I would like to keep Vesey and Strome around. I like both players for the 3rd and 4th line th next 3 years. Vesey needs more consistent minutes BUT he also needs to skate every game and bring that edge.

EK is the best player at his position in this generation.

I don't want either, the timing isn'tright but if its one or the other, I'll take the guy who has been better than everyone at his position for most of the decade.

Plus, we have ZERO top pairing D and one guy in the entire organization who has that kind of ceiling.

It's hilarious to me that Panarin gets the "These guys don't come around often!" tag but EK gets glossed over. He's legitimately the type of player who doesn't make it to UFA.
The problem with EK is his injuries. He is not the same player. The ankles are impacting everything else, making him injury-prone and less effective. I would be scared to sign him to a long-term deal.

1. Deal Vesey for anything. Least favorite player in my 28 years following.

2. Walking papers for Brendan Smith. Thanks for trying, but we're done here.

3. Must add a quality Top-4 dman to be a core piece into the K'Andre/Hajek/Nils years.

Vesey ticks me off tremendously. I honestly don't know why.
Where are we getting the quality top-4 Dman? Stralman? Would love him. Who else is out there?
Something has to be done about Shatty. He is just dead weight. Maybe St. Louis would be interested in taking him back (in my dreams....)

This.

Vesey is all he is ever going to be. (Surprise!) He’s also one year away from UFA. He may be helpful in a deal for a defenseman. He has no long term future here.

Smith will be bought out. That would give the Rangers an additional $3MM in cap $ available next year.

Acquiring a top four defenseman is a necessity. Colin Miller perhaps?

Perhaps Staal agrees to move to a contender this summer. I think you would be surprised at the number of teams that would be interested at a 50% discount if he would be interested in going. Shattenkirk, I don’t know. Perhaps.

I’m torn on Kreider. He brings a lot to the organization and his price is fairly well set by the market dynamics. I’m curious what kind of deal they can get for him. It won’t be one draft pick and it sure as hell won’t be a pick in 2020. I’m listening. The market will become better defined after the playoffs. There will be some surprise bidders.

Perhaps the best part of what I read and heard today is that Gorton wants to move the process along. Brooks has clearly done their bidding on Panarin. A Hayes return? That is an intersting twist. With young talent coming, Adam Fox circling in a plane and a candle lit for a lottery win, this could get a lot more interesting sooner rather than later.

why buy out Smith and limit cap space in the years when we might need it?

Smith is versatile can play forward and either defensive position and can also play physical and fight. If anybody is to be bough out it should be Staal.

Gorton knows something we dont...

50% chance it is a bag full of cash

20% chance a gun

10% chance A dirty picture of Gary Bettman

7% chance it is some type of alien technology that can pause and rewind time

2% chance it is a box of expired Lucky Charms that he gets high on.

1% chance it is a suicide bomber's belt.

Vesey, yes definitely trade him. Tired of him already. Once he reached 16/17 goals he basically decides he has done enough, his season ends at 17 goals. 1 point in last 19 games? Maybe he was helping us tank, but he definitely tanked his trade value.

Smith can stay, buy out Staal instead

Why do we need to add a quality top 4 Dman when we are rebuilding and trying to develop our own top 4 Dmen. We need to get rid of Shattenkirk and Staal to make room for kids.

Gorton said pretty much the same thing last season. We have all of these draft picks and I will be a popular guy at the draft. We will look at everything to improve the team. Trades. Free agency.

Who is playing on D?

The Rangers still don't have a #1 center and #1 D. They are going to repeat the same mistakes again.

Bad management decisions are a time-honored tradition for the Rangers. Nothing about bad luck.

I didn't know a 30 goal 70+ point center isnt a #1 center.

Zibanejad might have eclipsed 80-90 points on a stronger team.

If he isnt a #1 center then i dont know who is.

I liked @bobbop idea of Colin Miller. I have always been a fan. Would love to have him.

I like Vesey but if there is a deal that makes sense to include him then do it. If they want to sign Kreider and at least have the flexibility to sign Panarin then they need to move out Vesey and Namestnikov’s salaries. Thats Kreider’s money right there. You can replace those guys with cheaper vets and/or your young kids on ELCs. They have Boo coming back at $700k.

Gorton said Zibanejad had a career year. In the exit meeting, Zibanejad apparently told Gorton and Quinn that he is just scratching the surface of his potential. It took Mika 5 years to serious about his career. He worked hard last summer to get into great shape. In 2017, Mika reported to camp in horrific shape. Shattenkirk and Smith were the other two out of shape big money players.

Let’s see Mika have another terrific season before we appoint him as a #1 center. That’s all.

I agree with everything except for Mika not being a 1c. I think this season he’s taken strides to being a 1c. He plays in all situations, power play, penalty kill. He scored 30 goals and had 70 points. And this was on a terrible team that had the fewest ROW. Think about that, he played against the other teams’ top defense night after night and proved he could get the job done. My biggest worry is that his production might drop next year because this year saw a ridiculous increase in scoring through out the league. Other than that, what more can you ask for from the guy.

Gorton did not give away to much. Understandably. If the process of trading for high picks and prospects continues, surely he has to trade Zibanejad at max value.

Swedish media has Zibanejad not going to the WCH this season. He is injured and it won’t heal in time.

Zibanejad wasn’t taking many face offs at the end of the season. Especially the right wing face offs. Kreider and Buchnevich were taking those face offs. Elbow. Shoulder. Wrist. Something in that area.

Stop with the Zibanajad isnt a 200 foot player. I dont know what clown started that narrative but it is ridiculous to say the least.
