I'd rather wait out the Staal and Smith contracts than lose assets trying to move them out. If I'm an NHL team Staal at half is still a negative value asset. Claesson was marginally better and wasnt able to get a league minimum deal.

Posted this in the Strome thread and actually kinda meant to post it here. Mods can delete that post if they feel so inclined.

Maybe this is an odd mentality, but I believe there is something to be said for chemistry. I think that we have found 3 pairs that work on the forward lines. Zbad and Krieder, Stome and Panarin and Chytil and Howden. I think Howden has looked better on the wing and him and chytil have played well together. I'm a cautious person so my thinking is a bit more on the side of being worried about breaking these seemingly strong pairs. We just need to find the final piece for each line. I think Kakko with Zbad and Krieder would work and Lemiuex could be good with Strome and Panarin. Of course, who really knows, but the one that is out of place feels like Buchnevich. I dont know. I guess we will know more in 3 weeks.

This team is a seller. My issue though is that at some point you have to commit to keep some guys. Kreider I feel is outside our age group but Strome and DeAngelo fit if their contract asks are reasonable. Fast, unless he is looking to get paid heavily should stay as he would likely only get a 3rd rounder in a trade. It sounds like Lundqvist isnt going anywhere so it would be best for us and Georgiev to move him. So in the end we could end up trading all those guys and if we do we are gonna have to wait another year for playoffs.
Something I mentioned last year during the draft was that our forward depth wasnt very good, we seem to have more defensemen than we need and not enough forwards to backfill any trades we make this year.

Agreed Kreider is just outside the window.

Strome is a "fit if the contract is right cause his age is ok."

DeAngelo I think is "key component unless, as a PMD, you can parlay him into a young top line forward of equal skill and value." I'd pay DeAngelo a big contract for sure and look to move Skjei, especially if as Edge says Carolina is asking about Skjei.

Well they have Gauthier, Kuokkanen, who are probably pretty close to pushing for spots. Their entry levels ends summer of 2021, I do not know enough about Geekie except to say his entry level ends that year too.

Just a quick comment on this. I doubt Justin Williams is back next year, and from the sounds of it, Haula likely won't be back either (both are UFAs). That frees up at least 1 slot, maybe 2 next year on the forward front. On D, both Edmundson and TVR are UFAs and very likely gone. Fleury is an RFA as well. I suspect they'll need to fill 1 or 2 spots on D next season as well.

Then the following season, Dzingel, Martinook and McGinn are all UFAs and that's when the expansion draft is as well so it's likely a couple more slots open up at forward. I think if Gauthier, Kuokkanen, Geekie, etc.. all show they are NHL worthy, there will be spots for them. Maybe not next year, but the following.

I do think the Canes would move some of their prospects though. They had 12 picks in this last draft and picked up Bokk in the Faulk deal. They also have 2 1sts (Car and Tor), 2 2nds (Car and NYR) and 2 3rds (Car and Buf) in this coming draft and I think 9 picks total.

Fox is incredible. But he's not DeAngelo dynamic. Fox will be an extremely good two-way defender for a long time, you can see it in the way he thinks the game. Good one on one, great patience, rarely makes a bad outlet pass or gets beat off the rush.

DeAngelo cannot be made expendable by either Lundkvist or Fox. We have no one else like him and we would not be smart to let Tony go.
I feel like expendable is the wrong word. DeAngelo will be an asset as long as he's in a Ranger's uni. If we are in a position to trade him it will be to improve the roster, not to cut ties just because there may be another player coming in the pipeline. One asset doesnt necessarily make the other expendable, especially considering DeAngelo's specialized skillset. There are too many moving pieces and factors to think about it so one-dimensionally.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the shit out his perfomance here. IF he gets moved it will be to make a clear improvement to the rostsr at his or some other position.

Thanks for the info, that is kind of what I was getting at. You guys have a lot of good stuff I think the Rangers would be interested in, not sure if the Canes feel that way about any stuff the Rangers have,

I'd guess you already have a good idea, in my mind, Kreider, Fast, as pending UFA rentals, Strome pending RFA. Lias Andersson, Then I guess they'd think about Skjei, Buchnevich.

"2 1sts (Car and Tor), 2 2nds (Car and NYR) and 2 3rds (Car and Buf)" Gauthier, Kuokkanen, Fleury maybe even Geekie (who I have not really read about yet) In my opinion should all be stuff the Rangers should be interested in.

Edit: I forgot Georgiev.

The Flames are supposedly hunting hard for a RH shot that isn't a rental. Wonder if they'd ask about Strome.

I wonder what they have to offer though besides Hanifin, Tkachuk and Johnny. We can be patient with Strome. Not sure if it’s worth it to ship him for a 1st at this point.

Best would be if Gorts could get a kid that really fits what we are trying to do and maybe a bit of a plus. Like say a Gauthier if we really like him.

In our rush to monetize every asset, please remember that we still have to ice a team and management appears to want to get back to the playoffs sooner rather than later.

Strome is an RFA who can still be traded anywhere this summer or up to next years deadline. There’s no rush.

A player like Skeji probably has to be moved during the summer.

Georgiev could go now or later (or never)

Aside from Kreider, the one guy I think could be moved sooner than later is Buchnevich. I just get the feeling that the Rangers have soured on him and if there is a buyer willing to pay a decent price, I’m listening.

I like Carolina and Minny as possible Strome locations, as teams that can offer more.

Minny really need a center. For the coming handful of years, but they can’t be offering much in terms of futures. Matt Dumba can log a lot of minutes and chip in offensively. Minny can get some futures for him but not that center. Deal Strome to Minny for Dumba and then deal Dumba to one of the teams looking for a RD. Dumba would bring back a good return. 25 y/o. Three more years on an OK contract. Someone would give up something good for him.

Carolina got centers that can shift to the wing and a hard time finding that scoring forward. Does Strome fit their bill? Maybe. If they find their guy they will pay a lot for him. Gorton did that trade with Tampa were he was willing to do business. Could see a similar move with Carolina. Like either Strome/Kreider AND Geo going there.

Would the Rangers be interested in Juuso Valimaki of the Flames? He suffered a torn ACL last summer. A deal involving Andersson for Valimaki could work. Brooks had written last February about the Rangers could be interested in Valimaki and Mangiapane.

Id be ok trading DeAngelo for Roslovic in Winnipeg if both sides were able to work out contracts.
