NYR are out in five games with a league average goalie last year.

But this is all way to early to discuss. Not only will the roster likely look substantially different by the end of Shesterkin's contract, we will also have much more knowledge about Shesty's consistency.

Most goalies aren't like Hank Hasek and Luongo. They have big up and down years.

Jonathan Quick from 2012 to 2013
Ryan Miller
Carey Price

These guys all had Vezina or close to Vezina quality seasons mixed with year where they'd post like a .905

Whether this is Shesty's new normal, or if he will bob up and down, is yet to be seen. If he goes back to .915 next season people here will simultaneously cool on him, as will his projected market value.
Didn't Shesty have a sub .900 save % in round 1?. Also Shesty has been elite since he entered the league in 2020, its not like last season came out of nowhere.

Combat training makes a lot of sense for goalies. Not that it can't be beneficial to skaters, but there is a heavy emphasis on reflexes and repetition which is advantageous to goalies in a more direct way than skaters.

I don't read too much into Panarin's playoffs. His center Strome was obviously hurt and those last games against the Lightning he shouldn't have even played. Tampa scored their first goal in the last game mainly because Strome couldn't move anymore. He should have been in a hospital bed not on the ice. Copp was also pretty banged up by that point. It's an issue when both your line mates can't function near expectations anymore.

Shesty has been elite since the VHL. This was a long time coming and I'm still floored he never took a hit, no matter which rank he's climbed to. He's been this goalie in the VHL/KHL/AHL and now our sweet, sweet New York Rangers.

Gallants response: play them more! Cut minutes of your best line because they are “kids”. Adams finalist baybeee

He actually looks half decent.

Huge step up from some of the other guys who have boxed as part of their off season work out. Vesey's attempt at it was LOL worthy and Hayes was stiff as a board.
I missed those guys and their boxing training but Shesty's definitely got some pop behind those punches and moving well for a newcomer to boxing.

I really like varied training like this, and boxing especially so for a goalie at his age when he should have just maxed out most of skills and technique.

+2 core strength
+3 upper body strength, speed and flexibility
+1 reflexes
+2 hand eye
+1 in-game stamina (especially after a nice 4 minute shift hemmed in our zone)
+4 balls size

Terrible sox + shorts form

I mean I'm not totally surprised, considering what the D-depth looks like.

The Rangers and bungling 1st round picks from Europe, a match made in heaven
What is up with these euro NYR picks? It's frustrating at this point.
You can't be competitive and give enough opportunities for the youngsters at the same time. That's just the way it is.

Nils requested a trade and is unlikely to report to camp as per Brooks.

It's really frustrating. While I understand Nils' concern that he's blocked from making the squad on the right side, and won't have much if any PP time with Fox already here, it just seems too impatient to me. It's one thing to be absolutely ready for a top 6 role but you're blocked. It's another thing when you have yet to prove you're ready. Nils really didn't show enough in the A last year to warrant next man up status. He actually wasn't being blocked for most of last season. His play warranted going back to the A. His play in the A warranted he stay there. I get he wants to be moved, but he very well may be back in the A no matter where he gets moved. So, it's premature by maybe 6 months, a full season? It's also possible that he's no more than Tim Erixon. But, on the other hand, the A and really Hartford is the worst of all of his options when he likely would make more money and play in front of bigger crowds by staying Europe.

What he should do is come to NYR camp and try to earn the open spot on the roster. But he's not even giving himself that opportunity. And look, i get that he probably wouldnt get the spot as LD is his off-handed side and they'd likely send him back down and then he'd be dreaming of playing in Europe, having missed Swedish training camp. It's not ideal. But none of that solves the fact that he needs to get more experience on NA ice right now.

f***. Goddamn it.

I dont think for a second that Schneider will bomb and have a sophomore slump, but for Nils just go into camp and see what happens. God Forbid and injury, etc. Not showing up to camp? Wtf. You had more than an extended look last season with plenty of NHL time. I get it. Its a business and he wants his time too. But this is a little early to see this and now its public too. Hoping theyll get fair value for him
