I agree he’s not a slouch by any means

He’s just not as good as some thought he would be

No big deal though, if him trouba fox and ADA all have potential long term as top 4 defenseman than we’re really just looking for our stud left handed defenseman, which is a good place to be considering we really only started this rebuild a short time ago.

Sjkei was good - he was much better than he was now. He has regressed - it wasn't out of the realm of possibility he came a solid 1st line stay at home.
He seems to have failed once Mc D left and much more was asked of him. Some people are just quality lieutenants and can't progress higher.

I think that you would be trading a future rd all star caliber player plus a lot

Quality RD is more rare than quality LD, so in a 1 for 1 trade, you get a better player than ADA. Throw in a 2LD in Skjei plus a kid with a realistic future like Hajek and/or Lias, and it's a very strong package for an LD.

It is hard to get a late first given that most teams that would have a late first have good goaltending.

Teams that are selling tend to get 1sts for rentals if they have one that is good and in demand.

The 1st round will get settled later on, but if a team needs a young goalie gets its hands on one of those, it becomes a trade target, especially if that selling team isn't starting rebuild.

It's more of an offseason move though (nothing wrong with that) though because unless there is an injury pretty much none of the top 3 teams in any division need a goalie.

I fully agree. However, I'm referring to the instances IMO the forward was highest value on the board and the Rangers went for the goalie or LD instead...Halverson over Kempe, Crawley in the 4th round in 2017 and Lindbolm over numerous options.

Eh, that’s cuts both ways. If we do that, then wed also have to include defenseman we didn’t take over forwards the board identified as well.

You just traded 2 top 4 defenseman in their mid 20s and a high end D prospect for who exactly?

Brodin has come to mind for me as well. Only bc I remember some talk wild were dangling him to the rangers a couple years ago when they had a D crunch. Think the rangers were trying to pry dumba though at the moment. Funny that need has totally flip-flopped hasnt it

Not a prospect. A legit 1LD in his mid20s. Just because someone's name isn't in the news as trade bait, doesn't mean he can't be had. I said it's worth exploring ADA+Skjei and possibly a lesser young guy for a borderline All Star LD (someone who is an All Star some years, but not all).

You’re talking about trading 3 of 6 starting defenseman in one package. That just would never happen.

Ekman Larsson?

Coyotes are thin at RD.

They'd look like this

Chychrun - DeAngelo
Skjei
- Gologoski
Hajek - Demers.
$7,008,333 in
$8,250,000 out

we'd have

Ekman Larsson - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Rykov - Smith
Staal (buyout?)

yotes current $0 cap space
NYR current $2.959 cap space

Yotes could give ADA Soderbergs expiring money.

It's not too far fetched lol?

So we save like no cap space and end up with one NHL defensive pair, I don’t see the sense. Why can’t we take the route the Bruins did and just keep our defensemen and continue to develop and plug them in when they’re ready. You end up with good defense and depth. Too far fetched?

How many NHL Defensive pairs do we have now?

We have a ton of good looking prospects to "Plug in" as you say over the next few years. (Robertson, Miller, Reunanen, Keane) at least 2 of them should make it.
We have Rykov (LD) knocking at the door with no spot.
Lindgren and Fox are our defacto 2nd unit already.
We most likely can't afford ADA and we are RD heavy with Lundqvist possibly in a 2 year window.
Skjei is playing below his cap weight.

You can't keep them all. There are only 6 spots and we certainly are not letting them walk in their contract years as others are ready.
I love ADA, but it's clear Trouba and Fox are here to stay. He's a very attractive piece as a 50+ pt RFA and Skjei/Chychrun/ Hajek is a better total LD side than they currently have with Gogo as their top RD. ADA/Skjei/Hajek gives them a 3 line defence they currently don't have.

3 d for 1 d is an oddball trade. I'm just replying to the two posters I quoted. One brought up a stud LD for those 3 players, another asked who in the world it could be. Coyotes are more forward heavy than D heavy, we are the opposite. Seems a match regardless if people overrate OEL as some megastar or not. I don't think the value is too off.

And to all. don't be snide in your replies. Come at me civil or don't come at all.

Absurd proposal. Larson has a lot of miles on him and carries a large contract. Arizona just traded deangelo now they want him back

I'd do deangelo skjei and hajek for Quinn Hughes and miller though or Peterson and miller

has any team at any time in history traded half their defense squad in a single transaction? Some proposals just aren't worth any response at all.

We can afford to reside DeAngelo that’s the thing. We are projected somewhere around 15 or more million this offseason. With that money we have to fit DeAngelo and Lemieux, Strome if they decide to keep him. A lot of people are suggesting we trade him when their is no replacement RD ready. There is also no reason we can’t sign him and trade him in a few years if Lundkvist is making a case for the spot. We are a rebuilding team as well so I don’t see why we are packaging 3 of our young defenseman with high end potential for a guy who doesn’t fit the timeline of our rebuild

Theres nothing wrong with signing ADA, but theres also nothing wrong with having Trouba and Fox in the top four, or ADA and Fox in the top four. We would adapt and survive if we traded one of ADA and Trouba for a young top-six F with first-line upside.
