I’m shocked but overjoyed. I’ve never seen a rookie with the leash this kid has had. He shouldn’t be anywhere near the lineup until McQuaid is gone

Ive said it before and ill repeat it here.

Would not be surprised if GMJG tries to accelerate the rebuild in free agency. Its his M.O. its following the same route boston took circa 2005-2007. AGM when the bruins traded thornton and samsinov in 2005/06 ish. Signed Chara and Savard 06. drafted Kessel Lucic and Marchand-06.

To equate:
Rangers trade McD/Miller
Draft Kravtsov/Miller/Lundkvist
if the comparison were to hold rangers sign breadman and karlsson this offseason.

Only difference being that the rangers are doing this with alot more 1st round picks and seem to have restocked the system better. I believe that Howden/Rykov/Hajek/Lindgren are better then any prospect not named Raask aquired in a trade. Still dont know if weve aquired a player at the Bergeron/Marchand/Chara/Krecji level that is needed.

I don't think it's totally out of the question, though I think it depends on who they move and who they get.

I think we're reaching the point where there's going to be less obvious candidates to move, and this might be the last year with multiple first round picks for a while.

Next year is still possible if 1) Kreider is not locked up, and 2) Shattenkirk rebounds. Otherwise, I’d agree.

3 yrs and 6-8 1st round picks is not to shabby.

Well it's unprecedented for this organization, at the very least.

Let's conservatively assume the Rangers have two firsts and two seconds in 2019.

That means between 2016 and 2019, they will have 13 players picked in either the first or second round of those drafts.

A 5 year deal makes Matthews a UFA at 27 and buys only one UFA year. And at that cap hit? Don't know what Toronto is thinking here.

Five years?

Welp.
It’s smart, he’ll be what 25 when it expires.

1. 25 yrs old when it terms, prime years ready to cash in on a big 7-8 yr contract, likely prices move to 15-18 mil by then for his caliber

2. If something catastrophic happens, his great grandchildren are covered

I gotta do some research but i cant remember a team with that many assets in the 1st 2 rounds in a 3 yr span in a long time. In the NFL sure the browns had a stretch like that a few yrs ago.

I actually like pionk as a number 3 rhd.

Agreed. And Gorton needs to move McQuaid out. But, who’s his partner?

Staal looks best with DeAngelo. And, frankly, Shattenkirk has looked best with Claesson, although I guess he’s been passable with Smith. So who works with Pionk? And who works with Skjei?

Chara was what really helped. If they missed out on signing him, I think the rebuild would have had different results.

If we had the opportunity of signing a Chara in his prime this offseason, it would impact the development of our team a lot more than a Panarin or Stone.

I mean, theoretically, does Karlsson not have a similar effect on games and will be a UFA around the same age?

12 picks in top two rounds from 1969-72.
