On today’s segment of things I’ll never understand: Julien Gauthier: What is it About Him That Doesn’t Make Fans Go “hmm, okay then I guess?”?

What made this place become so obsessed with young players with okay-ish pedigree that do pretty much nothing?

No clue why Ottawa would be trading futures for now players but I'm not gonna sit here and question it if a good deal is out there.

If you listen to some of the podcasts out there, 31 Thoughts or hockey centra at noon, they’ve all voiced the fact that Ottawa feels they can make some noise next year. They have a pretty good young team. They have some holes for sure but they have cap space. I’m not sure I truly fear Montreal, Toronto or Boston like years past either.

upside, combined with a lack of opportunties.

You look at him and you can see him in your mind's eye scoring goals in lots of different ways. The uncomfortable fact is that he doesn't.

Whats a realistic return from Ottawa for Strome? I doubt they're giving up 10 overall and Norris is a obvious no. so...?

so whats a more realistic offer for both? my idea behind it was Dvorak + Garland is less than Eichel and you fill 2 spots. 2C and Garland can replace Buch (if he's too expensive) so that Kravtsov isn't thrown into a top 6 role right away

I'm just not dealing Schneider unless it's for a superstar.

They are both nice players, but not game changing.

I think a fair deal for Dvorak alone would be something like Jones + 15th. Garland is a good player but close to UFA (RFA this season). I don’t think he would return Strome + Kravtsov/Schneider. It’s hard to peg that one down but I’ll be honest, with the acquisition of Goodrow (assuming he signs) I’d be more likely to look for another lower cost option that Garland.

If they are trading Strome, it seems like the perfect time to trade Buch for a center.... Maybe with a Western team.... Maybe a Western Canadian team.... Maybe for their captain that they are under no circumstances trading....

that can't really be a thing, can it? my god. that would be incredible for us

So was fooling around

I guess value may be off? admittedly I dont know much about Garland but he seems like a decent player but Yotes can't sign him for whatever reason.

Strome, Krav, 15 and Schneider for Dvorak and Garland. too little, too much?

Panarin-Zib-Garland
Laf-Dvorak-Kakko
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Barron-Bellemare-Rooney

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Mccabe-Nils
Shesty
Kinkaid

signed Garland - 4.25X4
signed Goodrow 3.15 X 5
signed Bellemare 1.5 X 2
signed Mccabe 2.25 X 2

22M next year to sign Fox/Zib and give raises to Kakko (that is def doable)
33M the following year when Laf/Miller due for deals.

Haven't made a Buch deal yet (not sure who is interested and what the return we're looking for).

Way too much.

I dont think Schneider alone is getting a "game changer" and if the Rangers aren't dealing Nils, Schneider aint cracking into this team for at least 3 years

I would be very upset giving kravy and Schneider for that return. Dvo is a 3rd line center and garland sure as hell doesnt make up the difference. Big hell no from me. If we are giving up tht much it better be for a great young player who is a low end 1 high end 2.

I think Strome’s value is about a b-level prospect + 2nd, maybe another late round pick (4th or 5th). I don’t know Ottawa’s farm system well enough to find a good second tier guy though.

Paging others who know that system better

I dont think Dvorak is a "3C" at all. He's not exactly playing with good talent around him either. I think he's easily a 2C and a better version of Strome with Panarin (depending on chemistry obviously)
