Grubauer is currently listed as "day to day" with testing upcoming during the week. For all we know he may only miss a few games right now. COL definitely does not need to consider a goalie until they get more clarity there.
"We're hoping it's an injury where we can get him back skating and playing here in the next couple weeks, but it's weeks, not days," Bednar said. "I'm not sure what happened, he felt it, pain in the lower body and it got worse and worse. So he's got whatever you call it, oblique strain."

Hank to Colorado makes the most sense. Retain half, get back a 3rd this year and a 2nd next year. That 2nd becomes a 3rd if he doesn't play 5 games in the NHL next year (basically if he retires, the Rangers get (2) 3rd's)

Keep it simple

Not only would this be great for NYR, but it could be great for Hank and Colorado too.

Plus we get a team to root for in the playoffs.

When they are listed as out indefinitely that usually means that are at least week to week and need that further testing to get a more clear picture.

The one thing I think about with the Goalie Situation is, who is more likely to become frustrated over the next 1-2 years? Meaning, of Georgiev and Henrik. Because the bottom line is Igor is going to be playing 50+ games per year. Is Georgiev, a 24 year old trying to reach his ceiling of full potential, going to be ok as a backup heading towards the prime of his career? Or will he be frustrated, demand a trade, and then we are getting potentially less than we would right now because Georgiev’s body of work is as a backup and that is what he is seen as. Right now, while Quinn has named Igor the #1, Georgiev has still shared #1 duty this year and in the moment may be viewed as a potential #1. Right now, Georgiev has been frustrated as it stands already.

Couple that with thinking you would get more in return for the younger Georgiev. Maybe the better trade is moving Georgiev with the better value return, having Hank backup for next year, and then go from there.

I don't see why option C isn't more attractive where the Rangers trade Hank at this deadline and then look in the off-season for a good spot for Georgiev. Shesty is the starter next year and go find a good, veteran 1B who can play 30 games. Maybe someone like Greiss or Talbot

It's not likely, but the "IT CAN NEVER HAPPEN" in regards to trading and then signing Kreider is getting pretty dumb.
I mean, has this ever happened? Kreider is a smart dude and kind of odd, maybe he’d be cool with doing the team a solid, but I feel like it’s a bigger solid than people realize. You’re asking him to temporarily move, fit in with a new team with new people, and then compete during the grind of the playoffs (which he won’t get paid for,) just to get the team a draft pick.

Conflicting info then because there is also this "G Philipp Grubauer: A "lower-body" injury without definitive return timeline. Described as "day-to-day" and "could miss some time.'"

Sure you're not referring to Calvert who was described out for "weeks, not days"?

Many moons ago Keith Tkachuk did.

Let's get this out there now so we avoid the 20/20 hindsite GMs, which do you prefer with the Henke situation:

Option A: maintain the three goalie rotation based on the chance that in the offseason you may be able to agree to a contract termination so Henke can play 20-21 in Sweden and retire a lifelong ranger so NYR has no retained salary on henke nor any buyout pentalties but risk this situation spilling through the offseason and the inevitable Gorton overplayed his hand criticisms

Option B: attempt to trade Henke now while retaining half his salary and keeping Igor and Alex

Oh, come on about making him play in a playoff run.

It doesn't happen very often but it has happened, for sure. Going back as far as I can remember:
Rucinsky (NYR)
Weight (STL)
Tkachuk (STL)
Vermette (ARI)
Michalik (ARI)
Jokinen (CGY)
Plekanec (MTL)
Moulson (BUF)
Del Zotto (ANA)

I'm sure I'm missing some as well. But that's like 1 every 2 years or so. Again, not likely.

That’a actually more common than I thought. I’m just saying we don’t know if he wants to do that. The NHL playoffs are long and rough, and his only compensation for that is chance to win a Cup. Maybe that’s enough for him, maybe not. He’s not in the twilight of his career, it’s possible he’d rather be doing other things during a longer offseason.

Yep, that quote was from the Grubauer article but about Calvert. My bad.

Interesting conditions on that trade. If he re-signed with the Thrashers, the Blues would have got an extra 1st, which ended up being #3OA the following year.

Yup! Was about to post this. The Thrashers ended up getting a 4th when St. Louis re-acquired his rights and then resigned.

So essentially they got Glen Metropolit, 2007 #1 and #3 (they the traded these 2 picks to move up and pick Ian Cole at #18) and 2008 #2 (Philip McRae) with a resigned Tkachuk for a 4th lol.

it also allows the Rangers to keep both Georgiez and Shesty, gives Hank a shot to win with a good young team as well. They save significant amount this year and next. It's a win all around IF he would waive. For me the return is fine. Next year he would probably be a 1B for them

good point. We don’t have to rush Georgiev out the door. A few more picks and Hank off the bench. Ok!!
