Don't look now, but Karlsson is at 38 points in 42 games after a pretty horrid start in SJ. Perhaps the rumors of his demise were overblown?
God forbid it takes time for him to adjust to a new system and new teammates.Don't look now, but Karlsson is at 38 points in 42 games after a pretty horrid start in SJ. Perhaps the rumors of his demise were overblown?

I still want him over Panarin and any other UFA this summer.
The deal outlined had us unloading Smith. In return the Rangers would take on the shorter, but higher cap hit contracts of Hanzal and Nichuskin. It's a way to remove the cap from the Rangers books a year early. It would be a smart move.
It adds 3.5M to the cap in a year expected to have a much stronger FA class at the top than most. No guarantees anyone nearly as good becomes available a year or two later.
I saw a couple things on twitter.Where did you read asking about Fast?
Should the Rangers really be signing anyone if they are still carrying around 2 years of ~$20m in cap space tied up in Staal/Smith/Shattenkirk? They need to find a way to get out from those contracts as soon as possible. Losing a year of Smith's contract will help. Cap space is valuable no matter when it arrives.
I would not necessarily say this is true. If the year you have cap space is in the year of a bad FA crop it can very often lead to bad signings just because the team doesn't want to let space go to waste. Such as the years with Lucic/Ladd/Okposo/Alzner/Hanzal/Eriksson/Backes being among the top players available. It is far more valuable to have it in a year where you are almost certain the class will be very good.
I'm not seeing why Kreider would take a penny less than what Evander Kane received. 7 years x $7m per season. I would actually expect him to make more because he doesn't have any attitude issues and he has a better track record of producing.
So let's assume the Rangers feel he will ask for 7 years x $7m per season because the market has been set. What do they do?
I think that they are staying far away from any long-term UFA contract. He’s a stud. He just wasn’t getting the ice time with burns there that he was used to. Now they’ve figured out the balance.
I think he’s a NYR target this summer if he hits free agency.
Lebrun said they would likely do 6x6.What were the Rangers prepared to agree to with Callahan, an inferior player who began showing wear and tear?

And possibly the Rangers tank.....
I didn't think about this but they should consider sitting him once they get to that mark
