So blank check ufa. Super smart planning. Come on, you're better than this. You don't pay a premium for that situation which is what he will cost...
Not a blank check. But you celebrate that you found a higher end centre who has chemistry with Panarin and is defensively responsible too. That's a success. Better to pay up for the outcome you wanted.

I was more nervous about them trying to trade Buch one for one, for a center who's just...a much worse player than Buch, who happens to play center.

Maybe getting the best current-day value they could for Strome, even in a different position, will make them less likely to do this. For whatever reason it always looked like they wanted to ship both of those guys out of here. Buch should get a big futures return, or he should be part of the stupid Eichel/whoever else it could be extravaganza

Pieces falling into place. Strome and a 2nd for Giordano and Blackwell. And then Buch, Chytil, Jones, 1st for Eichel.

Panarin-Eichel-Kakko
Laf-Zib-Kravtsov
Kreider-Goodrow-Gauthier
Barron-Rooney-Blackwell

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Giordano-Lundkvist

Sign me up for that lineup. Maybe move around the bottom 6 a bit, but it looks solid to me.

Now do the part where Eichel is injured and will likely miss most of the season if/when he has surgery.... Or the part where you're gambling with an injured player and you have no way to predict how he will recover or if he'll even be able to play to his former potential....

Still sound like a good idea? Lose assets for a question mark with a huge cap hit?

Why not just re-sign Mika and spend some of our assets seeking to acquire a quality 2C option?

Also found our solution for the 4th line. He's got a ton of energy, great character guy, tenacious as a pit bull...

I think some of you over estimate the whole good thing cup run thing. Some guy just want money, and with the cap being flat and escrow some guys just want to get paid. How many teams have a better chance to win right now than colorado, yet their captain may be walking as a USA over money. And you'd be foolish to pretend we would be the only team bidding.

I have no problem getting the player, but that's a different argument than the one I originally made mocking people who want to pay a premium for Larkin but the same ones who want to wait for barkov to maybe be a ufa

You have 2 years to get inside that players head. He would be going from that dumpster fire to playing with the most talented group in his career. He has a much better chance in his prime to make the cup here than playin in detriot. Also, Coloroda has their star players and cant do anything in the playoffs. I dont see how they wouldnt do everything they can to hold onto Mckinnon and Makar. Theyre money will dry up as soon as their contracts are up. It also would not be a bidding war, hes a team captain, and after the 1st season you have him, you have an entire season to resign him.

If you have the assets and the need for a position and player, im the type that you should go out and get that player. I believe Larkin would do really well with this group, allows him to slot into #1 center, with the uncertainty with Zibs and not having anyone behind him, including chytl. I love Chytl but he hasnt shown he can play center yet. Waiting for Barkov is like trading for a prospect,.. you are hoping that he comes free and youre hoping he can be youre top center in 3+ years. Its all Magic beans... Go out and get the guy you want.

I think you're underestimating what our cap is going to look like in 2 years. We can't unload top assets for a guy that is a ufa in two years without a plan. Larkin is prob going to cost more/better assets than eichel simply bc of the situation and the Stevie y affect.

So basically no plan and trade top assets to a gm that has a history of getting a premium.

This again goes back to the original point which was some people not wanting to pay to pry barkov out of Florida as a player we could extend now and who want to wait a year till he's a ufa but people will trade kravtsov nils and a 1st for a player that is a ufa in 2 years

Just feels like we’re getting Eichel if Strome is actually shipped out.

Personally, I think we're signing Danault. Eichel is risk, asset cost, and a huge cap hit. Danault fits with the "getting tougher to play against" mantra. I don't want to re-open the can of worms, but I posted a ton of info about Danault's 5v5 production, PP time, etc. yesterday that suggest he'd basically replicate Strome's production if used in the same role.
