One of Stephenson or Karlsson will have to go. I can't see Patrick on the 4th line. I wouldn't mind going for either.
I think they’d like to keep Stephenson. Problem is that Karlsson line is their best most consistent unit with Jam/Smith. I don’t think they want to break that up.
Now, if you put Eichel/Stone -Patches maybe??
Dropping Stephenson to 3rd line and decreasing his minutes seems like a waste.
I still think they will try and move cap to resign Smith at the years end as well.... people just don’t understand how important he is for them

The problem with TDL deals is that hockey is such a fast game, especially at 5 on 5, that chemistry is crucial. You can't just insert a guy on a new team and new line with no practice time and expect it to gel for the playoffs. It just doesn't work that way. Fans see the stats and just wish it into their own team. Sure, occasionally guys have instant chemistry or have played together before previously, but that's usually reserved for special players who are known for making their linemates better, rather than middling top 6ers or bottom 6 guys in the midst of good seasons who can be had at a pretty fair price. On the PP you can see impacts quicker because the game slows down, but we're pretty set for the PP...

For folks who know the CBA better than I do--is there a mechanism that would allow the team to send Chytil to the AHL for a stretch without waivers? One of those nebulous "conditioning assignments" or something? Kid needs minutes desperately, and needs to get out of his own head. He was making significant forward strides for three straight seasons and then just fell off a cliff this year. Honestly, I'd love to send Chytil, Laf, and Kakko down together to be the first line, 20+ minutes per night, in Hartford for a couple three weeks and then bring them back up together with some chemistry and some confidence. All three of them could use it and it's not like any of the three are contributing all that much to the NHL team at the moment.
Conditioning loans would be the only way. CBA doesn't say much about what are valid reasons for conditioning loans, but it's usually used for guys who are healthy scratches almost every game.

I don't see how that would work. NYR would be giving the lesser than/equal player. You gotta add more, and you know JD is going to be asking for Schneider with the way he reacted during the draft.

i could see NYR adding but picks only

Domi and Korpisalo are ufa
Columbus can keep Georgiev and Chytil
Maybe Reuananen makes it into their top 6
Rangers only get Roslovic longer term

Who replaces them?

3rd line of Goodrow/Barron/Hunt.

Give Pajuniemi a run with Kreider/Zib. Play Gaut with Bread and Strome.

When the trio come back up, commit to playing them meaningful minutes (15+ TOI/G) as the 3rd line. Put Goodrow with Kreider/Zib (assuming that Pajuniemi isn't quite ready) and Barron with Bread/Strome. Hunt and Gaut to the 4th line (or, in the case of the latter, down to Hartford for his own confidence stint). We could also pull the trigger on an rental to fill one of those top two wing spots. At this point, just about anyone would be better. Laf refuses to shoot the puck, and Kakko/Chytil look completely lost (though Chytil at least shoots the puck, though his selection has been poor this year). There are options.

Seems like a lot of paperwork.

Georgiev
For
Finnish Freebie Keeper + their 2nd

Edmontons 2nd, Henriksson and Hajek för Zadina

Chytil, Reuanen for Tie Domis kid

Gauthier plus a small add för Buffalos Miller

A lower tier pick för a good depth banger Guy last second at the TDL

Resign Ströme??? Biggest offseason decision.
If not - maybe Kravtsov for Vilardi in the offseason? Perhaps adding Nils or Jones and even a pick för something reał nice (C)?
Unload Nemeth
Ease the new talent in succesively
Sign UFA bargain bin goalie and depth fwd
Should fit capwise. Barely.
K2 offersheet is a posssibility though

My brother his "occupation" says it all. It's not worth engaging, but the Eric Staal trade here is very similar to this hypothetical Giroux trade.
Eric Staal said he'd only be traded to the Rangers because his brother played here and Carolina had only just entered our division and are not rivals with the Rangers like the Flyers are.

So unless Giroux got a brother playing for this team and somehow 50 years of animosity gets erased, it's not the same.

I really like the idea of Miller but only if NYR can shed Nemeth, because I could see GG running Nemeth-Miller on the third pair over playing 1 of Jones or Lundkvist.

h

I'd be all over that Zadina move, but I don't see what Max Domi does for us.

He's primarily a LW now, no? Plus he's RFA after this season. I'm not against moving Chytil, but not in a move for Domi.

The way i look at it, we need a 3c, and im not sure if barron is the answer for a team looking to contend.

panarin-strome-kakko
Laf-zib-kreider
Goodrow- xxxx - chytil
Hunt-rooney-reaves

A good 3c will allow chytil to move to wing where he should be more effective. Kakko needs to go back to panarin line. Laf needs to be in top 6 with actual good skaters.

still not in love with that 4th line. Maybe barron to play C or LW on it? Has barron played LW at all?

for defense….

Just role with jones-lundkvist for most nights on third pairing. Maybe on heavier teams thrown nemeth or hajek in for Jones.

keep Georgy this year unless Edm gets desperate. We need a solid backup.

How does keeping Georgie fill our need for a solid backup? He’s an RFA this year- you think he doesn’t expect a raise? You want to give him a raise? Is Georgie even a $2.5m goalie?

Yikes. Smith was a tough player, but out of his weight class on that one. He had no business dropping with Tie.

How did he break his leg there? His plug was pulled from the hit and the leg snapped when the muscles didn’t support it?

It looked to me like a bad balance shift and his leg snapped. The play-by-play said he thought the punch connected only on Smith’s way down. Looks like a freak accident, unless Domi yanked him so hard his leg snapped.

Evaluate Strome in the POs. Does he deliver? If we aren’t a strong contender with him, we should let him walk.

In the summer:
Georgiev and Nemeth 1m retained for Kailer Yamamoto

Kailer Yamamoto and Nils Lundkvist to MTL for Cole Caufield

Chytil, our 22’ 1st and our 22’ 2nd for Yanni Gourde at 50%

Panarin-Barron-Caufield
Goodrow-Gourde-Kakko
Reeves/Hunt-Rooney-Blais
