I want an analytics enthusiast for our next President. People will not like it, and the coach might not like it, but like any other organization you must adapt or die. The league is moving towards advanced stats whether you like it or not, we need a smart progressive thinker who will help us complete our rebuild the right way to make us a team of the future.

Chyka is apparently heavily analytical, they’re still crap.

They were a borderline playoff team all year despite having an absurd number of injuries.

They got:

12 games from Raanta
52 from Chychrun
39 from Grabner
17 from Schmaltz
33 from Demers
18 from Dvorak

And a bunch of other less long term injuries like Stepan, Richardson, etc.

Why do we think Gorton isn't very much into analytics?

A scout told me yesterday that he did not consider this years draft having any sure shot “franchise players “. Next year might have “two or even more” he thought. He mentioned that it is not imperative to have a top 3 pick any year to get elite talent, it is getting it the “right year” that counts. Not any news, but interesting if we really tank next season.
Lafreniere and Lundell are definitely looking like franchise players. Byfield has looked impressive in his D-2 season, but I haven't seen any game tape on him. How much of his productivity is based on his size and just being bigger and stronger than a lot of the other players?

Chris Kreider is what he is. He missed a few games recently with back and hip issues. He had a hamstring injury earlier. He is invisible. He has 1 goal in his last 15 games. That was an empty net goal against the Blues. You have to look very carefully to see if he is playing. He had 20 goals at the New Year. You would have thought he would get at least 35 because he was pace for 40 plus goals. He has 7 goals since December 30.

Was going to post something exactly like this. Was at the game last night, and he was invisible. He's missing that 2nd gear that seemed to open the opportunities for him earlier in the year. I'm hoping it's nothing that requires off-season surgery and he just needs a good rest in the summer to come back strong. I also wouldn't be opposed to trading him at the draft for the right offer, which sucks considering he's one of my favorite players on the team. But he's not getting any younger and I am not sure he's a part of the long term plan here.

Cmon. All the years of “rebuilding” and the big accomplishment is almost making the playoffs. Those Strome and Domi deals aren’t looking great for them either. Either way I don’t want to get sidetracked. I think analytics are a great tool but I don’t think they should be the driving force in management.

agreed.

hes a very thoughtful sensitive guy by all accounts and the team was gutted. hayes and Zucc both gone and since, CK has been awful. invisible and awful while mika has taken the next step.

i believe if theres an offer on draft day, hes gone.

JG aint gonna wait 3-5 yrs. if he can make the team better, he will and CK is his next best chip.

he said players and picks and everything is on the table.

i could see this team starting camp next fall without CK.

What duties will the new President have? Organizational duties, and overseeing Gorton.

Isn’t it a bit backwards to have an anyltic dude there? ;)

I hope so honestly. Unfortunately he’s a guy who never met his physical potential. He’s also showing you how invisible he is without that extra gear to blow past people. If he loses a step in his next contract this is the guy you’ll be tied to with a long term contract. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Yeah, Raymond is sick. Lafreniere got that special aura around him, reminds me a bit of Tavares in that sense. Stuff just seem to be a little easier for him. How good is Holtz? OTOH, I think next year will be a bit weak for the US kids.

The US kids are great this year. There are maybe no real wunderkid, but Hughes engine and dynamic offensive game is still top notch. I like him better than Hischer, Patrick, Svechnikov and Zadina.

The Swedish and Finnish group next year is insane. Weak for the Americans yes. Excellent year for Canadian kids too.

Lafreniere is one of those guys who seems to see the game in slow motion. His hand-eye coordination is just sick, and he's the type of player who feels like an instant threat the second he's within spitting distance of the puck.

Slippery as hell and the puck and his stick are like magnets. I've seen very few players who can control the puck the way he does --- open ice, in traffic, tight spaces, in close, behind him, weird bounces, etc.

It is rather convenient to overlook that he has been playing hurt for quite a while.

I would love to have had a more engaged Kreider the last few years like we watched from Tkachuk last night . Kreider has all the assets to be a more asserted type and thus able to make more things happen but he seldom does any of that . He hardly ever gets involved in scrums and very rarely does he play mad . He always attempts to play a more skilled game and he simply does not have the hands and mind to be good at that . We will never change his DNA at this point...he is what we see . Time to move on ....find that next Tkachuk type in the draft in the next two seasons....

The strength of the 2020 draft is another reason I don't see the Rangers in that much of a hurry to "accelerate the rebuild" or whatever. Finish bottom 5 and you're almost assured a franchise player.

Byfield is an absolute beaut.

Byfield is the guy I want

Dude is gonna be insane. He’s a full year younger than Lafreniere.

Yeah, it's always not even close in favor of the guy facing easier opponents. Prospects 95% of the time collapse in HF value after they leave the Juniors for the AHL, then lose more value after leaving the AHL for the NHL.

If you cant see how Chytil has top-6, even first line potential, you're just not good at evaluating talent, only see how a player does today against current opposition. ...

You could've just stopped here.
