Also I like Kravstov but he’s not a legit asset at this point. He’s bordering on a throw in sweetener to a larger deal. I think the Rangers would be lucky to get the Lias Andersson deal for him right now, and that’s if a team was really in love with him

Petterson has been a little jeckyll and hyde. What do you think is a fair offer? I dont think we should be trading Lafreniere or Kakko anywhere. So who then? Miller? Schneider? What is the starting point? I think Nils, Kravtsov, and a 1st is a good foundation.

I'm not crazy about Pettersson so sure that's a fine offer, I just highly doubt it does anything for Vancouver. They have no reason to trade him unless its for something substantial and that offer aint it

Kravtsov likely is getting dealt for a rental because thats his value. Im sure that will be met with some measured takes on HF when it inevitably happens

So I want to clarify something that you may be missing about his skillset. Laf has alot of comparables to crosby in his playstyle, (not saying he's the next crosby) but he is essentially an "elite grinder"

I was referring less to his playing style and more to his role. He's hasn't been shooting for three months. By point of comparison, Crosby only has three games without a SOG this season. He has 24 games with at least 2+ shots (including 16 games with 3+ SOG). Crosby grinds but not AS a grinder. Laf is playing as if his primary job it to keep the other team occupied long enough for Zib/Bread/Kreider/Strome to get a breather. He needs to start seeing himself as the player who can be the engine for a 3rd scoring line--a difference maker. When he plays like that, he's put up 9 points in 13 games (a respectable 57 point pace, all at even strength, which would be elite production).

Vancouver is interesting because Rutherford is in charge and he’s an old idiot. But he’s surrounding himself with people that probably aren’t idiots

Guess we’ll see how things shake out

And Columbus stinks, JD is gonna have to tear it down to the studs and start over. Laine, Domi and a few others will be gone in the next 3-6 months

Its crazy how every non-playoff team in the Metro is an unmitigated disaster right now. Even Washington is finally showing some cracks

Hes shown better finishing ability in 97 career games than Kakko or Chytil have in their 3 & 5 years in the NHL respectively. Its part of the reason i think the concern about him is overblown
I’m not bothered that he’s not tearing up the league right now, it’s the fact that he’s not busting his ass out there forechecking, hitting or shooting like he’s a dominant player. If I’m from South America and watching him play, one question I might have is “ was he a 4th round pick “?

I am not the biggest Lafreniere fan, but the only two assets on Vancouver that I am even considering moving him for are Pettersson and Hughes. Nothing else even starts the conversation. And you have to consider salaries too. Woof

yuck basically 2 months until deadline still.

Yeah its brutal. I want them to make a move sooner than later, but so many of the teams we projected as sellers are very much in the mix for the playoffs. Ducks, Sharks, Stars, Red Wings (although tonight im sure was a reality check). Only the true bottom feeders seem open for business right now.

????

The Rangers can only give out the powerplay time that they get.
But so much more PP time definitely equals more points. I wasn't accusing the Rangers of allotting less PP times. It has been fine in that comparison. But getting 4x and 5x more PP time will naturally yield more points.

Such a weird scenario. Laff comes across happy and goofy all the time and the team seems like they're ok with his progression. You don't hear a word of concern or consternation leaked to the media. Crazy.
Because you can see the natural talent that Laf has. He has a tremendous wrist shot, good hockey IQ, plays a tough game and can throw the body, doesn't get down on himself or sulk ever, takes assignments as he gets them, is good in the locker room, and by all accounts because of all the aforementioned he is likely good in practice and with the coaches.

Despite the lackluster bottom line point numbers, all other signs point towards a kid who is going to develop into a very good player.

Gallant said today that he didn't see playing Laffy less minutes as detrimental to his development. There are a lot of ways he could have answered/angled on this question, but when he said he thinks 8 minutes is the same as 12 minutes and 15 minutes of icetime, that is absolute horseshit. A 50% decrease in ice time vs the top players is obviously going to detriment his growth. You don't get into the flow of the game the same way and on a season, if he's missing 4-5 minutes a game, it's easy to extrapolate how much time he's missing vs other rookies on a season. I know there is no easy answer, as the 2 LW's ahead of him are: 1. the leagues leading goal scorer, 2. Artemi Panarin...but Gallant has to answer that question better.
David Quinn was here because a pro on his resume was his media personality. Gallant does not have that, he was brought here with other pro reasons. I'll take Gallant.

This. He has talent/control. But he left twice. He’s more of a gamble to a new team then a sure thing. No one is trading a high end asset for a prospect who is known to leave when he doesn’t like bad news

Just late-night speculation but could we see Winnipeg as a surprise seller? They are 5 points out of a playoff spot with 3 teams to jump and only 2 points ahead of Chicago. Their head coach already jumped ship under somewhat odd reasons too. Copp & Stastny could both help as rentals, but the real get would be Dubois. Something to watch I guess

Rangers had back and forth with Arizona and made their competitive offer. They didn't want to include the top tier prospect to headline it that Arizona wanted so it was reported that the Rangers are out. It is more likely a "call us back if you don't find that top tier piece you like" kind of 'out.'

Now it is reported that the Kings are out too. Lundell was never realistic from Florida. Boston reported in there... I must have missed what prospects that they have that are better than Lundkvist + Kravstov? Carolina is floating around, and outside of Jarvis they absolutely do not beat our secondary tier prospects. Would Carolina include Jarvis in a go for it kind of move? Does Carolina even need to do that with them force-feeding Deangelo nearly 4 mins of PP time and 63% offensive zone starts? Pesce, Slavin, Skjei are their guys getting the main top D minutes.

So, Arizona effectively scared away the teams with the 2 best prospect pools that were interested in us and LA. They wanted big game hunting with Lundell and are not gonna get it. Now maybe hoping for Jarvis but I feel like that is unlikely with the way that team is built. Boston lingering around in rumors probably just because they are a big market name, clearly going for any good rental they can, and probably calling everyone non-stop. Boston's prospect pool doesn't move anyone's needle, they'll end up paying a 2nd+ for Kessel or something.

This could bode well for us if Arizona does indeed circle back to accept a broader package.

The fans on here want to sell desperately.

Their management might be thinking differently. They were buyer-avoidance under Chevy for years and squandered their best chances. By the time they actually bought rental players they screwed it. The West being a cluster of crap after the trio of Colorado, Nashville for now, and eventually Vegas makes it all even more murky when it comes to competing for a playoff spot. Playing in that god awful Canadian only division last year probably gave them more hope to be a top team than they deserved to think. They are stuck in limbo over there.

I really hope Chytil is back for Friday. We need as many regulars as possible. I swear if we lose on Hanks night that would be a disgrace to the man!

As it is, Gauthier on the top line is terrible. Can you please force the coach's hand to play up there Laf?
