It`s false marketing - no one believe Rangers is back into playoffs anytime soon who have spent some hours each game night on this Franchise. The word playoffs should be edited before that was posted public. ;)

And Brady Skjei`s season was not that successful he need to train hard this summer. :)
My point, is I wouldn't look to too deeply into what's in a fluff, marketing piece.

I don't know if I viewed the Islanders as a rebuilding team, so much as a team that just couldn't see to put the pieces together consistently, and effectively role out a team that competed from top to bottom.

The skill level there was pretty darn high, especially looking at a roster with both Tavares and Barzal. But they were fairly directionless.

Frankly, it's almost a little frightening to think of what Trotz would've done with both Tavares and Barzal this season.

Yes he is a great coach - one of the best in NHL at the moment for sure.

The lottery drawing could alter/direct the plan moving forward.

Regardless the Rangers likely can move Namestnikov and Vesey’s salaries to clear space to re-sign Kreider if they decide they want to keep him.

Maybe they only get a 3rd and 4th round pick, respectively, but you clear the salaries and start to turn the roster over with ELC’s in the bottom 6.

You've stated it better than I have, if there is a possible DeBrincat, or Barzal, or whatever in Newhook, Caufield, Kaliyev or some other prospect, and they are on the board, using Kreider even if they have to add to him to take that chance I think is well within reason if they do not believe those high ceiling prospects will be there by their next pick.

I think a mid first and a decent prospect would be appropriate value for one year of Kreider. I know that'll rub some folks the wrong way but that's kind of where I rate him. Arizona's 1st and Fischer, for example, might be a deal that gets it done if a guy the Rangers really like is still there at 14.

We just traded Ryan Spooner for him.

Right now, he's shown promise as a guy who can play on a third line, and bump up to the second and not look out of place. He's coming off a 19 goal, 35 point season. He's never topped 20 goals, and he's hit the 50 point mark once --- four years ago.

I just don't think you're getting a first when guys like Zucc or Grabner weren't bringing them back, and when we look at some of the returns out there. Yes, obviously Strome isn't a rental, and he's younger, but he also doesn't have an in-demand track record behind him either.

He's found a niche here and has become a useful player, but it's not like he popped in 30 goals and 60 points in his time with us either. Now if he can perform like he did for the Rangers over a long enough period of time, that's certainly a possibility.

But there's not really a first-rate market for 26 year old wingers, who haven't topped 20 goals, and who would be heading to their fourth NHL club in two years.

Well the Rangers traded a player (+back up goalie) that skated in mud for a 1st and ADA so it stands to reason that Strome +Hank should bring back a McDavid or Crosby in comparison?

I mean since we're using faulty logic to build up value in players that don't have all that much.

Dave Maloney was talking about De Angelo yesterday in his podcast with Giannone. Tony needs to be babysat constantly. He is not that great of player to have the Rangers coaches constantly worry about his attitude. There is no long-term future with him.

Maloney also discussed Shattenkirk. Kevin needs to hit the gym and lose some weight. No surprise. Stattenkirk looks puffy. Maloney and Shattenkirk have known each other for a long time. Maloney still calls him out. He reported to camp in bad shape in 2017 too. What is Gorton going to do with this guy? He has two years remaining on his contract. Thankfully it's only two years.

Here is the thing about Shattenkirk and Free agency. All of the Rangers fans wanted Shattenkirk and how he was going to transform the Rangers. He was their missing RHD. Shattenkirk and McDonagh would form one of the best D pairings in the NHL. Same thing with Kovalchuk. He was awful this season. The Kings left him home during a road trip and Ilya posted a picture of him eating ice cream with his family while his team was playing on the road. So many Ranger fans wanted that guy too. If there is large group of people wanting a certain player in free agency, buyer beware and stay away.

huh

Kinda hard to get up for games when your arena looks like this. Just sayin’

One thing is sure, if Q goes to Florida there will be some house cleaning.

It’s ridiculous that Florida was as far out of the POs as they were. Something is really rotten there. A knows that he can’t just walk in there and snap his fingers and have a PO team infront of him. There were what, 12 pts behind MTL. They don’t compete. Players don’t do well there.

It was unlikely? I don't think most Islander fans felt that way.

Who cares how their fans felt? The Islanders offered him more money than anyone else could have and he didnt sign. If Trotz or their fans thought he was anything but a long shot to return to the Islanders they were delusional.

Maybe Trotz saw a team that to-date had underachieved.

Since when, 1993? The Islanders had 9 years of Tavares (who was what, a top 10 forward over that period?) and made the playoffs 3 times and won one playoff series. Then their perennial mess of a team lost that guy. Good for them for their improbable run but it was unexpected and I doubt anyone would be surprised if what happened to the Devils this year happens to the Islanders next year.

Tavares would be rocking a 66 point line instead of the 88 he has in Toronto

I would overpay need be.

I think this draft has a lot of potential in the first half of the first round.

While of course I'd rather not see the Rangers have to pay that much, I also think this and next year's draft are going to be the last where they are going to be in position to both have multiple 1st round picks, and have their own being pretty early.

If they have to overpay to attempt to increase the odds, I think they should.

By overpay I mean, if Arizona or any other team which has a pick in that range will not make that trade without, one of the Jets, (or Tampa, Dallas should those be gained) 1st also being included, because they do not want to move completely out of the 1st round, I think the Rangers may as well still do it.

I'd even take back a two year cap dump need be.

Sure the price is high, yet this and next draft I think are what either turns this whole rebuild into an eventual real contender roster or not. Given I put that much importance on it, if they have to overpay by a later 1st to get what could make that difference, I think they should.

I dont know, if the Islanders struggle in the first half (like pretty much everyone expected them to) they probably would have sold off their free agents and be focused on the lottery right now. That is pretty much a rebuilding team. I mean they were basically a rebuilding team last year (with Tavares) who couldn't sell (because of Tavares).

Does this scenario have a pair of journeymen goalies playing like vezina winners? If so then they are probably the 2nd favorite in the East.

I will say this about Trotz, he always seems to get the most out of goalies that most people hadn't previously heard of.

Reading Uncle Larry, I've come to realize that he is to Kevin Hayes what Webster is to Zucc.

Larry's obsession with Kevin Hayes is unlike anything I've seen from him during his tenure as a writer covering the Rangers.

The Rangers don't need Kevin Hayes and I completely agree with you - I just don't get Brooks' harping on this. If Gorton & Co. wanted him, they would've signed him. I'll go directly to jail and not collect the $200 please.

I could see Brooks doing "I told you so" pieces if Hayes had like 30 points in his 20 games since the trade or something. Otherwise why is Hayes still relevant?

Can’t imagine why he would

Arizona was close this season despite spending way below the cap including having a ton of dumped LTIR deals. Their kids are still improving. A year is a long time, if Kreider goes there and plays well and the team does well, I could definitely see him resigning there.

If they got Kreider, I would be surprised if they didn’t make the POs.

Even if Ari has been a mess, they have also had some solid stretches. We have some PHX people here, right? Seems like there is some hockey culture there in a way.

Kevin Hayes isnt special...50 point player who is huge but not physical, offensive but won't shoot enough, and he is probably getting overpaid this summer. We made the right decision. Now it's up to Kreider whether he wants to play with Zibanajad and the Rangers for the next while. He will get the same treatment if his number is too high.

Let's even for argument's sake say that the Rangers hope was to turn Hayes into assets and sign him anyway over the summer. I don't get that vibe, but let's assume that was the plan.

Larry has spent so much time complaining about the team's lack of love for Hayes, that his current claims about a reunion only underscore (at best) the fact that either the Rangers clearly aren't sharing their plans with him, or (at worst) he's compulsively putting words together in the hopes that his shotgun approach eventually proves to hit upon some small nugget of truth.
