You can't make a handshake agreement with your own players either. No agreements between players and teams are allowed except written ones. Expressing interest might be ok, but saying that you plan on it really isn't.
 
I’m gonna channel Bern for my complete rebuild:

Trade:
Zucc 50% ret and a 5th to SJ for a 2nd and Labanc
Hayes 50% ret to Dal for a 1st/Robertson and 2020 conditional 4th
Names no ret to Bos for a 3rd and Bjork
Shatty to TBL for Callahan (buy out)/Raddysh and a 2020 4th
Vesey to Mon for a 2020 2nd and Evans
Strome to MIN for a 3rd
McQuaid 50% ret to Tor for a 4th and Bracco
Smith for a 7th, retain 870k (20%)

2019 draft: 1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3,4,6, 7
Package 2x2 for a 1st and 2x3 for a 2nd for:
1,1,1,2,2,3,4,6, 7

Sign EK for 11mil and Stone for 9mil:

Stone Ziba Krat
Kreider Chytil Buch
Labanc Howton Raddysh
Bracco Andersson Fast
Nieves (Bjork, Evans, Lettieri in competition)(Robertson, Barron, Gettinger, Fontaine in the wings)

1.5-2 mil under cap depending on RFAs

2020 draft: 1,2,2,3,4,4,5,6,7,7
Spooner, Beleskey come off books, DG goes down to 1.11, Cally down to 1.57, Smith at 870k, buy out Staal at 3.57 - basically clears the books for 2021
 
This team needs to cut all of the dead weight on the roster, rebuild the depth and attain as much draft capital as possible, man. Can we at least start with that? And don't sign or trade for dead weight like you did with McQuaid.

I'm sure this will make Bern proud, since you not only made some bad proposals, you also broke a rule in the CBA.

Teams can only retain on 3 contracts at a time. We are already retaining on Spooner and you've got 4 more in this list.

Shatty for Callahan doesn't make sense for Tampa. Tampa would be looking to clear cap by trading Cally, not replace him with an even higher/longer cap hit.

We're working on rebuilding the depth, obviously. The dead weight will be cut as their contracts expire, if not before, but right now the priority is to get value for the players who are pending UFAs.

I don't see the problem with trading for McQuaid. We're still likely to get a better pick for him than what we paid, and he didn't block anyone. If someone had earned a spot, they would have gotten it.

Wouldn't be shocked (or upset) if they re-signed Hayes. Although I wonder how much the draft will play into it. If you walk out of the draft with Hughes (or any of those top 3-4 centers), is Hayes going to shift to the wing down the line?

And what about Chytil and Lias? Their place may be on the wing long term but not giving them a legit shot at center in the NHL would be the wrong move
 


Oilers AGM at the game tonight. Keith Gretzky said in The Athletic that he'd like to be a buyer at the deadline.

Sekera has played 2 of the 3 games on his conditioning stint. Unless the Oilers ask for an extension they'll have to recall him after tomorrow night's game and will need to dump some salary. As @BBKers noted earlier in the thread, the Rangers have 6 contract spots available and could leverage their cap space to acquire some assets.

Edit: Looks like Bobby Mac said on Insider Trading that Sekera might not have to come up until after the weekend. Thought it was 3 games or 6 days, whichever comes first, but maybe not. Noted they're trying to dump Manning and Petrovic and nobody wants them and they could end up hitting waivers.

It is like when you're breaking up, but you tell each other it was just rough timing and that maybe you'll get back together in the future, to kind of like ease the hurt. But then you're free of them and after a couple months you notice you're kinda alright without them and you move on.

We're breaking up with Zucc

The last thing we want to do his half commit to a rebuild.... suck for 2 years then be a bubble team. They need to bring in a core that can be a threat every year for the long term, not hope for a Cinderella run.

Zuc and Hayes are gone...but I wouldnt bet against resigning Zuc after the season. I was doubtful they would move Kreider but I'm thinking it will depend on what it would take to resign him...8 years no thanks, 5 years 35 mill or less I'm ok with.

Zucc to WPG for 2nd + Appleton

Hayes to Carolina for 1st + Fox + small add

Kreider to Boston for Donato + Vaakinainen + 1st in 2020

McQuaid to Vegas for 3rd rounder

Namestnikov to Colorado for Bowers

Call up Meskanen, Andersson, and Gilmour for remainder of season.

Pick Zegras/Turcotte in 6-9 range. Dorofeyev with Carolina’s first round exit pick. Ville Heinola with Tampa’s cup winning pick.
