This just goes back to the lack of patience. We are a middling team at best. Trading young, cheap players for an older, more expensive player isn't going to make us contenders.

If trading Miller, as I'm proposing, is a viable option so would other RFA's that we might be trading Miller for. Also, with the cap going up offer sheets might be a thing for once.

Who was the last Ranger coach who used a true meritocracy? A common complaint, especially after losses, is that the Coach's lineup was less than optimal.
Seems like a perpetual complaint regardless of who's calling the shots.

No, not all of these players are better options than Miller. But to play devil's advocate, how many of these guys will actually be available?
Everyone on your UFA list is likely to be re-signed by their current team with the possible exception of Orlov and Grzelcyk. Orlov is 33. How many years does he have left as a top 4 dman? Grzelcyk is 31 and undersized. He plays top 4 for Pittsburgh only because they have no better options.
Just because you are willing to trade Miller, that doesn't mean other teams will be willing to trade any of the above RFAs. Outside of Byram, I don't see any of the other RFAs being available, and Byram has his own set of issues.
Half of the players you listed are right-handed. Maybe some can play the left side, but it's not a given.
Lastly, if we are trading Miller, then we need two top-4 LDs. A top 4 that includes some combination of Orlov, Grzelcyk and Byram isn't likely to be very effective.
The grass isn't always greener. You undervalue the player you've been watching every day for years and overvalue players you rarely see. The fact is, there aren't many better options out there. Trading Miller is just creating another hole for us on defense that we'd likely be unable to fill.

I'm not so sure all those UFA's are better than Miller. I think if you replace Miller with some of them, we'd be viewing them the same exact way. I think there's a major issue with our structure and support from the team.

That may be true, but it wouldn't change the fact that the majority of the players you listed won't be available. And when you add in things like cost and age, it doesn't make any sense to trade Miller.
I can agree that Ekblad is a better player than Miller, but he's 4 years older, has an extensive injury history, and will cost at least 3 mil more than Miller while probably getting a full NMC for the next 7 years. He might make us better in the short term, but likely not enough to make a meaningful difference.
You could cut a reel of Byram miscues over the last week and a half that would make everyone on this board change their tune on him real quick.
Luke Hughes has been one of the worst defensive players in the league since Christmas after being one of the worst defensive players in the league last year. He plays way too much and too high in the lineup that thats on coaching, but with out the Hughes name he'd be viewed at as another Tyson Barrie.
Pionk is LOL, Provorov sucks and Gryz is okay.... if you're playing him on a bottom pair.

We need to remember eye test proves KAM + Schneid have shown enough to merit staying. The need is to focus on
a) best system to use
b) better player combos to find best chemistry
That imo is current rule.

Keep in mind that my reluctance here is also his upcoming contract. If we're talking a 1-2 year show me at 5M, I have no problem with that. If we're talking an 8 YR x 7M type thing then I'm jumping overboard.

Like @HockeyBasedNYC with Laf, I just want to turn the page on Kreider, Panarin, etc. Even if the page turns to new turds, I'd still prefer to watch the latter. I'm tired watching this core. Bring on the next generation.

HSCs are awful and give way too much weight to goals for/against. I went over this with Loki a few weeks ago.
Using NST as part of their formula is even worse. Pionk has been one of the worst defensive defensemen in the league since he entered it. There is plenty of data to support this.

They couldn’t get it done when this core was in their prime. It would be insanity to try again next season. At least 2 of Kreider, Panarin, and Zibanejad need to go.
Yeah Kreider alone isn't enough.
I struggle with the other. Zibanejad is the logical choice since it's 1 year vs 5 but I feel like nothing really changes until Panarin is gone. This mess really started with him.

that we had this guy do all the tip in dirty work in front of the net b'c nobody else was stud enuf to do so, we can SEE how he got injured.
It is MORE plausible to conclude he is injured and has been trying to come back and he's not cured enough for that to be effective.

Don't care honestly whatever it is. He's just not good enough to help the team right now trying to make the postseason and shouldn't be playing. Watch YT videos of his past performance if that brings you comfort.
