I obviously doubt this would happen but if I was dru id try to trade into the first round to grab a sliding lambert(either lundkvist or 2 2nds+). Let him cook for a season or 2. Sign Lindgren or greiss as a backup. Then sign some cheap depth players like hinostroza, carpenter, hell maybe a guy like kessel or Neal to be a vet/fill in for injuries. Then just throw all the rest of the $ at 1 year of Malkin while lambert or another top c develops. Then go

Amazing for preseason. They will be on plenty of highlights - good and bad - during the regular season. Then it will be like the William Dafoe scene from Platoon come the post season.

Kessel on the 4th line seems really weird (terrible) to me. Kessel can still play and if you signed Malkin he might rekindle some magic there but it'd have to be for like 1 year $1M and as a 5th or 6th option after plans A, B, C, and D failed.

We don't have a 2nd next year to trade. While nils has value, he's at d+3 and hasnt had 10 games in the NHL. He's gonna need to be traded for someone who's at a similar point.

I don’t think Kane get traded but if he does, he’ll have a big say in where he goes. I’d assume he would want to go to a team he would re-up with after next season and the Rangers wouldn’t be able to afford him. Maybe he goes to Buffalo though.

Back-up goalies. The Rangers need a capable back-up goalie for under $1M.

Scott Wedgewood was good in Dallas. He made $825,000 last season. Dallas acquired Wedgewood from Arizona after Brayden Holtby got hurt. Holtby is a free agent. Dallas has Anton Khudobin under contract for another season. Khudobin was hurt last season. Everyone was hurt for Dallas. Bishop couldn't play. Oettinger became the guy. Wedgewood won a few big games for the Stars late in the season.

Casey DeSmith is a good option. $1.25M last season.

Our old friend Louis Domingue. $750,000 last season.

There are the older and more expensive goalies. Martin Jones. Jaro Halak. Thomas Greiss. Holtby.

David Rittich had a few good moments in Calgary. Nashville has Connor Ingram who played in the playoffs for Nashville.. Rittich is OK.

A couple of trade options are Filip Gustavsson and Kappo Kahkonen. Ottawa has three goalies under contract. Matt Murray, Anton Forsberg and Gustavsson. Murray has a big contract. He is always hurt. The Leafs might be interested in Murray. Kyle Dubas connection. SSM. $787,500 for Gustavsson.

Kaapo Kahkonen. SJ has James Reimer$2.25M) and Adin Hill($2.175M) signed for next season. Arizona got a 2nd for Hill last year. What is SJ doing with Kahkonen? He is arbitration eligible. Will they qualify him? They probably will but they have two other goalies signed for next season. SJ doesn't have a GM. Doug Wilson left the team(leave of absence) last November/December. He officially left the organization a few months ago. They haven't hired a GM. The draft is in 2 weeks. The off-season starts in 3 weeks. Mike Grier might get that job. The owner needs to hire a GM. The new GM might want to change head coach. SJ is concerned about the number of long-term contracts on their books. What did SJ do at the deadline? 8 years for Hertl. $725,000 for Kahkonen. $750,000 QO.

The Rangers need a back-goalie and #7D for less than $2M combined.

Kane at 50% is $5.25M. How are the Rangers fitting that money into their cap and have enough money left over to fill out the roster? Who cares if Panarin and Kane had two great seasons together. Did the Hawks win anything? They didn't win a playoff series. This isn't some stupid video game. Panarin needs to get his shit together because his playoff performance sucked and the Rangers have $11.6M invested in him for four more seasons. It will hard for them to win without a significant contribution from Panarin.

Malkin is better than any 2C we’ve had with this group to be honest. But I still don’t want him.

Kane will retire in Chicago. There’s no way they’ll ever let him go even though they should.
