That Nashville game was a good template for us. And if not for a few posts it couldve been a big score.
I was watching the Leafs-Blackhawks game last night, and even though their both losing teams, those players were clearly playing with some wounded pride and it was a really hard fought game. Watching them each fight to gain the line with possession, and watching players off the puck battle for space for stick position, if the puck went the other way there was no hesitation--guys were booking it back up ice.
Way too often--particularly with our 'skill' guys--that intensity, seeing yourself as vital and seeing every moment you're on ice as a moment demanding your full effort and attention.. it's just not there with this team.
There was a play last game where zibanejad came down the right wing on a partial break, shot the puck short side and just drifted to the corner. He then stood there and watched the puck get controlled by Calgary and start to go up ice, and it was already at the blue line by the time he decided to move his feet again and start following it.
We don't have the speed at forward that some other teams do. But if we have the depth now to roll four lines that won't kill us, there's no excuse for saving it for later or trying to take long shifts. Watching that game last night made me really disappointed with our team. I hope they start to compete harder soon.
