THE BIG WHISTLE
Heave-Ho
This is exactly what Vinny did against us in the playoffs and he was tough to containTrocheck's style works in a lot of ways better for the Rangers. One way not talked about is his net front presence for Powerplay 2.
Rangers experimented all year with how to get that 2nd powerplay going. The first powerplay largely revolves around Kreider being planted in front of the net, then the perimeter work flows. The Rangers kept trying different guys in front of the net on the 2nd unit (hell, we even had Hunt there at one point). Trocheck is a great net front guy, but won't take over from Kreider.
Trocheck slides into PP2, and it allows Laf to take the free spot on PP1, which is likely with his 2 even strength linemates as well (Zib and Kreider).
Aside from that, at even strength, how many times did we see Panarin pull up at the blue line and then Strome try to float his way into a seam pass from him. Strome didn't go to the net, it wasn't his game. It led to us using a net and boards guy on the opposite wing. Trocheck can push forward to the net and pull a defender or two towards him when Panarin gains the zone and pulls up. This naturally lends itself a lot better to a trailing winger, rather than whatever pond hockey we let the 2nd unit run around with last season (it scored points, but we saw it die in the postseason and it also lets up a lot of chances).
Now you put him with Bread and he is going to open the ice for him.
