I think that AAV will be reasonable if not a discount for a 75 point player in a couple years after the cap goes up.

I have a feeling Stutzle is point per game this year. He essentially was for the last third of the season playing C and that team has Tkachuk, Debrincat, Giroux and Batherson for top 4 wings. He’s in a huge position to succeed. There’s also a year left on his ELC before the new cap hit kicks in, which gives him another full year to further breakout before they’re paying him those big bucks.

35 of his 58 points last season came in the final 35 games. 31 in the final 27. Only 23 in the first 44 games. Or 27 in the first 52, depending where you split it. If he’s the player he was for the last 35 games of the year, he’s probably an 80+ point player next year. And the supporting cast is only improved.

First 44 - 23 points
(First 52 - 27 points)
Last 35 - 35 points
(Last 27 - 31 points)
Total 79 - 58 points

60 point per 82 pace, 43 point pace to start (or 42), 82 point pace to finish (or 94). One year left on his ELC before the new cap hit kicks in as well. Even if he splits the difference between those two paces, he’d be a 71 point player coming off his ELC when that contract kicks in and takes him from 21-29. Having a 21 year old 70+ point center locked up until they’re 30 is the way to do it.

wtf is Ottawa doing? $8.35M for Stutzle?

I could understand 8x8 for J.Hughes. Not the Stutzle contract. Destroys the market. Unless the GMs are confident cap will explode in a year or two
it's predicted to go up a lot once the escrow from the covid years is fully paid back

8.35 is essentially the 8/8 hughes got but with the ottawa tax.
It locks in what should be their 1c for 8 years, while also giving them future flexibility once the cap goes up.

I dont think its unreasonable to assume the cap is going to shoot up in 2 years. The bigger question for us is will they moderate the jump by pushing the cap up 5m next year.

Based on this past years revenue the cap should've shot up. Assuming ticket prices continue to climb, (arizona just released a report that they're seeing an increase in season ticket sales), and ad's on jerseys are going to also bump HRR.

but we already have 4th liners. Unless Goodrow, Carpenter, and Hunt are all in a plane crash Vesey really has no spot.

Players like Vesey are prime candidates to play too many minutes and he serves absolutely no need. I don't think he'll get signed but it will be really irritating if he does.
Depth wins championships. Hunt, Carpenter and Vesey are likely to swap in and out all year imo. Never know when you need someone, Blais most likely wont play a full year, Reaves wont be an every night roster player.

Getting ahead of a cap issue, imo its really smart. If the cap goes up like its supposed to be it'll be like he's making 5 mill in his prime.

We should have done the same but there were too many non vital pieces we decided we couldn’t live without.

Drake Batherson just put up 44 points in 46 games and is signed at under 5 mill per until '27-28. When you have contracts like that I guess you can afford to take on Stutzle's contract. That team actually has a lot of young players locked up for term. It's definitely aggressive and more of a wager than most contracts you see but I like it

Imagine if they signed him for 6-7M, which is more than fair. He's a promising young talent... I dont think he's worth that contract yet. From the limited action I've seen he's not a play driver or a game changer

Hughes is a different tier ( really stratosphere imo ) than Stutzle and is the Franchise Face and Center. The only comparables are they are young and offensively talented.

When do they announce training camp rosters?

I’d have to imagine a LHD with some NHL experience will be on that list with a PTO

These are the UFA LHD
CORRECTION this list includes RFAs, the guys w team logos. sorry

Staple mentioned that Beaulieu has history w Turk, Kelly

You can't give a kid 8 years at current market value and expect him to sign. In all honesty, the speed at which that franchise is moving and getting better i wouldn't be surprised if he earns the 8 mill this season. I think it's pretty obvious he's a fairly special player, i doubt this of all contracts blows up in their face outside of an injury.

Lou is going to announce the Motte, Rodriguez, De Haan, Greene, Chara, and Galchenyuk signings in a week.

Though I recall seeing something about Sonny Milano to NYI. Likely done but under wraps. Not sure if this was a thing earlier in the thread.

Don’t know if you’re being serious here, but it would be hilarious if this actually happens

I think its a no-brainer. Stutzle is the real deal. 8m now will be 5m in 2030. You may not know if he will be a 8m player in a year or two, but you clear a ton of risk and has an extreme amount of potential at the back-end of that contract so its a decision that got to be seen as being worth it.
