I think Pionk can turn into a solid player. Problem being, we have that style of player coming out of the ears. ADA, Shatty, Lundkvist and soon to be Fox?

They're redundant. We need a McQuaid/Trouba type IMO. A top PKer/stay at home

And yet again...that's just the other general managers doing more harm to their team by not behaving rationally than it is harming the team that gave the offer sheet in the first place. Teams could logically demand more for one of their players because they are angry but they can not make low ball offers to try and acquire a player from you for the same reason as the Fox thing which is that in a free/competitive market you essentially must bid your true value for the asset or someone else will always be able to make a better offer.

I think the response would be that when enough teams are in agreement about their approach to a certain team, it's much easier to make the team using an offer sheet get the message.

I think if one GM took that approach alone, it would probably be more of a pissing contest.

I think if we're talking about double digit numbers of GMs take that approach, it's a different story.

The reason why teams don't offer sheet is because of retaliation. They can easily have a trade discussion and acquire the player if needed instead of the offer sheet route. BOS moved Kessel and Hamilton under those circumstances.

Say you do offer sheet Johnsson or Kapanen. If the Leafs have cap space three years down the line and offer sheet Nils Lundvist and the Rangers can't pay, that messes up how a team operates.

Offer sheets take planning and control away from a GM, and they hate that. NSH and Philly still do business, but Weber's agent actively shopped around before signing the offer sheet.

NSH was well aware of it happening. The Rangers were one of the teams in the Weber sweepstakes at the time. Weber didn't want to play in a "big" city.

I don't know, Philly offer-sheeted a guy widely considered to be a superstar.

Has anyone stopped dealing with the Flyers? Did anyone offer-sheet Giroux or Couturier?
I mean... Nashville has only made one trade with Philly in the 7 years since then, and that was a month ago. They used to trade all the time.

I think Lundkvist can be molded into a good defensive player.

We're in an era where you have to be able to skate and move the puck to shut teams down.

Just about every player eligible for arbitration elects it. If they do so they are not allowed to be offer sheeted.

Those who are not eligible, if the team talks extension with them, they are going to know if their ask is above or below some compensation threshold.

If it's above, they may just take the picks should an offer sheet come in.

If it's below, why are they not just signing that deal themselves and just trading the player during the summer when they have an overage?

If they don't have the cap space even with an overage, why not just tell the player they don't have it, give the player options, sign a bridge, or pick your destinations, give me a list and I'll see if any of them want to trade for you and you can sign that deal there. If not I'm just going to trade you to whoever offers the most.

Teams are not going to offer more than a 2nd round pick to sign or trade for a player to a ~4M contract?

All of them can, besides Shat-man.. It will just take a lot of time, as defenseman typically do.

That's why I like a player Trouba. He's entering that goldilocks zone for defenseman. ( Depending on cost )

or a righty Hajek type. I was going to say McDonagh but those players are like unicorns.

1000000%

... But I'd like to have a competent defender who can do everything required to not suck and have some size/snarl as well. Those guys are almost as rare as the really good offensive RHD.

One reason why Seider intrigues the f*** out of me.

Should the Rangers trade Shattenkirk and be in the market for a low dollar, bigger reclamation project, I'd be okay with them signing a guy like Alex Petrovic. He was serviceable a couple of years ago but injuries really hampered him. Perhaps an off-season of training could get him back to being a 3RD who can PK and provide some snarl on the back-end for a year or so while some of the younger guys cut their teeth and develop.

Seider could be what Sauer was supposed to be before Phaneuf killed him.

But German so he’ll be even more robotic and cold hearted.

Great suggestion, we could really some size at RD.

I was thinking similarly, he had a concussion I think.

I would also look into David Savard, no idea what Columbus does this off-season.

I'd guess Myers ends up on a tough contract.

Bogosian you have mentioned.

Pateryn in a lesser role could may work.

Calgary is going to do something with expansion.

Oh please God no.

He'd be fantastic for tanking purposes, but I hate watching him. He's so bad.

Some idiot is going to give Myers 6M over 5 years at least IMO

f*** that.

Bogosian is basically a more expensive, more broken Mcquaid. No thanks.

I would love to pry a Kylington/Andersson out on Calgary, but I’d guess they move of from Brodie before the expansion draft is an issue.

David Savard is solid. I’d be fine with him. A hypothetical right side of ADA, Savard, Fox sounds good to me.

The Central sweep stakes is also huge for our draft position. Winnipeg will of course be hard to handle in the POs, but they have been a .500 team lately.

Nashville need to gain a point on Winnipeg and STL need 2.

Winnipeg plays two teams that got an extreme amount to play for, Colorado and Arizona. Nashville has easier games against Vancouver and Chicago while STL plays Vancouver and Philly.

If Winnipeg don’t win the Centeal and don’t make it to the WCF their pick will be around 20-24. There is normally a big difference between 20 and like 28-29...

JD probably as good a replacement for Sather as is possible. My only concern is what Brooks suggested- could he be ok with Gorton, or would he insist on bringing in Kekalainen? Even worse...Torts??

People understand the concept of No Move Clauses because they see that Lundqvist controls his fate and I am confident it's not a complicated matter.

So why is Marleau still being brought up daily? He is not going to waive for us. Move on already. If he ever fostered an idea of coming here, it was when we were a contender. It's not happening. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Callahan puts us on his limited NMC list at this point. Maybe he likes the area, but we suck.

The only way I can see this happening is if the Rangers trade for him with the understanding he will be bought out and then re-sign in Toronto for a sweetheart deal. Ala Orpik. The Rangers would need to be compensated accordingly.

Someone has to PK, good or not, and at least he throws some checks, good or not. Plus he'll fight once or twice a season, and usually not do well but who cares.

And there is no way Quinn plays him above ADA, or Fox for that matter so they are safe there too.

True, if that is what it takes to sign I want no part.

Partially true, yet if it's cap dump for cap dump plus sweetener it could still make sense.

Partially true, yet something has to happen there, Calgary has way too many defenders.

True, I like Savard as an opposite type of player to ADA/Fox if that is who else ends up on the right side.
