When PLD wanted out of Columbus there was speculation that he'd be willing to sign long-term with the Rangers. I'm inclined to think that's just Marek speculating based on that and maybe a nudge from PLD's camp to make him look more flexible than he is to drive the price up in a trade.

Moving Laf+ doesn't work cap wise and I'd be surprised if he had that much value in a trade at this point. The only way they could probably make things work is to move Zibanejad and then flip some of the pieces they got for him to Winnipeg. That being said, I see Zibanejad's NMC being a bigger deal than Panarin's.

Laf, Kakko, Chytil, Miller, Othmann are all 23 and under. 30 teams in the league would trip over their own feet running to the phone to get any of these players. Rangers have made some mistakes like all teams do, but they don't necessarily suck at drafting. They and the fan base suck at having patience. They suck at developing players. You can't take your top end young skilled players neuter them and tell them to play like 3rd and 4th line grinding numbskull neanderthals, and be surprised when they don't work out.

Some teams pick up our failed draft picks and turn them into useful players. Once they get away from the Rangers retirement resort old-boys club and century-old mentality of how young guys need to toil in the bottom before getting anything resembling an actual fair shake, they suddenly look like good players. Not the fake 10 game try out. Actual sustained season-long opportunities in big spots.

It's not a coincidence that so many players come through here and it's always the same results. Maybe it's not the players at that point but instead it's the Rangers inability to develop any player and the fans fault for pressuring the team because they need instant gratification.

And this extends not just to drafted players, but young players acquired through trades and UDFAs.

There's three examples in the Stanley Cup Final right now. Duclair, Howden, Marchessault. They weren't good enough for the Rangers high horse and cla$$ but they're good enough to contend for a Cup elsewhere while the Rangers and their bright lights are golfing, and one of them most likely high and DJing every night instead of trying to be a better hockey player.
I recall a quote from Mess about a young Amonte on his wing. Something like, you gotta let the kid have some space to grow and find his place, get comfortable, etc. And he was off to a great NYR career until Keenan mind-effed him. Note that he blossomed again when he left.

Why in the world don’t we see more of THAT? (the grow stuff, not the mind-eff stuff)

Good forbid we give our kids the grace and space to friggen find their game like most teams. It’s not like it didn’t work for Amonte. Just…you know…do it again a few more times than ONCE. It takes a generational captain to come up with this concept and get it done? GTFOH.

IMO, Drury should STOP thinking every player is a clone of himself. Some horses need to work from the bottom up to be successful. Some are born stallions and need to race.

Blackhawks willing to move 19. Panarin for 19th. They sign Kane. Draft Bedard. Still looking at 20 million in cap space to improve. Cut it. Print it. Sell it.
I get people are bitchy about Panarin but trading a 90 point winger for the 19th overall pick is just atrocious

My issue with Chytil or Trochek to RW is that the team then needs a 3C. Unless they can find one super cheap, it doesn’t make sense.
They need a 3c for the playoffs. If you can fill that top six rw slot at Chytil's $4.4 mill for the next four seasons that's a big win for the rangers. I would rather see Chytil given a shot at 2RW for some of the regular season than a player like Goodrow/Vesey/Fast. Finding a 3c at the TDL is a lot easier and cheaper than a legitimate 2RW.

We've mad some really bad draft choices the past 15 years, IDK how anyone can deny it.

Andersson, McIlrath, Kravtsov as high choices.

Wasted 2nd round picks on Lindbom, Lafleur, and Halverson. Gropp and Thomas did nothing. Henriksson is set to join them.

The last successful NYR 2nd round pick was Derek Stepan in 2008.

NYR better hope Cuylle/Robertson and Jones work out otherwise we're 0-for in rounds 2-3 since Buchnevich. Last late pick to make a difference excluding Barron was Jesper Fast.

Awful

How dare you forget my boy Sykora

If we could somehow make it work cap-wise, would you give up our 1st round pick for PLD?

It'd have to take some cap gymnastics... WPG qualifies him at $6M for a year and eats $1M in a trade to us. We then extend him.

p.s. it's semi serious but interesting.

people keep using regular season numbers but the issue has become the post-season. Can Panarin turn it around? sure. But he's been abysmal for us in the post-season. He's making 11.6M.
I’m driving the get Panarin out of town train. I was trying to be semi unbiased here. I trade him for Duchene all day long.

We got Mules with our 1st and 2nd overalls, not stallions.

Looking forward to Cuylle and Othmann sooner rather than later. There is some Clydsdale there.

KAM is a stallion with a Llama brain. They spit right?

Krav was a polo pony in a sequin dress.

I still see a better offensive verison of Lehtinen with Kakko.

He just got yo-yo'd so much early on by Quinn.

You have a better chance of Lafreniere or Kakko change the way they Panarin. If Panarin was committed to do this, he should have done it after we lost to the Bolts. he's a veteran that doesn't seem like a team player even if it hurts his regular season points to get more success in the playoffs. He doesn't have that in him
Then play him with Goodrow and Vesey until he does.

Dubois wants big money.

But generally, Dubois is likely seeking a contract in the $9 million a year range, which is what we projected he would be in a position to ask for six weeks ago.

Mathew Barzal ($9.15 million a year), Roope Hintz ($8.45 million) and Tkachuk ($9.5 million) are three recent contracts Brisson and his team can use as comparables, because each of them signed that contract one year away from UFA status, with arbitration rights as impending restricted free agents, just like Dubois.

What if:

To NYR:
PLD
- Signs a 6 year deal for $6.5m per season
PIT 2nd '23 (from Nashville)

To NSH:
Panarin

To WPG
Duchene
NSH 2nd '23

Duchene doesn't have any trade protection

Something like that would work. Panarin gets to go play under Brunette in a great city. PLD gets to play in a large market which has been his wish since the beginning. Duchene doesn't get a say but he goes to add offense to a team looking for help now.
PLD is strictly a rental. You would have to way WAY OVERPAY him to get him to even think about staying.
Be happy we move bread
if we get PLD as a rental fine
if not fine

It is. Really believe Kakko just needs the opportunity on special teams.

He was been handled just horribly in his young career.

Play him with Kreider and Zib so he can save their bacon 5v5 and give him PP time in the bumper so he can deflect pucks and find rebounds. He’s a 70 point player next year if used correctly. I loved the edge he played with in the Devils series too.

Does Comtois play RW? I'd be interested in him out of the other 2. Some more sandpaper with some skill isn't bad to take a chance on

Not sure but listed as a LW
Problem with some of these names is they still will get ok money if they go ufa

A buyout guy got most of his money so would sign cheap on the right team

Can we make a list of cheap G, C, LD as UFAs ?
That’s all they can likely fit in unless Goodrow has some value and even then they likely need to tang say a 2 million player back

What about Reilley on D once Boston buys him out ? 1 million likely to compete with Jones

Ned as the backup for 1 million ?

Sign Laf and Miller soon so they know what’s left to spend

Would Chytil for PLD stright up work? I know money would have to work else (GoodY traded) Would we have to add more?
