved.

Panarin-Strome-Chytil has no defense. Panarin-Chytil would have Chytil in the PLD/Kreider driving the net role and Panarin as the playmaker with Kakko as defensive conscience. If the Rangers cannot develop Chytil into a PLD type they have failed, atm it looks like they are not even trying to do anything in particular. Kakko on the third line is a waste. Kakko is about the only forward that tries to play a structured game, and for his pains he gets demoted to the third line?

It's clear that for whatever reason Panarin does not like to play with Zib.

In terms of actual centers who may be available who fit this teams cap, needs and won’t cost an insane amount, Karlsson has been the best option I’ve seen. His cap hit is reasonable, his 2-way play is a strength, he’s signed for a good term and he transports the puck well. All of that plus he won’t cost a ton because not many teams can afford adding that type of salary and term.

He’s not as ‘sexy’ as Scheifele or Miller but in terms of actual team needs, he fits perfectly. Bring him in, play him with Panarin and he’ll score 60-70 points and be a 2-way monster.

I hope Gallant and the org recognize the positive impact playing with Kreider and Zibanejad is having on Lafreniere. Please just give him a shot to stick there, through the ups and downs. This team needs more offense at ES out of their top lines, addressing this has to be a priority for the team to make some noise - and Lafreniere clicking there would be the cheapest, most beneficial way to solve that problem.

It's not demoted it's being a key part to the team. Playing the matchup role and driving his line offensively.

True Story:

Gallant has never made it past year 3 for any team he's coached

Also true story: Every player that has ever played for the guy loved him and he brings out the best in most of his players. Also success follows him whevever he goes.

We all know when he was hired that he has his favorites and makes some strange lineup decisions, but give me literally one coach that never does this?

He's getting the benefit of the doubt as long as we're winning. 5v5 is poor but Special Teams have been good. His personnel decisions have been bad.

I honestly don't know what our system is though. I don't know what our identity is. That is something that comes down to Gallant. This teams even strength play is frustrating

I'm not even sure the system is on Gallant. He had discussions with Drury over the summer and they concluded the "Quinn system" was the way to go for whatever reason(s). Gallant clearly knows his stuff.

Even so this approach of leaning on the PP and goaltending to scrape wins is a bit grating and at odds with a team that is setting itself up for contention. We should know more after seeing the next few moves Drury makes. There has to be a plan one would think and this approach is temporary.

I never said the 5v5 play is flawless. But is that all on the coach? And Mckegg, yeah I cant stand him. But you act like every coach is perfect.

Nope. You are just a drama queen.

Yeah the players love him so much but he’s won zero championships, only 2 playoff series (all in same year) and he’s got a shelf life of 2 and half years everywhere he coaches.

real successful

Every coach isn’t perfect, but all the loser ones make the same exact moves as he does.
