Teams would bend us over backwards if we tried to trade Binnington at the draft, because they know we can't afford him at 3 mil. We also can't afford to retain 1.5 mil on his contract for 5 years.

On top of that, we're giving up a top 4 dman, a dman that we need going into the playoffs, for a 1st round pick and a prospect? When did we become sellers?

Has Bern hacked your account?
HaHa. No Bern. Just feel Lindgren has peeked. Gallant would rather play 7 defensemen then start Barron.
If Binnington regains his game under Benoit Allaire he would be worth the 3 million in the short term and then could be traded later. 2023 or 2024 deadline.
Also we would have the extra first to package with a deal for Chychrun.
Just spitballing.

Thats three teams (Tampa, Florida, Calgary) I see going for broke this year. Colorado will be the fourth and Carolina will also be there.

We are not ready to play in that league.

Yet.
This x1000.

Its fine to make upgrades like Vatrano, but no sense in emptying the cupboard now. Needs to continue to be slow and methodical.

Gotta bring in the right young players to add to the core for 1-3 years down the road when this team should really be hitting its stride

Dave Maloney was on the NY Post Rangers podcast with Mollie Walker and Ron Duguay. Maloney said playoff experience is important and it matters. Some teams need to lose 2 or 3 times in the playoffs before figuring out what it takes to win. Teams coming out of a rebuild don't win without losing in the playoffs. He said his first playoff experience in 1978 was important for that Rangers team. They lost to Buffalo in the first round. The next season the Rangers went to the Cup finals. Maloney said he wished management had left the team alone after that season.

Drury isn't going to actively make the team worse by trading Lindgren. If he gets traded (which I doubt) it would be in the offseason. And the Binnington thing is a risk not worth taking.

Can't wat til Hagel regresses to 15-20-35 and no D to fall back on
Tampa wants him because he's an effective forechecker with a scoring touch who plays with pace and can step him and bring some of what they lost in Coleman, Gourde and Goodrow. Him being a 1.5m caphit for a capped out team makes him very much worth it to them, even if he regresses to 15-20-35 in each of the next two season.

That hack doesn’t know anything. What do the spreadsheets say?

32 Toughts podcast deadline edition dropped.

Rangers segment:

  • Likes the Vatrano move
  • Looking for a LHD
  • Made a pitch for Radulov
  • Looking at players that do not impact their cap next season
Very short segment about them. No "splash" move that was rumored earlier in the approach to the deadline. Looks like depth moves and nothing that impacts the team beyond this year. No player mentioned besides Radulov.

No specific player mentioned because they have no idea what the Rangers are doing. Just like they had no idea about Vatrano before it happened. Like none. Rangers run a tight ship with this type of stuff. Yeah, they may be interested in a Radulov or a Kessel, but there is definitely other conversations being had. We’ll see what happens. I do agree with being careful about who they bring in if they have term past this season.

For what’s left of this year the Rangers biggest need is depth. We can say sayonara to Strome in the summer but for now the first two lines are not bad at all. We have top end talent in Mika and Artemi and Kreider has a shot at a 50 goal season. Losing Blais really hurt our depth and he would have been a good guy to have in the postseason. Adding Vatrano should help but the Rangers could use another middle 6 forward along with getting Kakko and Rooney back.

As far as defense we’re in better shape but another steady vet wouldn’t hurt to our bottom 6. I like that the group now all are guys you can throw out on your PK if you need to. Nobody really has to be sheltered. If you go beyond those 6 though they’re not so trustworthy at least yet. Fox is just elite. I’m not crazy about Lindgren as his partner. They have chemistry but I’d rather a bigger, tougher partner riding shotgun because Fox is getting targeted more and more and though Lindgren can be pretty combative I don’t think it’s enough.

Sheshterkin is arguably he best goalie in the league right now.

The Rangers have a number of top end players and a goalie capable of being lights out. If we can get our third line contributing more it will make it a lot easier for the top two lines. That’s a key for us becoming a better team.
