2 questions... why are people saying the asset acquisition phase is near over? The prospect pool, while bigger, isn't as strong as it should be for a team looking to compete in 4-5 years... of our pro prospects, DeAngelo is the only oneb well on his way to being a difference-maker, maybe Georgiev... Chytil, while skilled, probably won't be a game-breaker... Andersson is less likely to be one. The only two prospects looking to be that good are Kravtsov and Miller, who's like 175 years away from the NHL. I know people fall in love with prospects, but look at Boston's center depth for example. You've got to outdo everyone else, and of course get lucky in order to win. And that doesn't necessarily mean signing every young FA prospect?
So, nearing the end of "re-stocking the cupboard, more to my other question; why is EVERYONE all about Fox, another offensive RD with suspect defense?
I have an even better question, on a scale 1-100, how realistic is it to think that this organization owns the decision on whether the asset acquisition phase is over?
Teams that has sucked as much as we do right now usually have to spend close to a decade getting out of the hole they are in. But for us, we are weighting words and expression from our GM during the exit meeting to understand if he will snap his fingers and make us a PO team again or keep collecting assets.
This is a bit of a non issue for me. If we manage to do so well that we stop getting high 1st things are going in the right direction. Not to mention if we can stay there. Young PO team without long expensive commitments etc.
Let me put it this way, I don’t think those who are worried about the asset collecting phase being over must lose a lot of sleep. Overwhelming odds are that we aren’t getting out of it as fast as we want, not the other way around. We’d be the first team in NHL history to ever face that predicament....
