2 questions... why are people saying the asset acquisition phase is near over? The prospect pool, while bigger, isn't as strong as it should be for a team looking to compete in 4-5 years... of our pro prospects, DeAngelo is the only oneb well on his way to being a difference-maker, maybe Georgiev... Chytil, while skilled, probably won't be a game-breaker... Andersson is less likely to be one. The only two prospects looking to be that good are Kravtsov and Miller, who's like 175 years away from the NHL. I know people fall in love with prospects, but look at Boston's center depth for example. You've got to outdo everyone else, and of course get lucky in order to win. And that doesn't necessarily mean signing every young FA prospect?

So, nearing the end of "re-stocking the cupboard, more to my other question; why is EVERYONE all about Fox, another offensive RD with suspect defense?

I have an even better question, on a scale 1-100, how realistic is it to think that this organization owns the decision on whether the asset acquisition phase is over?

Teams that has sucked as much as we do right now usually have to spend close to a decade getting out of the hole they are in. But for us, we are weighting words and expression from our GM during the exit meeting to understand if he will snap his fingers and make us a PO team again or keep collecting assets.

This is a bit of a non issue for me. If we manage to do so well that we stop getting high 1st things are going in the right direction. Not to mention if we can stay there. Young PO team without long expensive commitments etc.

Let me put it this way, I don’t think those who are worried about the asset collecting phase being over must lose a lot of sleep. Overwhelming odds are that we aren’t getting out of it as fast as we want, not the other way around. We’d be the first team in NHL history to ever face that predicament....

Kevin Hayes isnt special...50 point player who is huge but not physical, offensive but won't shoot enough, and he is probably getting overpaid this summer. We made the right decision. Now it's up to Kreider whether he wants to play with Zibanajad and the Rangers for the next while. He will get the same treatment if his number is too high.

OTOH, many of the special players in this league aren’t more special than Hayes either... ;)

Like Hayes would peak with some good numbers if he constantly got to play with better talent. There are plenty of guys out there with good numbers in strong environment who wouldn’t necessarily put up the same on our team...

Brooks always has this infatuation with certain players. Bobby Holik. Scotty Gomez. Ilya Kovalchuk. Kevin Hayes.

This is the second time Brooks has written about Hayes in the last few weeks. He wrote the same thing about the Rangers needing Hayes because they can't go into next season without more experience at center. He asked if anyone had the phone number for Hayes.

Filip Chytil, Lias Andersson, Brett Howden: The kid centers have all hit the wall, hit it hard and are producing diminishing returns as the finish line comes into focus. Chytil, who has played the past four games in the middle, has not scored in 20 games since Feb. 6. Howden has scored one goal in his past 43 games dating back to Nov. 12. Andersson, who showed moxie and not disrespect in his battle with Patrice Bergeron in Boston on Wednesday, has not scored in 25 NHL games beginning Nov. 29 and seems no more ready for a regular role than he did in September. Off this finish, it is impossible to believe management will commit to the three neophytes as the team’s two-three-four centers out of the 2019-20 gate.

Anyone have Kevin Hayes’ contact information?

Classic.

Brooks loved Avery too.

@Ola Yes true, but we all knew what was going to happen when Ryan Mc. was moved to Tampa - you don`t find top #2 D that easy and it will be an ongoing process and I remember you was against that particular move, because most of us knew we were already in deep water of a rebuild. :)
It`s always a risk involved, but we have been a mediocre team for too long and something like a new direction was going to happen. If not Jeff, probably with another GM too.

Pavel Buchnevich is a group II with arbitration rights. He is 3 years away from group III. Does Gorton give him a 5 year contract or a 2 year bridge deal? Pavel came on at the end of the season. Do the Rangers trust him? If Pavel struggles, the Rangers aren't on the hook for a long term deal but it will cost them more to keep Buchnevich if he becomes a legit top 6 forward. He showed signs of being that player.

Kenny Albert had a stat on the Rangers-Bruins NBCSN broadcast from two weeks ago. The Rangers will have 7 first round picks over 3 years. Only one team has had that many. He didn't name the team. It was the Buffalo Sabres. Scotty Bowman became the Sabres GM and he made trades to acquire 1st round picks.

Three first round picks in 1982 & 1983. One first round pick in 1984.

The Rangers could have more than seven first round picks over 3 years. The Rangers could be the first team to have more than 7 picks over 3 years in the history of the NHL.

The Flyers will likely pursue a No. 2 center in the offseason, which would move Nolan Patrick down to the No. 3 spot.

Patrick, in his second season, finished with 13 goals, the same number as in his rookie year, and just 31 points.

Brock Nelson (25 goals), Matt Duchene (31), and Kevin Hayes (19) are among the unrestricted free agents the Flyers could pursue.

Brooks is so ****ing annoying. Guy just wont let Hayes go. If the numbers didn't align for the past 12 months, why would they align now? Larry got no patience for a rebuild.

It’s not about Larry Brooks not having patience, it’s about a curmudgeon of a man that wants to support his existing relationships. Boring. Like everyone, he’s very replaceable. I’m tired of hearing about LB as a personality. Know your role - or move on, Larry.

Yes @RangerBoy if they move Kreider for an NHL ready prospect + 1 another 1st round 2020 pick - it might be a record for sure which will be remembered in the history books!

Not sure it will get us closer to a cup in the next 2-3 years, but consider Kreider is almost useless without speed. I will take the risk and move on and quite happy with another 1st pick. My point is he don`t get faster with age so I understand if Jeff continue the course into the next 2020 season. :)

I knew we had to be close to the record, but this spells it out.

Barring any trades we’ll tie. If the Tampa or Dallas conditions hit, we’ll set a record.

Hold on a second. ...."Kreider is almost useless without speed."

What are we saying here??? Is this not true for any player? He happens to be one of the best conditioned athletes in the NHL. Moreover - Kreider led the entire league in goals in front of the net. So if anything, we're looking at a player that should age quite well. Sorry, not getting off the hook - I think you have this one wrong!

Not surprising. The Flyers fired Hextall because they didn't want to continue with his patient, rebuild through the draft plan, right? Chuck Fletcher said they'd have money to spend this summer. They've alternated missing the playoffs with losing in the first round for years.

Brett Connolly. Big, right handed 27 y.o. UFA. Could be of NYR interest - if price is right.
If he has another big playoffs the price won't be right lol. Just noticed he was picked 6th overall in 2010.

Points aside Hayes is a very interesting player, a rare combination of size and skill, puck possession, 2 way game. I would love to re-sign him for 4 seasons a lot of his plays are really high end highlight reel caliber.

The Rangers don't need Kevin Hayes and I completely agree with you - I just don't get Brooks' harping on this. If Gorton & Co. wanted him, they would've signed him. I'll go directly to jail and not collect the $200 please.

he's trying to achieve karmic balance for all the things he wrote about Torts

Yeah, but at the same time, you don’t have to go back that far to have most of our picks in the 2nd round. ;) 24 teams in 94’ and so forth.

BTW, great info RB!!
