I will say that the last two games are clear evidence that when the forwards play within the defensive structure, our D corps looks pretty phenomenal. And pretty much all the goals that were scored against the team in the past few games were the fault of our forward units, not our D. I think we need to chill a bit on scapegoating anyone on the D. Because it's proof that if they're traded to a team that plays more consistent defense as a team, they would thrive.

Do the Rangers have something going with the Flyers?

Lehigh Valley Phantoms photographer twitter account.

The Rangers scouted the Flyers AHL team 2x in the last few days.

Morgan Frost played in those games.

The Flyers also have Joel Farabee.

The Flyers need a righty D. They bring home local Tony D.

How are the Rangers replacing Kreider's speed? Farabee.

The Rangers have Nils Lundkivist to replace DeAngelo.

I always hold my tongue about this idea because its within the division, but Deangelo to the flyers for Frost + 1st and another add would be great. Tony grew up a Flyers fan and he fills a hole for them

Yeah, you have to get a top line or future top line player, or at the very, very least, a package including a high end young second line player, but you also have to explore moving DeAngelo if you can in fact get that return.

Yes, we bitch about not ever having a legit top pair defenseman.

But you know what else we bitch about? Not having legit scoring first line forwards, especially centers.

And we have a metric ton of defensemen in the pipeline right now.

If you can get a future #1 center for DeAngelo.... yes please.

You trade for the best package/return, regardless of who offers it. Ottawa traded Hoffman to San Jose instead of to a team in the division. San Jose turned around and traded him to Florida

Or we can just do what I and some others have been proposing. Some moves could happen now others in the offseason.

  • Trade Skjei.
  • Buy out Staal
  • Try both Fox and ADA on the left this season.
  • Bring up Keane and see what he can do, towards the end of this season.
  • Resign ADA 5x$6.5AAV.

If we are trading DeAngelo to them, we better be getting back both Farabee and Frost.

When Fox and ADA play together they have the highest corsi of any defensive pair in the NHL that's played over 50 minutes (by more than 4 points) and they've done it while limiting the opponent's offense to similar levels as top pairs for some of the best NHL teams like Carlson - Orlov, Krug - McAvoy, Letang - DuMoulin, and Hamilton - Slavin.

So if the objective is to have a good defense, I don't see what the issue with keeping Fox and ADA would be.

Jordan Greenway is a kid I am becoming increasingly intrigued with. He hasn’t been able to get ice time for Minnesota in any bigger role and his name is mentioned frequently as a possible trade chip. Definitely seem to be some smoke to that fire.

I definitely think he tics so many boxes. Perfect age to buy on a kid like him. 6’6, they take time to develop. Many kids seem to really just toughen up on their second team. Everyone know that you get a first chance and a second chance as a good talented young player. But after that you have to start very very deep down the latter and competition is just tough everywhere. You need to take that second chance, throw illusions out the window and just get it done. Boyle was a perfect example of this.

I also think that he would be a really good fit on the ice. He definitely has some offensive gifts. Kind of like Hayes in how he can build up good speed and glide with his wide stride covering the puck finding passing lanes. He is good in front of the net. Also, with the really really puck skilled and fast Ds we are collecting — it opens up our roster to carry guys like him in the lineup. I just like his hockey IQ. Think he would thrive in our group and grow a ton with it.

The kid is also fairly tough. He isn’t as used to tossing them as kids from north of the border, but he is picking up on it. Got a lot of potential there.

I also like him from a performance/cap hit perspective. He won’t come in and put up decent numbers while showing a ton of flash that you have to pay for. But he should steadily get better for many years if he takes care of himself.

Also think Staal/Kouivo is about as bad fits that you can find at center for a 6’6 winger...

He is definitely rising on my Replacement of Kreider list.

Where has his name been mentioned as a trade chip? I would be interested too.

Cam York and Bobby Brink for Zac Jones?

It’s nothing super tangible, but I’ve seen his name like a handful of times. Could be that it’s just people around the team that are speculating, but if nothing else the “notion” is at least that he is quiet getting it to work there.

A 3rd pairing defenseman who plays both on the pp and pk is a lot different from one who doesn't. We're talking the difference between 12 minutes a game and closer to 18.

Matchups matter, sure, but benches can be shortened in a pinch.

Fox and Trouba will be playing both pp and pk from the right in a year. Ada is a staple on the first pp unit and will get many minutes that way.

Each team usually needs two all situations defenders that play both the pp and pk. It just happens that with us that will be both right handers.

*Until such a time as someone like Rykov or Miller on the left forces their way onto the powerplay, in which case a team can still feasibly have three all situations dmen. It just means one poor guy will get stuck not seeing much time in typical special teams situations. (Not uncommon for a #6)

A d-man who gets regular ice on both the penalty kill and power play is a 20+ minute player. If he's got an offensive game and you trust him enough for his defending to play him on the PK--he's arguably a first pairing player. Tony was averaging around 19 minutes the last I looked. He's our main D on the power play and his defense has improved somewhat but defense is still the thing keeping him from becoming a 20+ minute guy. The defense thing as well is in matchups against other teams better players that their teams will try to play as much as possible and other situational stuff like last minute protect a lead situations. Tony's game has improved but he's also getting just about the max minutes that can be doled out for a guy you don't put in those harder defensive situations.

I would do unspeakable things if we were able to turn ADA into Farabee or Glass.

Tony is the asset I am most excited about moving this year. The definition of selling high. Dealing from a position of strength to fill a weakness.

The Rangers MUST move DeAngelo for a top flight winger of the same age or younger.

Philly isn’t mentioned as a candidate in the Kreider talks because of their LW depth. But I think that AV is pretty keen on a Kreider reunion. Wouldn’t rule them out in the Kreider talks. Slide Giroux over to center.

Is a former non-top 1st round pick with a so-so start to their pro career really worth that much?
