For everybody debating about this. Let’s pray this debate is real in a few months b/c it will be a great problem to have.

Right now, our odds aren’t even close to having this debate

#23OA + #75OA for Kasperi Kapanen.

Pass. We already have Buchnevich and Kakko as Top 6 RWs, and hopefully Kravtsov contending for 3RW. Kapanen's stats are inflated from playing in the Leafs Top 6, and he still scored just 4 goals since December.

I'll believe Kravtsov is a top-9 forward when I see it. Or Kakko as a top-6 forward too for that matter. Chytil has played two NHL seasons and he's not even established himself as a top-6 forward yet. By the time Kravtsov is there, Kapanen will be an RFA. If somehow both of those players manage to achieve that within the near future, the worst-case scenario is playing Kapanen at LW (where we also have a hole to fill).

Kapanen is young, fast, relatively cheap, and can score 5v5. He checks all the boxes, but I understand if people would rather hold onto the extra 1st.

Kakko is still better suited for 3RW next season. Kravstov, if he makes the jump, could be fine at 3LW next season. Expecting any more from either next season is a push. I'd do it for 23 and 75. That's a low first and a mid third for a young, fast player with some pedigree who can mentor Kakko. Who inflated Kasperi's numbers with the Marlies and in the Liiga? I doubt we'd get as good a player at 23OA.

I think you keep the 1st .... Gotta think Kakko improves .... Buch has chemistry w Zib,Kreider so let him play w them again .... I’d resign Fast if the price is right and hope Gautier who’s still young steals ice time

Kapanen did not play in the Leafs top six other then when Marner and Tavares were injured really. He played mostly with Kerfoot, Engvall, and Spezza.

Hmm, appears so. That'd explain the production drop from last season.

I'd do a 2nd & 3rd for him but a 1st is just too rich. Especially after we signed that awful Kreider contract, and thus are limited in cap space. And are likely to sign Strome to something similarly absurd

I'd be very interested in Kapanen. I'd just hope that later first could be subbed for another piece. The Rangers seem to have a glut of players that are NHL ready or soon to be NHL ready

youre right. I fixed it.

What impact do people think we can necessarily count on 23OA to make

We drafted Miller at 22 and Lundkvist at 28, and many people believe both can be future Top 4 Dmen. A guy like Jan Mysak could definitely be available at 23 this year, and he produced at a higher rate in the Czech league during his draft season than Filip Chytil did. 9 pts in 26 games for Mysak (and 25 in 22 OHL games) compared to 8 pts in 38 games for Chytil. And he's on the younger side of the draft with a June birthday

thats a very loaded question, I mean you can find a Star or a dud at literally any pick

drafting top 5 doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a superstar, but with more first round picks the chance of drafting a star increases

What are the odds you end up with as good as or better a player than Kapanen?

well that depends on what type of player you see Kapanen as, however I don't see why we have to trade a first round pick at all, we have an excess of d prospects that Toronto would be looking at

I would offer a 2021 2nd, 2020 3rd, and rykov or hajek

if they don't take it im ok with moving on

Your periodic reminder that even well-scouted 1st round draft picks still end up being Anderssons, Brendls, Montoyas, Sanguinettis, McIlraths, Jessimans… we know who Kapanen is, and have a pretty good idea what he could be.
