Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

It would be nice, but Drury and Dolan are in charge. Anyone with decency has been expunged. Looking at how Trouba and Goodrow were shown the door, I don’t expect CK will get an overly respectful exit, and really, not many do.
Overly respectful?

JFC
We were foaming at the mouth to throw get rid of both Trouba and Goodrow. And now people are talking about how disrespectful Drury is?
The board was ripping Drury for the Goodrow deal because of how bad it was and that we'd either have to retain / add to get rid of him or buy him out. Trouba we figured we'd also have to add to get rid.
Drury turned around and got an actual NHL player out of the deal.
Drury turned Chytil + into Miller.

Asking Drury to be "respectful" of CK, is insane. He signed a contract, he knows the terms. He's been great for the franchise but he's either playing hurt, or he's absolutely dropping off a cliff. Moving him in the off season is a no brainer. Get something for him.
Moving Panarin is again a net positive. Will we struggle to score for a season? Probably, but being able to eat a bad contract for a year might let us do a real rebuild.

I want no part of this upcoming FA class. Marner is better defensively than panarin, but we need center depth not wing help.

We have an opportunity to fix the team by making some surgical changes. We have a solid window where we can lock up the talent we need, move the guys who don't fit well, and we could make a big splash in the 26 free agent class.
One high draft pick in 26, which is a very talented class, and a good partner for fox, and we're a very very good team.

So do I care how polite we are with CK? Not even slightly.

no one has to be unduly "respectful" notwithstanding that we should all be respectful to each other, notwithstanding further that love is given and respect is earned

but what is obliged is FAIRNESS
and that has to be in context of his injury

FAIRNESS
no more no less

“Respect” is a feeling of deep admiration for someone elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements. I admire Goodrow’s contribution with the Rangers. He came back early from a broken jaw and broken ankle. He was the leader and enforcer on this team during much of his time here. He was also a fine mentor. He also was one of the most prolific players during our latest playoff run. He has gained my respect. Even though he may have been overpaid, I respect him. I respect Trouba’s contribution even though he was overpaid and his skill diminished. Kreider has earned my respect. I simply wrote that I don’t believe Kreider’s departure will be handled with great respect, as in my opinion, Drury has not shown that attribute in the past, just as you and others on this board don’t, and that’s OK. It is possible to fire/trade an individual, and show respect at the same time. I wouldn’t expect you to understand that. And again, that’s OK.

Reactions: Pawnee Rangers
We have to stop paying top dollar for UFAs as though they will save our team. Outside of Messier, when has that ever worked? That was a different time. There was no salary cap, and Marner is no Messier.

It didn't work with Panarin. Why would it work with Marner? His teams have had zero success in the playoffs. He isn't a guy that is going to put the team on his back in the playoffs and lead them to a cup.

No, we don't. We have to actually do the opposite of stop. Because our brain dead GM decided to give a goaltender a billion dollars. So now we have to go for it, every year. This was the one punted season. This is the mulligan.

Zegras isn't the mold of player Drury has typically been targeting, but he has been linked here before and was mentioned once again by some reporters at the deadline. He is having not a great year on a completely dead team over there. Only 1 year on his contract still and then back to RFA. He could possibly be had for pretty damn cheap at this point. If the Rangers wanted to go with a young line hoping for upside skill on the 3rd line they could run something like Othmann - Zegras - Perreault next season. Go back to the solid 4th line of Edstrom - Carrick - Rempe. That is a pretty good bottom 6 with scoring upside.

The bigger problem is addressing adding a top talent to the top line, but that is a whole different discussion.

I just think looking to add Zegras at this point might be worth exploring to try to reignite his career, add some scoring skill, and it wouldn't be cost prohibitive. Wouldn't be shocked if something around Berard + Jones + something gets the conversation started.

Also would want to revisit Buffalo. Seravalli reported for certain there are "malcontents" there that don't want to be there and said Peterka is one of them.

Buffalo fans are dying for players that play differently than their current players do. They also want a defensive minded Dman (preferably righty) badly. Power and Byram seem to be a stalemate where both show great offensive prowess at times but have essentially found it impossible to improve their defensive games.

Schneider + Laf for Peterka + Power

Trade for Brady Tkachuk

Edit*
Actually never mind probably not worth it. I was only saying because him and Miller give you guys a Panthers style top 6

Kreider feels 100% gone

1 of Panarin or Zibs feels more likely than not to be gone

Schneider feels like the writing is on the wall for him to be in a trade to bring back a young top 6 skill scoring player
The other RD on this team could bring back a young top 6 forward and a top 4 D but you guys are married to this player for some unknown reason. The team would be better and that's all that matters.

Kreider gave up the puck twice in the first 6 minutes last night. Two bad turnovers. Kreider tried to pass the puck to KAM in the Rangers zone but Draisaitl is in the passing lane. He is right there. McDavid had a scoring chance. On the PK, Kreider tries to pass the puck to Zibanejad to make a play and Draisaitl is there again.

Kreider is miraculously able to play after the trading deadline. He would skate with the team in the morning skate but wouldn’t play in the games prior to March 7. After the deadline, Chris is able to play.
The board would have nailed Lindgren to the cross if it had been him that turned the puck over...but Kreider does it and .....
