Depends on what makes sense to you.

They probably want to get Nils a game and Gallant doesn’t want to pair two undersized rookies together. So Jones (possibly temporarily) goes to taxi.

If this means anything long term, it might be as we have suspected that the rangers think they can only keep one of Jones/Nils not both

Jones, while not great defensively, can at least contribute in an offensive way. Hájek can barely tie his skate laces together.

The main focus for a defenseman is the ability to clear the zone. Whether by skating it out, or just clearing the puck.

Jones and Lundkvist at least do that, unlike the 3 pylons. I really don't care if Hájek, Nemeth or Tinordi is 4 inches taller. If you're too slow to catch your opponent, what are you going to do with that size? Also, Jones and Lundkvist are part of this team's future unlike the other 3. All this talk about developing this, developing that and we're still trotting out 3 guys who get walked by Brett Howden.

Everyone is freaking out about Tinordi but this is not uncommon. Declining veterans have been given opportunities in all major sports for decades and decades. It's very rare when a vet plays like half a season and is just waived and it has happened here a few times with Patrick Rissmiller and Donald Brashear. Taylor Pyatt and Aron Asham didn't last very long in their second season which was AV's first.

Gallant also had him and knows him before.

This fanbase is forever PTSD'd from the dark ages and anytime an average to below average veteran is playing over a shiny new prospect after game five, it's time to get out the eyeliner, put on the Dashboard Confessional, and bring up Middleton, Ridley/Miller, Zubov, Norstrom and the Jessiman/McLirath/Andersson picks.

The bottom pair will get to where it needs to be soon.

Well, they didn't "have to" but yeah. Jones being waiver exempt is the main reason why it's him and not the pylon who played with him last night. Drury still holding out hope that there's some value there with Hájek

In 24 games, Lundkvist has 0 penalty minutes. For a defenseman that is pretty impressive

I am really hoping Barron steps in to the lineup and solidifies the bottom 6 temporarily. If he can be another Rooney/Goodrow type, that would be huge. Chytil/Gauthier/Hunt/McKegg being total zeroes, the bottom 6 needs a different look.

Also good to hear Gallant is considering Laf on RW. The best thing for the team is to have Laf/Kakko playing top 6 minutes.

Not even gonna touch the 3rd pair situation. Its a clusterf***

Time for Barron to pass McKegg. And hopefully after a rest, or sometime soon, at least, Jones cements a spot in the lineup.

Would anyone have an issue with brining back Derek Stepan on a 1 year deal if the Hurricanes let him walk this summer. Trade Chytil for an upgrade for the playoffs. Stepan has the same amount of goals as Chytil, better on faceoffs and at this point in his career, won’t be expensive.
