People are too obsessed with getting a top pick two drafts from now. That's not the only part of the equation when it comes to adding in UFA.

If we trade Kreider for example, who do you think is going to be there to insulate the Chytil, Andersson, Kravtsov maybe even Kakko types? Even if Kakko comes in and tears it up in a totally ideal way, he's a kid and he's going to need talent with and around him to make that work. That goes double for all the other kids who don't have the same talent and potential he does. A guy like Panarin makes a line himself - he forces other teams to adjust and strategize around him. That's what we need to help these kids imo. We can't have Mika and whoever we want to score on one line and then kids and crap on the others. That's not going to set them up for success, that's Edmonton and Buffalo level magical thinking where you give these kids nothing and assume they'll develop like you've given them all the right stuff.

Stop gaps can be signed.

Yes he is a left wing so deep the 2020 draft, but maybe a bit early since we are not done with 2019 yet! :)
We are always looking for the future these days so it seems. ))
It’s Bright!

There is zero chance Panarin signs here. Quote me on it, remind me, whatever. He ain’t signing here. He is very clearly going to Florida.

This is like when other people say stuff like “well Fox might sign somewhere else”.

As more and more time passes it seems less and less likely he is coming here.

Chytil and Andersson are the insulation now, too. They both have significant pro experience. Granted, they might not be good yet but they certainly won't get good by being "sheltered." Next step, bit more pressure, can they rise to it.

Who would be willing to sign short UFA deals and is actually good enough to be helpful to these kids? 4th liners get years in UFA these days.
We'll see how this summer goes. Lot of money will go to RFAs. There won't be a lot of cap left for veteran UFAs. The trends are emerging. Teams are less likely to spend on those guys. Lots of hard lessons learned.

Yep because thats it. The “plan” is solely based around signing multiple “high priced UFAs”.

Because every successful team was built strictly from within. No added pieces right? No Hossa. No Carter. No Kessel.

Yep anyone who has an interest in Panarin coming is off the rails crazy and clearly is wrong.

We got it.

You also can’t baby these players. Let them step up, let them grow, let them become the players they are meant to become by themselves. Great players will be great regardless if they have a 11 million dollar winger in front of them or not.

Those teams added while they were on the cusp of contending.
We arent that yet

It's nothing like that.
It’s exactly like that. Even though every sign in the world is pointing Panarin to Florida people still act like he’s gonna come here. Just like even though there is every indication in the world that Fox wants to sign with us people insist “maybe that won’t happen.”

It’s time to move on.

Those pieces were all added after those teams had established cores...

Is this similar to how Mike Francesa said Tiger Woods chance to win the Masters was "nil" and then a guy won 1.2M by betting on him at 14:1?

As stated maybe a 100 times, you sign Panarin for the 20-21 season. And that was stated before we landed the No. 2 pick.

Drafting a kid like Kakko accelerates a rebuild. It does change things. I know it bothers some who want to tank next year with the hope the Lottery lands the No. 1 pick.

Except we know that Fox wants to play for the Rangers and most likely no one else, while Panarin also has the Rangers high on his list according to almost all insiders.
