Colorado is like 2 pts ahead of us. Crazy
They have the benefit that the wheat of the Western Conference still hasn't separated from the chaff. Hell, even Arizona and Edmonton are still only 2 or 3 points away from that last Wild Card spot. It'll either make the West a seller's paradise this month or a complete nightmare if teams decide to bow out now.

Makes me wonder if the Rangers are targeting ELCs instead of picks and prospects.
It’s definitely an interesting idea, and they’ll have the cap flexibility to lock these types of guys into Poile-esque long-term RFA deals.

Should be a fun few weeks.

With rumors of Knicks and Rangers teams being for sale, anyone think we see a bugger purge than expected in the next 6 months?

I know there were other issues with Porzingis, but bigger picture there could be an edict to make the two teams as debit free as possible to facilitate the estimated Billions these teams are worth. Salary is always the first cut when business purge debt.

In my opinion, Colorado is no longer a trade option for us unless they go on a ridiculous winning streak over the next few weeks, which I doubt. We ain't getting **** from them.
There may be legs to the Namestinkov talk. He has term, buy low candidate, history of playing with skill.

I'm sure they're looking at a young NHLer on the cusp + pick or something like that. I'm on record as saying Brendan Lemieux would be a nice addition as a depth forward moving forward. Not as a key piece, but as A PIECE coming back. With the style Quinn wants to play, I'm sure the Ranger are looking for guys who can play a similar style to Lemieux.

Here's the list of players who MAY be available:
Appleton
23 years old
Skilled winger
6 points in 25 games

Roslovic
12 points in 50 games
Skilled center
22 years old

Lemieux
8 points in 35 games
Power forward
22 years old

I'd say that based on their current and future needs, I could see Appleton or Lemieux being the player being dangled.

Connor
Ehlers
Laine
Wheeler
Little
Perrault
Scheifle

That's (7) top-9 forwards right there. Scheifele is really the only effective center out of that group. Perrault and Little can play center but are more 3rd line options at this point in time. It makes sense for them to keep Roslovic as he could be a cheap option at center beyond this year.

Hayes makes a ton of sense for them and if they don't want to move another first, perhaps they make one of their better young players available. They still have Vesaleinen coming over next year as well who is a wing. Too many players, not enough spots. I wouldn't be surprised to see them prefer to pick and choose who they are keeping in lieu of trading their 1st

If it’s a buyers market it means a lot of guys may move and that means 1st rounders

Could target revert 1st and 2nd round prospects instead for sure

Not only do I have to think Roslovic for Hayes is a pipe dream, I'd actually be a bit worried of the Jets gave him up for a rental.

Appleton would be a very good addition. Hard worker with skill who is a right shot. I'd ask for him and a 1st for Hayes. If they balked I'd settle for a 2nd but I want another prospect. Make gamble on Petan.

If you can add a guy like Appleton who is young and basically NHL ready then that's one less guy you have to find in the draft. You can make spend one less pick on a character guy and roll the dice on a enigmatic talent.

I've heard good things about Roslovic despite his to date lack of point production at the NHL level. Haven't seem him play much though.

He scored last night from the Mika wheelhouse

Yeah, I was wondering if something like:

Appleton + 2nd + _______
or
Lemieux + 1st + _______

It doesn't make any sense for them to move Roslovic when they need a center moving forward who is cost controlled and he is their best option.

I will say that I think Lemieux (as I have stated before) has the ability to be that 20-20 or 20-25 power forward who is a pain in the ass to play against that many teams covet. That style of play and type of player is making its way back into the NHL. When the increase in speed occurred so rapidly back in 2009-2012 so many of these guys just couldn't keep up (McIlrath is one example). But these younger guys who play that style were grown in a game where speed was so important and it still has an effect on a game. I think the pendulum is swinging back

The Rangers match up with these teams.

Boston needs secondary scoring and another center. The Rangers have those players.

TB and Toronto will look to add a RHD.

Pittsburgh needs another center. Brassard is on the way out. Hayes to Pittsburgh. The Rangers get their 1st in 2019 which could be a pick in the early 20’s to #31. Calen Addison. Acquire Brassard and ship him off in a 3 team trade.

Columbus needs a center. Tortorella likes Hayes. When Tortorella was on the NHL Network for 5 seconds before taking the Columbus job, they did a segment on young players and Tortorella raved about Hayes.

The Avs and Dallas need a center and secondary scoring.

The Jets need a center.

Nashville is looking to add a forward.

Calgary is looking for help. They can reach the WCF. Elliotte Friedman said they have looked at Kreider and Zuccarello. Hayes? He is beat friends with Gaudreau and Tkachuk is his cousin.

Edmonton. Who knows about them? They want to make the playoffs but they have no GM.

The Sharks are looking to add. They are all in already so why not go more in. They have Florida’s 2nd in 19. No 1st until 21 or 22. If they reach the Cup final in June, Ottawa gets their 1st in 21.

Vegas is a buyer. They are looking for a center or a winger. Karlsson is not scoring as much as last season. They don’t trust Eakin. Statsny has been OK. Haula is out with a knee injury.

I’d say Sweeney would top Appleton + 2nd for Hayes. Nashville could come in strong as well. 3 more weeks for those bids to increase.

I blame myself for always mentioning Roslovic

Either way, Jets have plenty of pieces to move, it’s just a matter of how stingy Chevy will be. The biggest thing for me is that Zuccy is hitting a hot streak at the right time. If he can keep this up, I wouldn’t be opposed to having him back on a short-term deal if he’d want to return here after being traded.

I choose to blame you too.

I've always been a Zucc fan but I think it's time to move on to the next generation. Just a gut feeling that he ends up reunited with Brassard in Dallas and they both sign new deals there.

The Jets are going to have too many players ready for the NHL at the same time. They cant ice a team of 26 players. Time to pick and choose. It makes sense why Chevy wants to keep his 1st rounder this year because that 18 year old will develop and be ready for the NHL by the time he is needed whereas the large group of players ready now will be worked out by then.

Perhaps the Rangers have a deal with Mats? Trade him as a rental, then re-sign him in July, say 15M over 3 years.
Then make him captain.

No. These aren't businesses that are struggling. Shaving a few million off of teams that are worth billions would be inconsequential. There's only so much that can be cut with the Rangers anyway due to the salary floor.
