Im curious on something. How much blame do you put on Trouba? He should be apart of this team being motivated and playing hard. But it seems like they coast so much even in must win games.
Is there any blame you put on the captain for that? (Obviously it’s not fully his fault)

The fact that Matthew Tkachuk makes $2.1m less than Panarin each year is banana land
Sure it’s all those guys too. But IF a captain can’t motivate his players are you really a true leader?

I blame more for his play. He isn't worth 8 million. His offense is non existent. The worst pp QB in hockey. Hated the contract at the time. Hate it even more now.

Ok but every team has bad contracts. My question is leaning more to him as a captain and how this team plays with his being a captain.

I’d be looking very hard at Goodrow, Panarin and then Trouba. In that order.
You're not wrong. Most of what you say is spot on. I still feel Chytil can be a 50-60 point player even with pretty much the zero meaningful pp time he gets. He surely can be a decent young 2nd line center. Trocheck can be a good 3C.
Goodrow will be gone because he is moveable. Unloading Panarin will have to take some magic.
One is not like the other. 2 of the 3 are not moveable for several reasons. Goodrow as much as some people feel he is an overpaid bum he is the one who is the easiest to move.
Id be looking at sather, drury and gallant in that order.
But if we only looking at players. I am looking to unload Miller first. Think we can get a good hail for him, and am convinced he will never hit potential.
Next up would be goodrow, just bc of contract.
If nmcs werent a problem i would move kreider bc we can get a haul for him and trocheck bc innever liked that contract.
Nobody is taking panarin or zibs.
And even though trouba is overpaid, i do like his leadership and he brings grit and hitting. Just wishe his contract was in the $5-6m range.

Getting rid of Trouba should be priority number 1. Having that anchor eating up so much cap space and ice time kills us.

Trouba is definitely more realistic, but it will cost to dump him. Ah well, only (2?) more years till he can be traded. Something like that

I have no issue if they want to get rid of Bread, but a huge fear of going all grit, which Chris Drury loves.
Get players that can skate, give Hagelin a one year deal coming off surgery if he wants to play.

Panarin needs to play with elite grinders who forecheck and get to the net. That way they can force a turnover to Panarin while the defense is disjointed, giving him space to do his thing.
That’s how Panarin-PLD-Andersen got to Tampa. That’s why Fast worked well with Panarin. Unfortunately, NYR do not have that kind of player.
I’d obviously want to get rid of Panarin and his insane cap hit, but he’s a good regular season player and we would only be hurting ourselves by trading him for nothing or paying to get rid of his cap hit (this is the Ranger way).
We need to find some pain in the ass types this summer to play with him, build his value, then maybe be able to sell high when the cap is higher and better play raises his value.

Kane, Motte, Mikkola and Tarasenko need to walk. This lineup needs even more of an infusion of youth.
Goodrow needs to be moved because he is the only decent sized contract who is at a veteran age that can be moved.
Cuylle, Othmann, Edstrom and Jones need to make this team. This team needs youth and tenacity and these guys will bring it. Accept the warts they will bring and spark these old dogs.
Beg and plead with anyone in the league to take Panarins contract off our hands.

At this point I think buying out Panarin is the only realistic option. No one wants a playoff turnover machine choker. Useless
