If the unthinkable happens and have waives what team makes sense at 50 off?

Carolina ?

They might be a good fit, but we'd have to take Reimer back (who we would bury and then buy out).

If Henrik plans to retire after this year, then that increases the possibilities, but I have a hard time seeing him accept a trade just so he can play half a year somewhere else. I think if he accepts a trade, it's because he wants to keep playing beyond this year.

You're going to upset a lot of people if you claim Georgiev is better than Lundqvist. Just saying
It’s not even a question right now. Georgie is consistently better. He’s smarter with the puck and stoppages. He’s just safer back there. Hanks been pressing this season when he gets the opportunity to play bc he wants to show he still got it. That part of it is kinda a snowball effect. But yes Georgiev is better than Lundqvist more often, and Georgie just played lights out after the isles twice. It doesn’t even have to be about whether or not Georgie is quote on quote better than hank

Anyone saying anything else has homer glasses on

The amount of vitriol around here for a guy that's arguably the greatest Ranger to ever put on the sweater is truly remarkable. The guy has kept his chin up, been a great teammate/mentor, accepted his role for the betterment of the team as it's redefining itself, and said nothing but great things about the organization his entire career. And people like you **** on him because of his salary and he's not what he was at 28 when he's 37. It's really disappointing. And it's not just you.

Eli Manning syndrome. It might dawn on some that fans love the team and aren’t any less of a fan b/c they don’t fully support aging players when only a contract allows them to hold a younger team hostage.

Not at all addressing the point that I was making. Thanks for playing, though.

I like Henrik just as much as the next guy, but he isn’t coming over to my house for Christmas, not putting food on my table, and he doesn’t call to check in on me when I’m sick. He couldn’t pick me out of a lineup for a million dollars.
THANK YOU. I'm a massive Giants fan, and does wanting a young QB in Daniel Jones to start over him make me a hater of Eli? So many Rangers fans rip the guys who would give Henrik the ultimatum of either sitting in the press box or asking him for the trade. I'm sick of being the bad guy because I'm salivating at the idea of a Georgiev-Shesterkin tandem for the next five years, easily.

Shesterkin tonight and Georgiev on Tuesday. The Rangers don't play again until January 31. Lundqvist's last start was on January 11. If he plays one of the two Detroit games on 1/31 & 2/2, one start in three weeks. I like the Rangers strategy. They are ****ing with Henrik's mind.

Talk to Glen Sather about that. He's the one who gave him the contract, not Henriks fault
Nobody is saying it’s Henrik’s fault but at the same time he needs to realize his time as the top dog is over. We have two young goalies who are going to get the bulk of the time now as they should. We know Hank is competitive and he wants to play so going to a contender for a year shouldn’t be a problem

Seems like nobody is even taking into account that Shesterskin idolizes Hank and might get something and benefit from having Hank there to support him as he gets comfortable, rather than knowing he’s the reason his idol got forced out of his organization.

Bronx Tale. Mickey Mantle.

Henrik Lundqvist don't care about you so why should you care about him? Nobody cares.

I know people will freak out anyway, but don't be surprised if Shesterkin gets sent back down in the next few days. he likely won't dress tuesday and the rangers aren't playing again till the 31st...the AHL allstar game is the 27th...so I expect him to be sent back down during the week so he can start against Bridgeport on Friday and then play in the allstar game on Monday

Exactly how I think it will get played out but maybe it will be a conditioning assignment so that Shesterkin gets paid his NHL salary while there.

on topic, so it’s the fans fault for Hank not waiving his NTC and opting to sit among 3 goalies? No different than Eli Manning. It’s a rebuild, move on

He earned his contract and his NTC. He can do what he wants. I'm not going to blame the guy for not wanting to uproot his whole family or move away from them for a year and a half.

pure speculation

not going to blame the fans for ridiculing this 3 goalie scene being it’s likely Hank will be bought out and move his family anyway. And if Hank is so concerned about uprooting his family, maybe he can retire and live off the $100 million he’s earned.

Not going to blame the fans either, they can be upset all they want but they come across very silly. Welcome to the real world where contracts mean something.

Actually the real world dismisses people from business where the ROI isn’t there. This is sports and the freedom of speech isn’t as silly as watching an old goalie sit, watch and clearly not take a hint. Then again, those defending the action due to past performances might be as silly as those defending Eli Manning.

I don't think anyone other than a few very outspoken bloggers or posters hate him. It's a performance based business and to paraphrase James Brown it's a cap, cap, cap world. If he has no more place on the team, then something needs to be done.

Once again, this isn't the first time a HOFer has lost a step or two in the twilight of their careers and had to continue somewhere else. Broduer, Bobby Hull, Trottier, Lafleur, Jagr all the way to guys like Iginla, Tzachuk, Gartner. Leetch was traded on his birthday. Maple Leafs moved away from Sundin. Canucks from Naslund. It happens.

The Rangers aren't violating any NATO doctrine or being terrible humans if they trade or buy him out. It's what's best for the team longterm. Maybe if this franchise didn't always try to "do the right thing" or succumb to some imaginary 'New York standard" they'd have two more Cups.
