I dunno, having seen both Hughes and Kakko play for a few years, I don't really see it as being that close.

Kakko is an excellent player, but Hughes (to this point) has typically been a noticeable level up from him.

One of the things that's often lost on these boards when talking about Hughes is that he's not as physically far along as Kakko or some other prospects. While some people view that as a concern, or a knock, I tend to view it just the opposite.

If Hughes is this good now, compared to his competition, that makes for a hell of a possibility in a few years when he's more physically mature and older.

Hughes is clearly the best player in 2019, to say nothing about 3 or 5 years down the line --- which is a big part of what you're looking for anyway when drafting (and something a lot of fans miss when looking at prospects).
Great points Edge.

Not at all comparing Hughes to Crosby in terms of talent level, BUT Crosby was just as physically developed as Hughes is now. Hughes will fill out

I saw Hughes in person last year and he was off the charts good. I would be sad if the Rangers had the opportunity to draft him and passed. He's small for sure but he flies and was always around the puck, never stopped moving. And if he didn't have the puck, it somehow seemed to find him. Electric.

Here's my prediction:

If we pick 1st: Kakko
If we pick 2nd: Whoever is left between Kakko/Hughes
If we pick 3rd: Podkolzin
If we don't win the lottery, and pick around 8-11: Dorofeyev

I really think Dorofeyev is on the Rangers radar
Im with you Kreidermaster . Sounds about right and I really woukd prefer Kakko myself, but whatever. I suppose you cannot lose with any of those 3.

But in regard to Dorofeyev.......we really need to think about poor Sam Rosen......he has enough problems even pronouncing Georgiev. He needs to retire soon anyway.
And if Columbus loses Bob and Panarin, maybe JD will be available. :sarcasm:

There's almost no question in my mind that they wouldn't pass on him - a #1 American center with star potential. It's not happening.

I think it would

Ottawa is gonna screw ip the deadline for sellers if they purge their 3 UFAs
If they do......they will be in NHL purgatory for many many years. They think they will resurrect quicker than Edmonton or Buffalo? Who in the hell would want to play there?

But yeah, I am thinking very selfishly here. Wish them well. Well, at least 1 pt higher than us, but not happening.

Hayes to Dallas for 2019 1st+Robertson or D'Lesperance

Robertson is probably a pipe dream, but Dallas ownership/Nill are probably desperate enough to fill out their shitty depth. Hayes immediately becomes their 2C.

Getting Robertson would be unbelievable, his stock is pretty high right now I'm not sure they want him on the table. Gurianov makes more sense.

6. Kevin Hayes, Rangers – There is a perception out there that the market on Hayes is a bit quiet right now and that may have everything to do with some of the bigger names out there adding uncertainty. Even so, there are multiple teams that are legitimately interested in Hayes, it just might take a Duchene or Stone trade to happen first to get to the finish line.

9. Mats Zuccarello, Rangers – Zuccarello had a big January (13 points in 11 games) and followed it up with a strong start to February with seven points through six games. As a result, interest here is strong and it’s realistic that the Rangers get a similar return for Zuccarello that they did on Michael Grabner last year when they sent Grabner to the Devils for a second-round pick and 20-year-old defenseman Yegor Rykov.

Panarin is #1. One executive thinks Panarin will sign with the Kings this summer. Another executive thinks Jarmo will trade Panarin and flip the return for immediate help.

Stone is 2nd. Duchene is 3rd. The people Custance spoke to for the story think he should stay in Ottawa. Simmonds is 4th. 5 teams with serious interest and 5 kicking tires. Bob is 5th. 7th is Hoffman. 8th is Nyqvist. 10th is Tolvanen.

So Anyone think Staal would waive this year to a contender ?
For Marc's sake, I would hope he would. He really would help a contender and being a steadying force on 3rd pair, or even on a 2nd pair depending. Despite all of the haters, Marc really has had a much better season this year.

The reason why I DON'T think he would.......is because Hank didn't bail, and would make him look like he's jumping ship.

So, with all these players available........who goes 1st, and more importantly......who sets the bar? Gonna be crazy, and having at least 3-4 possible players with numerous offers, one would think/hope that at least ONE deal is done a couple of days before the deadline.
Probably McQuaid
Then Zuccha
Then Hayes

But thats the consensus already, right?

I have a feeling 1 of Vesey, Strome or Shatty will be gone.

Craig, why is Krieder no longer on this list? Is it because he's not going to be moved?

@Benjamin M. Not necessarily. Just trying to mix things up and move in some new names with some updates.

What a dumb explanation.

Can someone explain to me why Simmonds seems to be valued over Hayes or Zucc? He's not the same player he used to be.
From the article:

"It wasn’t lost on Eastern Conference contenders how much the Capitals were able to use their muscle to advance through the playoffs last spring en route to a Stanley Cup. For teams with aspirations of a long playoff run, Simmonds remains a priority."

When the Capitals lose in the playoffs, it's their skill. When they win, it's their size.

Duchene signing in Ottawa would be huge for us.

Simmonds is so overrated, word is that he may stay in Philly, or at least thats what LeBrun was saying yesterday.

Dumb. Yes. But I like it when dumb answers expose bedrock truths. In this case, the truth is that recycling content so it seems "new and fresh" to the audience is paramount over a realistic view of whats happening.

Simmonds relies heavily on PP production and is not very good defensively. If a team wants to pay top dollar for him as a rental, so be it, will only be better for us with the return of Zucc and Hayes.
