Shestyorkin definitely has the potential to be an elite starter in the NHL. I think Georgie's has starter potential as well but perhaps not as high of a ceiling.

Either way, going out of our way to draft a high end goalie is probably a mistake right now.

Ok, so we have got two good G prospects. Very nice :) It's a pity we will propably have to make Georgiev available for Seattle in 2021.

Yeah, but I think we more or less all the time can dig up goalies that can play at an OK level in the NHL. The hard part will be to find the next guy that can be special, top 5-6 in the league.

I know that we were interested in Anders Nilsson when we got Pavlec. Think he made a bad decision going to Vancouver. Wouldn’t mind to see Allaiere get to work with one of those bigger guys that also has a lot of talent.

Both Geo, and maybe Shesty, are special talents. But it takes something else to take that next step.

Seems light. Maybe give Winnipeg their 1st back and it might be enough.
It could be a starting point. I just dont think they have much leverage.

Trouba can dictate where he goes.

I'd wonder if they'd have interest in Shattenkirk?

We would not. He would be the only goalie we have to protect.

Ok, you're right. There isn't any requirement regarding games played for a goalies in expansion draft. if I understand it correctly it means we can expose any contracted goalie even he won't play a single game in nhl.

btw I know shesty will be protected anyway because of his short nhl experience.

Signing Shesty, Kravtsov & Rykov
1-2 pillarish veteran UFA signings without huge term
Reasonable RFA deals respectively
Dumping 1-2 anchors

That in itself would be one helluva offseason

And what about Lundqvist? Do you think he would agree to waive his NMC and go to the Stanley Cup contender this or next year (If he stays in Rangers he won't win the Cup in his whole career)? I know he is not in his prime but probably he would be a good back up. We would be able to retain some/most of his salary and give more opportunities of gaining experience for Georgiev AND Shesty. Moreover we would get something in return.

No, he can't. He is still an restricted free agent. So his choices are limited. They may well come to terms on a one year deal again. Thereafter, it remains on Trouba to both be productive and be healthy. The latter has been an issue.

They well may well as a third pairing defenseman, but that has noting to do with Trouba's fate

He's 1 year from being a UFA. WPG will most likely trade him and no team will trade for him unless a contract is agreed upon. He has control and WPG has little leverage.

anchors being Staal and Shattenkirk

Skjei Trouba
Hajek ADA
Rykov/Lindgren Fox

I can dig it

Or they know something, like his inability to stay on the ice or the fact that that he has never had to be the man, and they would wait until the next deadline and trade him then?

1. Just about a done deal.
2. Certainly a possibility, but also depends on the Canes.
3. There will definitely be an effort to accomplish that.
4. Might be difficult if the second item happens.
5. Two down, one to go.
6. Might be a challenge to find the sweet spot where talent and term intersect at a reasonable cost.
7. Probable.
8. Going to be a challenge. I just don't think there's a huge market for those guys unless we take on another anchor.

It's been talked about a lot, he has no intention of staying in WPG and wants to play in the States.

WPG has to maximize their return. Signing him to a 1 year deal and losing him for nothing would be poor. Trading your #1 RHD at the deadline, while contending, would be poor. This needs to be figured out this off-season.

WPG will take the best offer available from the team Trouba agrees upon. They have a shitty hand to play

Any potential trade return for them is going to be weighed against what Trouba can do for them for a cup run next year

Yeah, I don't see a team like Winnipeg looking for prospects and picks at this point.

If they're listening, they'll want to hear names of guys who have term left, or guys at a similar level who are more likely to resign with them.

Crazy the consensus about Lundqvist being done. Media and fans alike. I'm of the opposite opinion; that he's no longer capable (as few NHL goalies ever are) of playing 70 games a season — which he was pacing for up until the All-Star game (which he was named to, as at that point, our best player, and the only reason for our ridiculous 9-1-1 run) but still is a very good starter. Georgiev had a great second half. But the kid played 33 games this year, and for the better part of the first half, the roles were reversed — Georgiev was in the minors to stay warm since he couldn't be trusted to win a game.

Maybe it'd be more convenient for the Franchise if Lundqvist really did look cooked, retired at the end of his contract, and that on the flip side Georgiev and Shesty were as obviously the real deal as they've been declared. Still, it's sad to see so many older goalies getting immense respect around the league, proving themselves with stretches no more impressive than the 35 games (more than Georgiev's full season total) Lundqvist played before the All-Star weekend. Meanwhile, even Rangers fans are ready to toss him aside, likely because all those games he single-handedly won or kept close, were actually frustratingly counter to our tanking hopes at the time.
