I dunno, I look at the roster Drury inherited from Gorton and find it hard to see any really meaningful improvement over his tenure. Better in some places, worse in others. I guess the “plan” was to just blindly assume that Krav, Kakko, and Laf would develop into big time players, but then not actually put them into a position to do so (with the caveat that, even if they were in that position, it wouldn't be a guarantee).
We’re going to be going on four years with Drury this summer. I know Gorton hamstrung him in some ways, but four years is a very long time in the NHL. Maybe it’s not the fairest time to judge, with big moves likely coming in the offseason, but that’s the reality of where we are right now.
