Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Be careful what you wish for in regards to firing Drury. There is a high likelihood the replacement is worst. It's going to be Holland or Chiarelli. I kinda like Brendan Shanahan if we're looking for a Rangers connection in a guy with executive level experience.

How could it be worse? We went from eastern conference finals to being beat out of a playoff spot by Jeff Gortons Montreal rebuild that started after he left here. Drury isn't the guy, I'd take nearly anyone over him. Here's a thought, maybe Craig Button wants another opportunity, his current job has him following current and future draft picks, he'd certainly have a wealth of information with regards to the draft. Just one idea, might be terrible but it will never be this bad.

also, going to do my victory lap now. when Laviolette was hired I knew it was an awful move. Drury had the right coach sitting right in front of him (Knoblauch) and didn't hire him. I also told everyone here that Housley was a schmuck on day 1. last year was obviously a complete fluke.

ok im done.

What the hell are you talking about? He expounded the locker room problem by completely f***ING UP THE TROUBA TRADE BY LEAKING IT TO UNCLE LARRY.

Drury is an incompetent nincompoop that has done nothing to warrant keeping his job.
Yeah, I’m of the mind that if he just waited one more year to dispose of everyone, we would actually be in 2nd or 3rd place in the Metro, and looking forward to our inevitable playoffs, and still have our 1st round pick this year and next. Serenity.

I'm perfectly fine with that trade, Chytil was never going to be anywhere 82 game player and couldn't be counted on to be healthy in playoffs. Getting Miller for him is a steal.
Yup, that's why I don't get how getting Miller for Chytil is the reason for the Rangers being worse next year than otherwise.

As sad as this sounds, if Chris Drury is still here next year I'm thinking I might pull the shoot. I can't with this guy anymore. For context I grew up an Oilers fan, they traded player after player in their prime and I finally said, "when Messier leaves this team I'm following him". I'm at that point again after so many years of this team crushing me with terrible decisions. My final straw might be Drury being here next year because he has no idea what he is doing. The team has no use for young players, yet the trades they make make us worse. If we had the first overall pick for the next 4 years we'd still never get anywhere because we'd try and turn those picks into 4th liners or trade them for 33 year old players. Until this organization gets serious they don't deserve any of us imo. I'm very frustrated right now. They need to dump Drury and Lavy.
Well, I think you are a very good poster, and would be missed. I think Drury and Lav should be gone as well. I think Drury should have gone with the same team as last year, and if we were worse, jettison every one at once. He has made things worse, but it is possible that he new it would, and that he has a plan to upgrade the D and speed on this roster next year. I’m not holding my breath, but I would hang on for one more year if you can stomach it.

No thanks, why would we want him in charge of any other moves especially when he's turned this team into a dumpster fire? Kreider is gone, Mika may or may not be because of his trade protection, that's all that's left. I for one don't want him in charge of a Kreider trade given all the "guys they have been targeting for a while" can't get into this shit lineup. Kreider should have a good return, as much as he's sucked this year I think most around the league realize he's not 100%. I could see us getting a Rick Nash type haul for him, I dont want Drury in charge of that. Drury should have been gone before the Kakko trade. He actually should have been gone when we started the season with Trouba on the roster, he bundled that big time by not getting his no trade list before making a deal. He's toast and I want another gm.
But we dont know what the new GM would do. He could easily cater to them. We know for face Drury is not. I dont care what return he gets for Kreider, guy just needs to be as far away from this team as possible.

We dont know what either gm will do to be honest, why didn't Drury trade Kreider last summer? Lame duck GM's dont make trades for future success, they make them for right now, we need a long term plan and a gm with new ideas on how to be successful.

Fox's mistake ended up being the GWG. Hardly any mention of it. If it was anybody, forgot about it. He misplays pucks. Blown defensive assignments. Nothing. You know people would have been all over Miller if it was his fault. However, Joe put the blame on Fox. When Fox was out, the PP struggled. People said the power play misses Fox. The PP struggled with Fox prior to the shoulder injury and is struggling with him.
That was Millers mistake. Miller was going behind his net with no one on the other side, then suddenly for no reason, passed to Fox, who was looking up ice to see if the other team was changing, and suddenly the puck came his way. Miller another mental mistake. Foxx with a physical mistake, though somewhat excusable.

I think it was 3 games ago that I decided to watch Key for the whole game, and I counted 9 plays where he did some unbelievably strange plays to help the other team. Granted, some maybe because of what Lav asks of his Dmen, but he is constantly out of position or caught in the O zone, many times leading to opposition scores, or scoring chances. They talked about some of his mistakes he’s made in the last 2 games in between periods. Some of these mistakes could be acceptable if he could transition to more of an offensive Dman, but for some reason, he hasn’t.

He’s also made a couple plays recently that only a couple Dmen in the league are capable of, but the good does not outway the bad with him. I am expecting him to be traded this off season. He wont be traded just to make a trade. He will bring back a couple good players, hopefully one being perhaps a less talented, but more consistent Dman.

He did trade Gooddrow and the captain Trouba (well tried, took a couple extra months). Kreider likely bought himself an extra season with his hat trick last playoffs unfortunately.

I’m actually placing this nightmare season on the head of whichever mod closed the annual “This is a Bad Hockey Team” thread at the beginning of the year. Way to ruin the season by crapping on a time honored HFNYR tradition.

The original poster was talking about how the Rangers are never competitive. Regardless of the underlying numbers, they've been more than competitive.

And I'm also aware that every good thing the Rangers ever did was a fluke.
The response he quoted you on was your response to me. Nowhere in my post did I anything about NYR never being competitive.
