There's no getting around that his size helps him. Just like speed helps some guys, or being a physical specimen helps others. Everyone has their gifts.

But, seriously, Byfield's hands and playmaking are great. Being big doesn't help you find the open man or improve your edge-work while skating.

I think he's one of the most intriguing prospects to come along in a very long time. And while you can argue that he's bigger than his peers, and it benefits from that advantage, you also have to consider that he is younger than a lot of his competition as well.

Lafreniere's parents were close to getting ready for his first birthday celebration when Byfield was being brought home from the hospital. That's how much of a gap we're talking about between the two.

At this stage, that's significant.

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to add a player of his caliber to our organization. To me, that’s worth so much more than almost missing the playoffs or making the 8th seed and losing in round 1.

Byfield is my favorite prospect this year. The ceiling is off the charts. He's the reason I root for goals against. One more year to bottom out and with a little luck this team can turn things around quickly

Byfield is my prospect crush this year.

Lefreniere's skills are elite, and he's done nothing to lose his place at the top of this list. I just think Byfield has a chance to be a dangerous player who is incredibly hard to stop. This is kid who would've been projected as a star back in 2000, but has the toolbox to play in 2020.

I’ve only watched him once but something seemed missing. Just couldn’t identify what it was.

Dreger said Leafs interested in Georgiev. I think his value is probably Bracco and a pick

Something around Kapanen for Georgiev makes sense as a base. Rangers asked about him when the Leafs were looking at McDonagh. He's a far cry from William Nylander but he's a useful forward who brings some pace and can probably chip in 20 goals while also being a good penalty killer. If the Rangers walk away from Fast, they'll need another forward who can play short handed.

Leafs clear a bit of room for next year to re-sign some guys and get a viable 1B to challenge Andersson and possibly replace him.

And the gap is so large that I would be shocked if Byfield was as complete and dynamic a player as Lafreniere is a year from now.

You know, I honestly believe Byfield has a shot to be as impactful as Lafreniere.

He’s not quite as purely skilled as Lafreniere, and his offensive weapons don’t rate quite as high, but the overall package has a chance to be just as productive — and at a premium position.
