This is what we need to doWorking a night shift and got bored so here’s my crack at a realistic lineup if an Eichel Trade goes down.
Eichel to NYR for Strome, Kravtsov, Z. Jones & 15th OA pick
RFAs
Buchnevich would need to be traded in this scenario. Theres just no way the team can fit him long term after adding 10mil with Eichel.
Chytil – 2 years/ 2.5 mil per – bridge deal
Shesterkin – 5 years / 5.5 mil – same deal a more proven Thatcher Demko got from Vancouver. Could also go short term bridge like Chytil.
Howden/Hajek/Gauthier – 1 gets claimed by Seattle (Gauthier) the other 2 are fired into the sun
This leaves the Rangers with about 10.5 mil to play with to bring in another winger, a 4th line center and another veteran LD.
UFAs
C/W Barclay Goodrow – 3 years / 3 million per – Admittedly probably a year and .5 AAV light on this contract. Another option that could be cheaper is Joel Armia (good forechecker, another Finn for Kakko), but I prefer Goodrow because he can take faceoffs on a line with Chytil.
D Jake McCabe – 2 years / 2 million per – Coming off a major knee injury, but when healthy hes a great defensive defenseman, only 27 years old, big body and wore an A for Buffalo. I believe the Rangers have had interest in him in the past as well.
C Derek Ryan – 1 year / 1.5 mil – Veteran 4th Line C who can win faceoffs and take the pressure off Zibanejad on the top PK unit
After these moves it leaves us with roughly 4 mil in cap space, as well as 2.45 available if they dump Georgiev for some breathing room. This would give them the opportunity to bring in another body or 2 on 1 year deals.
2021 Projected Opening Night Lineup
FORWARDS
Panarin – Zibanejad – Kreider
Lafreniere – Eichel – Kakko
Barron – Chytil – Goodrow
Rooney – Ryan – Blackwell
DEFENSE
Lindgren – Fox
Miller – Trouba
McCabe – Lundkvist
Goalies
Shesterkin
Georgiev
With Gallant at the helm, Eichel/Zibanejad/Chytil down the middle and veteran depth added throughout the lineup, I think this roster is a safe bet to make the playoffs (and win a round or 2) in an aging Metro division. They’d also have cap space to make adds at the deadline for the first time in forever, if Drury so chooses.
2022 Offseason
With about 22 mil in cap space, the team would be able to comfortable extend Fox, give Kakko a raise off his ELC, and fill out a cheap 4th line. The big decision point is Zibanejad(duh), who they would still be able to extend with an AAV in the 7.5-8.5 range, but it would be tight. If they go in a different direction at the center position, they could also roll with Eichel as the 1C, bump up Chytil and search for a middle 6 guy for far less than 8 million a year. Improvement from Kakko & Lafreniere would presumably help offset the loss of Mika’s goal scoring ability.
Thanks for reading. Roast away.
Knock it off.13 minute mark: LAFFY! LAFFY! LAFFY!

Knock it off.
I know people will say "its too similar" but if we can have Eichel and also keep Zibanejad Drury is a wizard.
Buchnevich for a young center would be great too.
Not only too similar, but too expensive.
You mean it's not gonna catch on at the garden?
It should. The atmosphere on the Garden must improve.
It should. The atmosphere on the Garden must improve.
In his example, the Rangers are paying 22M for 4 centers... 2 of them 1Cs.. the other a young one with really high potential. Thats actually good value
It would work in the short term, it wouldn’t long term. Laf’s next contract is going to be pretty significant as well.
not to mention 8.5 for Zibanejad and 2.5 for Chytil, even on a bridge, seem pretty optimistic.
Dude, I don’t know…there are 16 centers being paid $8M+ annually, and only one of those contracts was signed post-2019…I think Zibanejad and DEFINITELY Chytil are getting less than those numbers.
Chytil is getting less than 2.5?I think Zibanejad and DEFINITELY Chytil are getting less than those numbers.
Do you mean more?I think Zibanejad and DEFINITELY Chytil are getting less than those numbers.
Well we better sign him soon because if he hits that number he's gonna up his value another couple of million.Zib basically did Jack shit for 25 games and still finished in the top 20 in goals scored.
Everything in his game suffered last year at certain points, but no covid contract year Zibanejad is going to push 50 if he stays healthy.
