Personally, I think they’re where they’ve been for a while. 60/40 65/35 has been fairly consistent from what I’ve heard for a while

.
Yeah you were right. I guess my only question now does Kreider change his outlook early tomorrow when he knows he only has a few hours left as a Ranger?

Jost is slow? Everything I've seen and read is he's quick/good skater and has a great motor

Agreed. Host’s problem isn’t speed - it’s whether he can think the game at the same speed, or has the hands to match the feet.

Personally, I think a move to LW could do him some good. Or finding an environment where he can spell a higher end player — like Strome.

Lets not forget that an extra 1st round pick in 2021 maybe more valuable then a 2020 1st round pick due to the expansion draft.

We don't really have anyone who would be on the trading block next year that would fetch a 1st. But having that extra 1st to possibly trade to Seattle to ensure they don't take any of our unprotected players we want to keep or force them to take a bad contract could absolutely be better then a 2020 pick.

Though it maybe tough to handle for some since it would involve patience and foresight

Not much has changed on the last 24 hours, other than it going mainstream.

Dallas is still a legit partner and one I suspect that Rangers might prefer in the right scenario.

Avs in. Boston probably a long shot at this time.

Non-Kreider teams include Carolina. Calgary and Toronto don’t look like deadline partners right now, but could be long-term teams to remember.
Do you hear names? If you can't say, it's understandable. I'd assume the usual suspects in Toronto with Nylander and Kapanen. Calgary has been eyeing us from across the dancefloor for years and this is the most intriguing off season scenario for me. My irrational fan side says Johnny Hockey is available. But there is probably a more obvious name like Bennett.

To some extent, both sides are playing a game of chicken. The question is whether someone can blink. I’d give the odds of blinking 40 percent.

Bur I think the ball is more or less in Kreider’s court.

I'm looking up these guys' faces because I have no idea, and uh

Martin Kaut or Pavel Buchnevich put through one of those app filters?

Absolutely. Definitely a game of chicken

well, this draft if supposedly phenomenal so the Rangers could draft another solid prospect which wouldn’t have to be protected.

The unprotected player could be Howden.

I see your point though

Jost being slow was never something you heard until late in his 2nd season when people started looking for reasons as to why he wasn't taking a step forward. He's quick, has a good motor, and a nice tool set at his disposal. It's going to come down to whether or not he learns to process the game at an NHL pace. If he does, there's some boom potential there. If he doesn't, then he's probably still good enough to carve out a career as a decent 3rd line player.

The Avalanche aren't exactly great when it comes to easing in players who aren't high-end talents.

Kaut and a 1st is essentially Chytil and a 1st for a rental for 20+ games. I'd do it. Kaut should be a top-six scoring wing. Good puck skills and wheels. Heady two-way guy, too.
Jost, Kaut and a 1st for Kreider.

I feel like Jost could turn it around / similar to a Zibs
So we are basically getting Zibanejad, Chytil and a first for Kreider? I'd do it. :sarcasm:

Jost is a great skater so not sure where that came from. He is really creative with puck as well. Something is missing there however. I’m not sure what. I saw him a lot at UND. Consistently one of the best players on the ice. It hasn’t translated yet.

Scares me a bit of Jost and a 1st is the return for Kreider.

Colorado has come in 2nd place A LOT in deals. Sakic is still as asset stingy (and wise) as he's been. I doubt he'll go bananas over Kreider unless there's a belief of an extension. I just don't see it.

The Panarin signing set this in motion. It seems like Kreider's play, the emergence of Igor, and the overall play gave them enough pause to try for a team friendly contract.

I wasn't for Panarin. Zero complaints obviously about his first year, I still have concerns long term but he's our guy and that's in the past. But this is the reality, why I was against it back then and why I was on board since then with moving Kreider.

You need balance through your lineup. You need strength in the middle if you load up at any one position. Two left wings at roughly $20m is not wise. Wings develop faster, are available more often, and cheaper to trade for. Defense is expensive and a long time cooking. Centers are rarely available. This is the correct gamble. The committee of wings picks up the slack and hope the young guys take a step. Use the cap space to fix the glaring issue at LD. Keep your eyes peeled for a timely wing trade and ramp up your efforts in 16 months when the cap relief is here.

Kreider’s money was given to Panarin and that was beyond smart.

I’m shocked they were willing to give as much as they were to Kreider but I think there is an emotional attachment that ups his value in their eyes.

There are some bigger names out there, just not sure if they are deadline deals.

Dallas - Robertson would be a player the Rangers would push for.

Colorado - Jost is still part of that mix.

St. Louis - don’t have a good handle on names. But there is chatter they’d pay a premium to defend.

I'm looking at the players that might potentially be left unprotected and I'm not sacrificing a first for any of them.

I don't foresee a scenario in which we would need to pay Seattle a 1st round pick for anything. We didn't make any deals last time and we are in a good spot with our protections. There's still a lot that can change between now and then, though.

If anything, the pick would be valuable as currency to get a player that another team is worried about losing (assuming we have an open slot), but we could use a 2020 pick for that as well. I'm sure some teams will be wheeling and dealing at the draft with the expansion draft in mind. We've already seen the Rangers trade Keane for Gauthier, whom Carolina would have had to protect.

From a pure value standpoint, the 2020 pick is worth more than a 2021 pick, simply because the player chosen will be 1 year closer to contributing (in theory).

40% seems high at this stage of the game.

Do you have a link with a list of names? I feel like i'm good with numbers but I have no idea who everyone's eleventh best eligible player is or whatever. I do think a lot of VGK's success came from the absolutely hilarious Florida Panthers move, which would be talked about nonstop if it was like a Canadian team or us
