Honestly, the $$$$ for a buyout on Kotka contract is not bad, $850k but its for 9 seasons. I would do it if I was the Canes and had a solid shot of signing Bennett.
I think they could just retain 1m and find a trade partner for him. 3.8m for a 33+ point payer on a team that could give him more minutes and aren't straight contenders right now wouldn't be too bad of a deal.

Fox has a full no move. He is not waiving for buffalo. Is this board just a congregation of everyone dropped on their head as a child?

Also cap math
Dahlin makes 11
Fox makes 9
Laf makes 7
You say peterka gets 6-7

So our cap goes up 2 million ish and we’re probably not improving that dramatically.
We would improve dramatically.

Fox's nmc kicks in this summer. I have been bringing this up for months.

Lafreniere has annoyed me for many of the seasons he's played. I've been vocal on that, but the difference here between them is skating and powerplay points. Right now I can't even say for sure that Peterka would get definite #1 powerplay time. If Lafreniere going forward was what we saw last season, anything should improve us. If Lafreniere can find his game from 2 seasons ago, this move might be a lateral move between them.

Then you basically have Fox - Dahlin and you can take your pick depending on how you view Fox or Dahlin.

Nobody is saying Othmann should retire and give up but he really didn't do shit in the games he played and we have been hearing about him for a little while now. And what line does he play on? If Kreider stays, you got Laf-Cuylle-Kreider at LW unless someone goes to RW to make room for Othmann.
3RW is open for him or Berard right away. If Kreider is moved, there is a spot for both. With one injury, there's room for both plus Gabe.

I know RB has cited it a few times, but what's LA's plan with hiring Ken Holland? Friedman, Johnston, and Seravalli have all mentioned that this is likely a shorter-term hire for Holland with him turning 70 this year. They've all linked him with Ryan Martin from his days in Detroit, and the guy has over 20 years of experience of working in NHL front offices. I don't know how old he is, but it seems like a good situation for him to take over as GM for Holland once his contract is up. This is assuming the agree to Rangers let him go; they've done this lately with both Mike Grier and Kris Knoblauch letting them go accept promotions elsewhere.

With the Leafs not renewing Shanahan's contract and Keith Pelley saying that he plans on working with Brad Treliving more directly. They have five assistant GMs right now. Keith Pelley said they want to streamline their processes, and I think there could be some good opportunities to bring in someone from a very crowded Toronto front office. I doubt they'd let Brandon Pridham go elsewhere, but I'd look to see if they could interview Ryan Hardy for a job. I've posted about him before, but he did an incredible job running the Chicago Steel and has strong ties to US hockey. He's from CT too and other teams were trying to hire him before he took the Toronto job. The guy knows how to identify talent and develop. It didn't bear fruit in Toronto, but the track record is there. We certainly can't do worse when it comes to the development aspect within this organization.

Cuylle was playing both LW and RE last year. Laf has been predominantly a RW for two years. Othmann has been playing both wings in the AHL.

‘Didn’t do shit’ isn’t entirely accurate when his line was one of the better lines for a few of the games he played in. Him, Carrick and Rempe were a buzz-saw on the forecheck.

And this is a Sabres fan page. Where do I sign?

zibs and Kreider for McLeod and Byram

Maybe go even further add Othmann and Tuch

Doubt Buffalo does it but I think Zibs would be open to it if he’s going with Kreider.

Same package for Lindholm and Geekie from Boston

We are really calling Othmann a bust and ready to trade after 20 NHL games? Okay
Seriously...The team was ass this past season so not exactly the best environment for him. Obviously there's a lot to improve on but he did show signs of being able to get to the tough areas of the ice and being in the right spots. Also not afraid of contact.

Just like with Gabe, I'll really start to evaluate his play at the beginning of the next season (unless Gabe is in the AHL but I don't think they send him down). I liked what I saw with Gabe when he had the puck but he looked lost. Time should help because he was basically thrown to the wolves.

Fox v dahlin - sure they’re comparable except Fox took a discount, so you’re looking at paying 2m more.

If we did that, we'd have a larger hole at RD than we currently have at LD.

It's interesting, but doesn't solve anything.
Dahlin has played both LD and RD throughout his career, so it really wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Dahlin had a 3 year bridge before signing the 8 year deal, while Fox signed his extension immediately after his ELC. He's also younger than Fox, but I think we're splitting hairs with the $1.5M difference between the two AAV wise. It only would be an issue for this offseason to sign Cuylle and K'Andre, but it'll get covered easily with the looming cap increases.

We need a lot more Berards not less.
Maybe Othmann will score a goal before the half way mark of the 2025-2026 season?
I know if Berard is given a chance the kid will be a 35 point scorer (no pp time) and terrific bottom 6 guy. Even slot up to top 6 once in while. If anyone watched him in Hartford they would realize he has more 5 on 5 ability than Othmann.
I would like to keep both but if i had to choose one it would be Berard. Plus the notion that Othmann is a first rounder therefore more upside you probably get more in return

Is it a surprise? Laf is a bust after a drop from 57 point to 45. Miller is a bust for giving the puck away. Kakko was a bust cause he is slow. Perreault is a bust cause he is small and rode Smith and Leonard coattails. Emery is a bust cause he didn't have any points. Everybody is a bust. Busts all around.

To be fair though, we should trade him. We have a silly amount of wingers. We need some centers and LHD. And we need top talent. Make a package and get one.

A team like Carolina would be a fun team to retool in a video game. A solid Moneyball team that makes the dance but struggles once they're there.

In reality, they have some real good things going for them, but they're incomplete. If they found a taker for Kotka, they would unironically be a fit for Bennett, overpayment and all.

They did the right thing but it backfired on them, they needed Raantanen, they have a lot of really good players, no elite ones outside of slavin. Aho, svech, and Jarvis are like the Kessel on a Stanley cup team. They need their star player.
I'm not questioning your choice but any reason you would keep Othmann over Berard? Is it just the size?

Partially, hes got a pure goal scorers touch, has some bite to his game, we haven't seen what he's capable of yet really. Again, i like Berard but imo Othmann will have the better career.
