Gorton was asked about selling off again next February. He said they would try to avoid another sell off which is why they want to settle Kreider’s situation sooner than later.

Gorton does not have many assets to sell. He is down to less than a handful. He has successfully traded everyone. He has Kreider and that’s it. Zibanejad only if the offer is crazy. Skjei? Maybe if he has a bounce back year. The latter two are signed players. Those would be hockey trades.

Look at the roster. Shattenkirk is fat and out of shape. The Rangers are stuck with him. Two more years of Staal. Every year we discuss retaining money to move him. Good luck. Two more years of Smith. Fast is not bringing much back. Namestnikov is not worth much. Maybe they get a 2nd if he has a better year. Vesey has been a huge disappointment. Everyone and their mother said Jimmy would be a legitimate top 6 forward. Step in and play. I remember Bob McKenzie saying. The Rangers aren’t getting much for him. Strome will be a group II in the summer of 2020. Is he going to shoot 20% again? Lundqvist is not going anywhere without his approval. The Rangers say he went to the ASG which proves he is still Lundqvist. The Rangers also say Lundqvist got burnt out after playing the ASG and that’s why he was bad in the second half. Really? His numbers have been on the decline for a while. He is getting worse and worse every year. The Athletic had him rated as the 20th best goaltender in 17-18 last summer. Where will he be ranked after this season? Lower.

The Rangers asset accumulation part of the rebuild is nearly over. Hopefully Dallas makes the WCF and/or they sign Zuccarello giving them another 1st for 2020. TB wins the Cup.

Move Kreider for a 1st rounder in 19 or 20.

The Rangers will have enough 1st rounders and that’s it.

Have another tough season next season. The Rangers have another top ten pick. A first from Dallas too. The young guys have another full season of development time.

Stop with the Zibanajad isnt a 200 foot player. I dont know what clown started that narrative but it is ridiculous to say the least.

Mika is a 200 foot player. He can play in every situation. Go up against the opposing centers and shut them down. Provide offense. His skating was so good. He would get the puck and would become a threat after one or two long powerful strides. He had a career year. A great year Zibanejad needs to do it again. The top players are top players every season.

I do think the accumulation phase is entering it's final stage over the next year, so a lot of this makes sense.

Kreider is probably the last piece with significant value, that has a decent chance of being moved.

Zibanejad is someone I'm not yet totally ready to rule out, mainly because of contract, the movement clause and his injury history. I'd put the odds at 10 percent, but I wouldn't totally close that door...yet.

But if the Rangers move Kreider, be it for a younger player, or picks, or some combination of the two, I think that's probably the last move of its kind for a while. That's not to say other guys won't be traded, but it's probably the last of the older guard involved in a major trade.

I agree with everything except for Mika not being a 1c. I think this season he’s taken strides to being a 1c. He plays in all situations, power play, penalty kill. He scored 30 goals and had 70 points. And this was on a terrible team that had the fewest ROW. Think about that, he played against the other teams’ top defense night after night and proved he could get the job done. My biggest worry is that his production might drop next year because this year saw a ridiculous increase in scoring through out the league. Other than that, what more can you ask for from the guy.

Let’s see him do it again. There were seasons where Stepan was a #1 center on the Rangers. 1B. He was better than a 2nd line center. He was not amongst the elite centers but he was the top center on the Rangers. Zibanejad has more physical tools than Stepan and is the better player. Mika needs to have another terrific season again. He went from 47 points to 74 this season. He feels he is just getting started in realizing his potential. Have another 74-80 point season next seasons. Don’t drop onto the high 40’s to low 50’s again. The top players are top players every year.

Panarin, Crazy Bob, Quenneville, Tallon drinking mojitos together on the roof top of “The Hotel formerly known as The Gansevoort” above Collins Ave on South Beach - sooner than later. Book it!

His former coach in Chicago. Beautiful weather. No state income taxes. The Panthers will add Bobrovsky. They have a great player in Barkov. We talk about #1 centers here. That guy is an elite #1 center. He should be great for a long while. He will be 24 in September. The owner is going to spend the money.

I won't begrudge anyone having their own standards or definitions, but Zibanejed is a #1 for me because he simply was put into that position and thrived. We saw him he successful playing as a weak team's top center. He put up points, played in all situations, got the job done each zone. Back checked, disrupted passes, got the puck out of the zone with puck control. He wasn't sheltered or given preferential matchups.

As far as Kreider, the only thing I would infer is that if he's traded, it's for an NHL player. Maybe to Carolina for a right d, maybe to Toronto for Nylander, maybe for a previously coveted guy like Keller. I don't see it being a 1st rounder as the main piece. If it happens, it's a Zibanejed trade.

I don't think this is possible unless you're adding to him.

He only has a year left. I can see him returning a CAR 1st in 2019/20+Fox.

I don’t think anyone started that narrative. His play created that narrative. He’s was that with the Sens. It’s only over the last couple of seasons that he’s been a 200 foot player.

Gorton has Kreider, Shattenkirk, Vesey, Fast and Namstnikov to deal between now and next years deadline. None of them should be in the future plan of this organization.

I refuse to believe that there isn't a team out there, like Edmonton, who would love to add a player like Shattenkirk for a small price while off-loading some cap. Remove him from the Rangers equation a year early.

Sam Gagner has 1 year left @ $3.15m
Brandon Manning has 1 year left @ $2.25m

Shattenkirk has 2 years left @ $6.65m

Would Edmonton pay to off-load both of these guys and bring in Shattenkirk in their spot? The Rangers gain that cap space after 1 years time in lieu of (2). Perhaps Gagner can help their AHL team. It opens up a spot on defense for a young player and perhaps the Oilers send over their 2nd rounder this year and next year

Zibanejad blossoming was a hug positive this year. Not only did his on ice play take off, you could see him taking over a leadership role with many of the younger players.

Whatever happens with free agency I’m just glad we definitely won’t have interest in Bob. That contract is going to be a nightmare.

I'll be curious to see what the market is like for Kreider at the draft. I think if he goes, he goes then. Friedman said the price was really high for him, so how much of that was the Rangers wanting to keep him vs trying to extract ad much value as possible?

A first and a young NHLer looks pretty underwhelming at the deadline for Kreider, but on the first day of the draft it's a different story. When the 8th guy on your list is still available and the 16th pick is on the clock and asking for Kreider things can change in a hurry.

One thing is sure, if Q goes to Florida there will be some house cleaning.

It’s ridiculous that Florida was as far out of the POs as they were. Something is really rotten there. A knows that he can’t just walk in there and snap his fingers and have a PO team infront of him. There were what, 12 pts behind MTL. They don’t compete. Players don’t do well there.

I am also OK about trading Strome while his value is high.

We always lose out on top coaches like Quenneville, Trotz, Montgomery, Peters, etc.

What do you possibly think the value of a Strome is? Why not see if he can sustain his play or take another step forward?

When was the last time that you saw Quennville or a Trotz go to a rebuilding team? What do you see in Montgomery or Peters that makes you pine for them over Quinn?
