Landeskog had the contract issue with the Avalanche. There were so rumors about different teams. Even though there was free agent window before free agency started, you know other teams inquired about Landeskog. He ended up staying in Colorado. 8 years. $56M.

Landeskog wanted to be in Colorado, pretty badly. Thinking there won't be more than a few teams to line up and give Mika at least $8.5 with some cute contract or willing to go as high as $9.5-10 is shortsighted. I think he very obviously loves NY and I think it suits his second career as a DJ and his post-hockey life really well, but he strikes me as a guy who wants to be paid.

I could see another team next off-season giving him 7 years x $8m per season pretty easily. That's $56m. Especially if they can get him for 'free' in terms of asset costs

I think Zbad, since he has a full no movement clause in his last year, could basically say either give me the contract I want, or I am not even allowing you to trade me, even at the deadline, and will walk as a UFA.

I mean he will not say that, he just won't waive or extend unless they offer whatever his threshold is for a new contract.

It would be a game of chicken between Zbad's desire to stay on the Rangers, and the Rangers needing a top line center, and I am pretty sure the team blinks first given their lack of top C options, even future options.

Mika will 100% get more than a 7.5 AAV if he hits the open market.

Landeskog would've gotten more than he did from Colorado had he went UFA. He clearly wanted to stay in Colorado.

Kravtsov worries me a little bit. He had a really good season last season. He was really good in the KHL. He was very good with the Rangers. His production didn't match his play. He had 4 points in 20 games with the Rangers but he played better than those numbers. His overall play was good. The Rangers have a new coaching staff. How do they view Kravtsov? The last time the Rangers sent Kravtsov to the AHL, he pouted and used his escape clause to play in the KHL. He returned to the AHL after barely playing in the KHL that season. He was much better in the AHL finishing out the 2019-20 season before Covid ended their season in March. His family appears to have money so he could up in the KHL next season if things don't work out here. This is a big year for Kravtsov.

Think you are onto something. The cap situation has also forced a lot of teams to use young players. Fast or skilled players but not very physical. Pionk has become much more physical than he was in the last couple of years. And he can skate. Just the D you need in todays NHL. And last time i watched Winnipeg he was not on their 1st powerplay unit. Reading the Jets board he got more praise for his defensive play.

I wonder how much praise he is going to receive moving forward now that hes making real money.

I wouldn't really classify him as a good skater either. He has good top end speed, but his first few steps are pretty slow and for a defenseman, those first few steps are so important. You don't need to keep separation from the opposition in your own end, but you sure as hell need to create it and do something positive with the puck before they catch up. This is why hes gotten mauled in the playoffs the last 2 years by teams that have at least a shred of speed and grind.

He was always going to be better in Winnipeg than he was in NY, he played with Staal which is a nearly impossible task for anyone (and honestly, it makes DeAngelo's 2019-20 season look f***ing heroic.) Still isn't really a player I'd want on my team in a top 4 role and if I wanted a bottom pair PP specialist, there are better, cheaper options available.

I don't have sources like you do but that's the feeling I'm getting as well. And I think it's ok to start the season as is and see how this group performs. We're not winning the cup this year but we do need to make the playoffs and this squad should be able to do that.

Based on what. In our division/conference we would need to finish ahead of Washington, Pitt, Isles, Boston, Montreal, Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Toronto all of whom made the playoffs this past year. Which 2 are we gonna beat out?

I actually have the opposite view on him.

Last year was a big step forward for him and he has a staff that won't cater to the veterans just because they're veterans. He's putting in the work this offseason and personally I expect some pretty big things from him if he is still here at the start of training camp. Buchnevich is no longer here, theres a spot in the top 6 for him to be won, I'd say he has a leg up on the rest of his non Kakko competition.

Still think giving him a look at C is the way to go and if he can stick, probably his best path at being here long term. He fits the "traditional" center mold in terms of skill set and he has the length and wheels to be an impactful player defensively if he wants to be. Training camp/Pre season is the perfect time to f*** around with this and see if its even feasible.

If Drury wanted Dvorak, he could have traded for him by now. He has the assets and cap room to make that trade and everyone knows there is a market for Strome.

I'm getting the feeling that unless an Eichel deal falls into his lap, this is the roster we are starting the season with.

Chytil for Dvorak straight up. Which team says no? Would that work? Chytil probably has more upside but it's getting late early. Chytil needs to take the next step in his game. He had the opportunity last season and he got hurt. I heard Brooks say the Rangers aren't sure if center is Chytil's position. The Rangers don't need another wing. Dvorak was on pace to have his offensive season in his NHL season last year. 24.89 goals. 24-25 goals. 45 point season. Dvorak would give the Rangers a stable option at center. He is a signed at a decent number for the next four seasons. $4.45M. His salary is $5.075M this season. It drops to $3.45M in 22-23. $5.725M in 23-24. $5.75M in 24-25.

Figuring out how to add a top line center to a team is not so easy. Usually those guys get drafted by their teams and work their way up, or are traded for before they become top line centers. It's not like the Rangers have years to wait for either of those options to materialize, and it's also not like they already have plausible top line center prospects within the organization.

This is not me saying I think they should do it, it's going to be a long term contract that likely goes poorly, this is me saying it's probably going to happen because they lack any other option.

1. Kravtsov was constantly bumped around the lineup even though there were stretches where he was the best Rangers on the ice
2. There is ZERO chance the Rangers traded Buch for the return they did unless they thought Krav could step up in a more consistent offensive role
3. All of that other noise is stereotypical Russian = escape to KHL noise. Did he do that before? Yes. Do you think a decision made by a 20 yr leaving his home for the first time vs a 22 yr old that has lived that roller coaster experience already would make the same decision? Remember when he bolted the KHL, it wasn't like he was welcomed back with open arms...

I agree about last season being a big step for him. There is a new coaching staff now. I just hope Gallant doesn't say Kravstov needs more AHL time because he doesn't really know him and they want to go with a more veteran option. Kravtsov has not established himself as an NHL player yet.
