Panarin and Bob would be a good injection of excitement for Florida, they'd definitely create buzz around the team and get more people in the seats at home. Though I still think those signings make them a wildcard at best because I don't see them being better than Toronto, Boston or TB next year. But just making the playoffs seems like a big achievement for Florida with their franchise history the way it is. I'm just not sure about Bobrovsky's playoff resume. Free agent starting goalie signings can be tricky in general...Belfour the exception?

Barkov or Huberdeau will eventually have these records but right now Radek Dvorak leads all Florida draft picks in NHL career goals, assists and points. That's 25 years of drafting. A few really disappointing first round picks--Shvidki, Olesz, McArdle, Howden and Ellerby to name a few.

not sure how that helps anything though
Could get a supremely worthless guy with a year left on his deal instead of two.
Could get a better guy with three years left on his deal instead of two.

There are trades other than straight salary dumps for 4th round picks.

I agree. But it is an interesting fact.

The Rangers have 3 immovable contracts on defense.

All 3 have signing bonuses in the final year of their contracts, after which they make significantly less than their cap hits. Shattenkirk provides the biggest savings with a 2 mil salary and a 6.65 mil cap hit.

I'm sure at least one of them can be traded next summer to a cap floor team.

OK then smarty... What's the solution? $12M for EK? Gardiner for $8M on the top pairing?

There is no magic trade that suddenly bolsters this defense from bad to amazing in one fell swoop.
No, clearly not the solution. But no need to trade assets for a perennially hurt player and thrust him into a role that he has up to now, not been used in. That's NOT the solution. Keep drafting and amassing assets and wait for the 3 S's (Shattenkirk, Smith, Staal) to move on or retire..

I would also think that the solution would be not to bank on Rykov to be a top line defenseman and to see what Lingren is or isn't.

Okay, so let me amend that.

Immovable for now.

Or at least mostly immovable.

Or maybe even just movably challenged.

Draft more Defenders.

Look for the Montour type trades.

Find another ADA like player and live with any quirks.

Take some draft chances on the Merkley types

Make a deal with Calgary, or any other team once they realize they can't protect all of their D in expansion.

Wait for Fox to become a UFA

Rykov on the top pairing reminds me of those heady summer days when Berezgalov was the Rangers 2nd pairing RD for the next decade

Definitely reasonable but there were barely any posters who saw Bereglazov with their own eyes. Rykov is not Bereglazov but this is for another time.
The main point of my post was a) to show Trouba as 1RD, b) Skjei and Pionk were moved to bring Trouba and c) Staal was not Trouba's LD.

Hope this doesn't mean he's boutta get involved like he is with the Knicks. Seems like they're gonna keep most of their picks tho which is good

Dolan trusts Slats to do his thing, who trusts Gorton to do his.

Would have to imagine Dolan would have minimal input. Honestly I’m even surprised he knew how much cap space they’d have.

That said every Ranger fan should be praying Dolan doesn’t sell the Knicks and Rangers. Guy is the perfect owner for this team. Literally signs the checks and meddles almost never

I trust Gorton. He has done a good job of getting assets to start this rebuild
