Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

.
I am actually more upset with last night's loss than the previous debacle against Calgary. The talent gap between the Leafs and the Rangers is staggering. What is upsetting is that I just don't see a way for us to close the gap over the next few years realistically.

But, there are ways of being competitive when you don't have the skills to match the elite teams.

You need a defensive head coach first and foremost, who will install a system and make players defensively accountable, not only the actual D but the forwards. That coach is not Lavy. I don't know who it is, or who is out there, but continuing with our current coaching staff is not going to cut it.

We must be a hard-nosed, hard-working team. We know there are teams out there known for their work effort. That is not the current group. It does mean, younger, hungry players. We don't have many, but they must play bigger roles. Any moves we make must be to bring in this kind of player.

I've come to the opinion that we must cut back to the bone. Not easy to do with the Zib, CK, Panarin contracts. Frankly, to me the only untouchables on the team or Shesty and Cuylle. I guess Perrault should be included. I'm willing (easy for me to say) to get rid of everyone else, including Fox.

I fear, unless there is a drastic overall, we are in for a few really hard years.
Turk Gallant took an EXPANSION TEAM to the Cup Finals....let that sink in . He had two great years in NY and then they fired him because Drury PISSED him off and the players ....the same ones we talk about here ....quit on him . Bust them up and find guys that work for their next contracts .....I doubt Turk ever comes back here so we will need to find a coach elsewhere that the guys will play for and guy that play for each other ....

People thinking Kreider has no value in a trade this summer are seriously out to lunch. He's injured, there's absolutely teams that will give us good value for him. Say what you want but he's a great penalty killer, excellent net front player and when healthy can skate with anyone. His value is similar to Rick Nash when we moved him
doesn't he control all the cards tho? Is it gonna end up being another Trouba situation?
These guys like the country club atmosphere here. They don't wanna leave

That's your opinion, and even tho it is wrong, you are entitled to it

Yeah, zib has mo pts in less games
But there are other factors to consider, which you conveniently ignore

up until now due to injury, Kreider is prob only guy on the team giving legit beast factor

and it was Kreider who saved our bacon last POs, not your piece of shit Zib

finally, your opinion does not qualify you to judge me...
take that and stuff it

"Beast factor" is the last phrase id use to describe Kreider this year, or any other year minus his 50 goal season.

He’ll be healthy by the start of next season. He’s absolutely trade-able and the return will be better than we think. The contract is not an issue. All GMs will see is a veteran guy with pedigree who scores 30 goals and had a down year because of injuries and a toxic atmosphere. Its happened over and over again in the NHL
I think they will be more likely to notice his 35 years than his 30 goals.

Bern take this holier than thou shit and can it.

I don’t know about that either. I hope you are right. I just don’t think you can expect other team’s GMs to make that judgement without seeing him play for a few months.

I don't think you can expect other teams to ignore Kreiders abilities and his medical report if indeed he is healthy during the summer.

Come on man, tons of teams will take him if he's healthy. He hasn't been all year.
He will need a 3 month stretch of good health....that is not always easy at that age ! Turk had to retire in his early 30's on account of back issues. I just am not feeling very positive on a good return for him . Maybe if he starts with a flurry....and then you know what happens....they keep him !!!

Gallant also just straight up wasn't a particularly great coach, especially in terms of developing our young players. It made sense to move on from him and see what a new coach would show, and in the end, we found out that it's both a coaching and a player issue.

What young players did he fail on ? Miller and Schneider were better with him . Kakko looks like a 50 pt player finally albeit elsewhere ....and likely always will be so in all likelihood no coach could have developed him further unless his skating improved......as far as Chytil....we know the deal there . Kravs.....LOL....OK....only Ed could have shined him up . Laf has always had a skating problem but was improving with Gallant . If anybody failed Laf it was Drury who should have sent him to the World Juniors that first yr .

I don't buy the Gallant holding back kids rhetoric ....the kids were and are just not good enough . Gallant maybe could have played them more and we finished then with two 90 point seasons ....would Drury and ownership have liked that ?

Gallant got made the scapegoat here when it was Drury and a few guys that should have had the blame layed on them . He also had a non disclosure agreement where he could not mention any of his grievances with Drury and the Rangers after the firing in lieu of receiving his last year pay .

I don't know who could coach this team in the future .....the league is so full of babies now . It is going to take a couple of seasons to rid this franchise of the country club attitude .....I'm glad I got to enjoy 94 .
