Carolina is a better team than the Rangers, I think we all see that, the people that don't see that, are either blind or homers.
I think what we saw last night was a Rangers team that wasn't equipped to play a team of that quality and style.
Rangers are a perimeter team, they don't attack the front of the net, looking for rebounds, deflections, screens, etc...we're a rush team, looking for pretty goals, that's why we're a one and done team. That style is easy to defend and doesn't create sustained offensive pressure, tiring the other teams defense and allowing for secondary chances. Look at Carolina's top players, Aho, Shev, Teravainen, etc...these guys go to the front of the net along with the rest of the team, creating havoc and spending most of their shifts in the offensive zone. Look at us, Panarin is averse to going in the slot area, so is Strome, Mika...the only ones are maybe Kreider, Goodrow and the fourth line that consistently goes there (Blais would have been another guy). That's it. That's why our 5V5 stats are terrible!
Actually they do attack the front of the net. Kakko and Laf are going to the front of the net but... there are no pucks coming their way. Kakko's entire offensive game currently in to o-zone is the play the puck up to the D and go wrestle with a defenseman in front of the net. The problem is the D (and other forwards) don't shoot for whatever reasons. The Rangers get the puck up to the D go to the net and then nothing happens... the movement is too slow, the D have a forechecker taking away the lanes so the puck ends up being played into a corner again.
The Ranger D are not good at getting shots through traffic, not even Fox. The Canes did that well enough, their D walked the line OR they had no pressure so they had time to pick their shots. That's the difference.
