It needs…. *gasp*…..

A rebuild.

This team is trash. It has nothing. It never developed enough talent and now even the young pieces it had have been frittered away or misdeveloped. The pieces holding this garbage barge afloat were elite Panarin, rejuvenated Kreider, other old players.

The wheels are off now. They got too old and did not have the young pieces to pass the torch to. Shouldn’t have paid the goalie when you have no skaters to build around. This is a mess. There is literally nothing to build around. Your best asset is the 32 year old center you just traded for.

What an idiotic move that was.

“2 windows” was always an inherently flawed concept

At this point I’m sort of whatever on what happens the rest of the season. I’d prefer they win enough the next 20 games to make sure the 1st conveys this year to Pitt.

But they’re basically in no mans land right now. A team in transition that is not nearly good enough to contend, but also not close to being bad enough for a high pick

That’s what we have yep.

How anyone can have the balls to look at that and say “this is a team with a good chance to win a cup” is beyond me.

We don’t have Henrik any more. Time to stop pretending we do by trying to build a skyscraper out of legos

And yet our goalie is paid as if we do. I'm legit convinced Drury thought he was righting the Joe Schoen wrong of letting Saquon Barkley go terrifed he'd go to the Devils and win a cup or something.

The only positives to take away from this daily menstrual cycle of a team is Rempe is improving and Berard is the bottom 6 motor we've missed since hagelin. Carrick is a positive as a 4th liner not as a 3C.

Also, anyone else notice that Othmann is getting subjected to and falling hook-line-sinker for the 4th line trap development that Laf and Kaako went through. Instead of rising up he's trying to play like a plug.

Lol dude what? Tampa traded a lot of firsts but they also nailed later round picks….

Cirelli - 72nd overall
Kucherov - 58th overall
Point - 79th overall
Gourde - undrafted
Killorn - 77th overall
Palat - 208th overall
Tyler Johnson - undrafted

Tampa are the anti-Rangers. Instead of sucking the soul out out of their prospects they build up real fighters. Imagine that.

What a job by Drury to lock in elite options with term like Borgen, Vaakanainen, and Soucy. Can’t wait to watch these beasts for years to come especially with Schneider. It will be cool to see if they can get a few more 6/7 defenseman and maybe start filling out the 3rd 4th lines with them. Maybe on the power play too. Keep em comin

I'm saying it's remarkable that he's got that many points with linemates that aren't helping him much...thats what im saying, you dont need to interpret my words for me.
I’m telling you how they read. If you don’t want them read, why are you posting them?
And it’s just as easy to say he’s not helping his linemates much. Or we could just say the whole line has declined, inclucing Pan, without having a chicken or the egg argument. The “we’ll have to replace Pans 100pts” argument is moot to me because even if we kept him he’s not going to score 100 points. IMO.

You are 100% correct. All 3 have slipped this season. My disappointment is I predicted that Bread and Vince would decline from career years in their 30's but I had thought Laf would be the guy to take a step up at his age. I really do not know what happened with Laf. He looked ready to take that next step early in the season. Looked like he was in playoff form if not better. Just a strange season where all our warts were not only exposed but got much larger.
I agree. Laf was particularly puzzling this year.

Yeah, that's actually a good point and a poor choice of words on mine. I should've said they didn't rely on 1st round picks.

But, shit, I wish we drafted in the later rounds like they did. That's quite the list

Yep. And they hit huge on some of those 1st rounders. Stamkos, Hedman, Vasilevskiy. They had a 1st and 2nd overall pick back to back way back when. They didn't emerge with a Kakko and Laf though.

They did have some not so good 1st rounders along the way though. Connolly 6th overall. Koekkoek 10th overall. DeAngelo 19th overall.

You get Stamkos, Hedman, and Vasi, and you've bought yourself a ton of runway. Then add in the pieces in the later rounds that you have there. There's a dynasty.

After the Leafs game, the Rangers had 23 games remaining. Steve Valiquette said the Rangers had to go 17-6 to qualify for the playoffs. The Rangers are 2-1-2. Is that 2-3? The Rangers have two loser points. 18 games remaining. The Rangers needed 34 points. They have 6 points so far. The Rangers need to go 14-4 for 34 points. The Rangers have a bad record against teams in playoff positions. 9 wins out of 30 games.

Ottawa and Columbus outplayed the Rangers this weekend. Ottawa was down 2-0 and 3-1 but those leads didn't feel safe. The Rangers were terrible last night. They played an awful 19 minutes but ended up 1-1 after the first period. Columbus made mistake after mistake on the PP. 3-3. Sam and Joe are going crazy. Maybe the Rangers can build off this momentum Joe. Nope. 5-3 after the 2nd period. I don't know about you but I was laughing when Columbus scored the 4th and 5th goals. Werenski is skating circles around the Rangers. Nobody touches him. Stick checking. Players left all alone in front of the net.

The Rangers have 7 games in 12 days.

At the Jets, Wild and Columbus. Home for Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver.

Columbus and Edmonton are back to back games.

Lose to Winnipeg. Beat the Wild. Too many injuries. Lose to Columbus. Lose to Edmonton and Toronto. Split the Calgary and Vancouver games? Win both? The Rangers will end up 2-5 or 3-4. The Vancouver game is a Saturday afternoon game.

The Rangers follow up the 7 games in 12 with a California trip. The Rangers have never been to California this late in the season. LA is battling for home ice in the first round. Big win last night. The Ducks and Sharks are back to back. You know Trouba has that game circled on his calendar for the last 4 months right next to a picture of his wife and kid. He has been away from them since early December. Trouba will put major money on the board for that game. The entire team will get a Rolex watch if the Ducks win. The Rangers go 1-2 or 1-1-1 on the west coast.

Looks like there's no need to play the games since the results are already decided then.

I like this type of rough landing/ending.

Get rid of Lavi.... so we can hire another retread and do this again in 2 years..... or hire someone young and innovative that can coach/teach... Crazy concept.

The team has checked out.... already making vacation plans.

Washington's only dead weight (Oshie and Backstrom) LTIRetired, and their young guys have stepped up. They had a significant amount of cap space to make those moves in the summer.

I don't think it will be nearly as simple for the Rangers. I don't think we're winning anything with this core. We need a complete overhaul.
Which should have started the moment they quit on Gerard Gallant and also when Drury failed to provide Gallant with what he wanted at that trade deadline in players . Dickhead new coach took an already established club with a better roster OA then Gallant had and improved by a few points OA . Not a big achievement ! Then this season the team decided to lollygag all season and basically quit on another coach . I'm not sure how many punches to the back of Drury's head is needed before he figures things out ? Hopefully Sather makes a ph call today and tells Dummy Dolan to ASAP FIRE DRURY -coaching staff and let the new staff figure out who they want around next season . Bring in a guy that won't allow his club to be pushed around . It was sad watching Miller scamper away while Borgen dropped the gloves . Laf was no better .

Watch the Rangers miss the playoffs by 1 point and still lose their 1stt round pick. Maybe the best case is ro go on long enough losing streak to be able to keep the 1st round pick. This is nor a playoff team. Lots of issues. Lack of hockey IQ, System, elite talent, young talent, skating, Speed, Tenacity and ,team defense

The game was a mess last night but lets include some perspective. The Rangers played the day before, in a physical game against Ottawa, then flew back home to NY to play a team that hadn't played in a few days. This is going to be the nature of their schedule but the team isn't THAT bad.

Miller-Borgen is still a solid pairing.

The team greatly misses Fox.

I am still not sure about Schneider. Depending on what opens up in the offseason, he's the player I may use as a trade chip.

Panarin and Kreider need to go in the off-season. Othmann, Berard, Perrault. Influx of youth. The road will be bumpy but each of those guys brings something unique the team needs. I've been impressed by Othmann. Good along the boards. Knows what to do with the puck. His line creates offense regularly and he's playing with Rempe and Brodzinski. Rempe appears to have taken a nice step this season. To me, he's a solid NHL 4th liner. Protects the puck, plays physical, pressures on the forecheck.

K'Andre and Schneider need to be trade bait this summer. Neither are progressing here and both still hold value around the league. Capitalize now before its too late. Probably late with K'Andre but teams are dying to get their hands on Schneider.

Schneider + for Peterka
K'Andre for a late first

I'd pony up for Gavrikov or Chychrun on July 1. If we have all three of K'Andre Soucy and Vaak on the left side the season is over before it starts. In a perfect world Soucy and Borgen can be an excellen bottom pairing but if we are going to force these guys to eat 20+ minutes, nothing is going to change.
