I don't mind differing opinion, I actually enjoy it.

but I would venture a guess, most of those are very young. Have little to no real world job experience.
Agreed. I know it’s frowned upon to bring up the “but you’ve never played the game” argument, but the same thing applies here, only the game is life. That sounds ridiculously cheesy, but it’s true.

Ten years ago, I was still a young guy with an engineering degree. I specifically remember balking at a proposal that was being put together in my organization that looked really heavy on PM hours from my perspective. Why don’t we spend that money on another smart guy like me that’s going to do some real work?

Fast forward to today and I’m a PMP who hasn’t run a test or conducted a technical analysis in years. I’m much more valuable to my organization in this capacity. You need doers, but you absolutely need people to focus effort, inspire, and keep things on track.

The guys that are the best at this have what is known as referent power. Kreider seems like that kind of leader. He brings value above and being his physical “doing” skills without a doubt and that’s why I hope he is named captain.

You are right.

I enjoy differences of opinion especially if they are educated. When they are clearly not, all they do is take up space in this thread.

Not everyone agrees with me and that is fine. I just want to dice with people who understand the game.

.... he says, as he passively aggressively puts down anyone who disagrees with him.

Why do you need to skate fast? This isn't a video game. You can be slow and a good player and you can be fast and a bad player.

Great post!

My favorite is when a team with a speed giant supposedly “is looking for someone that can keep up with X”. It’s been a thing since Vancouver got Mogilny, Courtnall and co to “keep up with Bure” and surely before that too.

How often is a goal scored due to TWO players raising down the ice so fast that nobody can keep up? In reality we are probably talking about someone elite being able to be a couple of feet a head of the replacement level on a scoring line.

Jamie Benn is tailor made for a fast center, not Andreas A...

Pardon the intrusion. Just wanted to say that the Rangers are my favourite team outside of the Blues, and I am rooting for you! I hope you make the playoffs, and have a great draft! Would love to see a Blues-Rangers SCF one day! Anyway, carry on. I better get going before I get discovered here. :) Good luck!!!

Ok so this is what we are looking at going into the off season (Note: * Means RFA / Lines aren't set and players and move up and down):

Kreider - Zbad - Buch
Panarin - Strome* - Kakko
Lemieux* - Chytil - Gauthier
XXXX - Howden - XXXX
XXXX

Lindgren - Fox
Smith - ADA*
Staal - Trouba
XXXX

Shesh
Georgiev*
Lundqvist

Total cap hit less RFA projections: $67MM ($7.5MM of which is dead cap space)

My projected cap ceiling: $84MM ($17MM I cap space)

RFAs:
  • ADA: 5 years $6.5MM AAV
  • Strome: 2 years $4.5MM AAV
  • Lemieux: 2 years $1.5MM AAV
  • Georgiev: 2 years $2MM AAV
Remaining cap space after RFA: $2.5MM (19 man roster with 3 goalies)

Realistic prospects that could make the team (cheap ELCs):
  • Kravstov
  • Lundkvist
  • Rykov
  • Hajek
  • DiGuissepe*
Let's say for the remaining 4 spots they are filled with ELC or cheap vets, average of $1MM/player. Remaining cap space to operate the season is -$1.5MM.

The Rangers would still need to buyout or somehow trade one of Staal, Lundqvist or Smith. Possibly more, otherwise your basically going into next season with the same roster, which isn't the worst thing when the team is so young and the less experienced players should continue to progress (and wouldnt be able to retain Fast).

The other thing is that the Rangers moves at the TDL werent debilitating.

If Hank retires or even goes elsewhere at half price then there’s plenty of cap space

I also think Smith can be moved in his last year

Georgiev needs a contract as well...

Got to say that the forward plan (no pun intended - including how defensemen core is impacted as well) is a lot more clearer after the TDL. I was against Kreider’s extension but him staying and slotting into one of top-6 spots for the next four years is something we don’t need to guess anymore.

Similarly, trading Keane (and to some degree Skjei and his cap hit) has almost fully eliminated uncertainty about keeping or moving ADA, at least in the next few years.

Finally, not moving Georgiev, spending on Kreider and recent comments from Lundqvist and the FO about his future on top of how he’s been (not) utilized in the 3-goalie system is all but guarantee that he won’t be with the Rangers going into next season. Sad but life doesn’t stop for anyone.

I’m not moving K’Andre Miller. Kid could be the next Seth Jones, or he can very well turn into a bust, but I trust the front office and the evaluators big time. Their defense next year will only get better. So many high upside guys on the backend that all can be top-4.

Be nice if K’Andre , had a bit of a mean streak in him . I don’t care if he doesn’t become an offensive dynamo . If he could become a solid puck mover , minute eater shutdown guy who hits and plays a complimentary game to our RH Shot shrimps I’d be overjoyed . Jaybo never became the scorer guys envisioned but his impact on the game was felt everywhere he played . Always on the ice , always involved in all 3 zones . If he becomes a jaybo , Hedman , Jones light type we struck gold .
