Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

That team was the like an infirmary ward of an Army platoon by the end of that run. Bill Berg, Sundstrom, Leetch, Graves, Messier & Pat Flatley were all banged up. Then poor Karpovtsev's mom died in the middle of the Flyers series.

The team was so short-handed we had the Ferraro twins, Dallas Eakins, Ken Gernander & Christian Dube playing in multiple games. Everyone except Daniel Goneau got a shot at some point. Gretzky & Leetch were literally the one two guys providing any offense toward the end.

Losing Kovalev & not re-signing Verbeek killed that season. Things could've ended up very differently.

He's running out of shoulders.
It might sound crazy, but I was never more proud of being a Ranger fan in that series with the Flyers. That was the most banged up I ever saw them: yet they played hard and fearless, giving it all they had. It was an inspiring run/

I already took the devils to miss the playoffs in a bet, wish I put more on it,

On krieder, idc if he comes back as an all star, this guy is part of the core issue with the country club atmosphere. Move his ass off the team, continue to see what’s up with zibs the rest of the season since he seems to have stepped up his game.

Smith and krieder must go.
I have seen this "country club atmosphere" wording thrown around a lot and it needs to die. It's speculation, imagination, or clinging to an idea that's not relevant anymore like it once was. It's not the late 90s or early 00s. This is not where players go to retire nor is it *the* place to go to get overpaid like it used to before the salary cap era. This is a team that's missed the playoffs a handful of times in almost two decades, and over that time did it with plenty of "homegrowns" (like Kreider). The Rangers spend, but they also compete.

Kreider has a reputation for training hard. Earning that reputation among professional athletes is... probably not easy. He has shown plenty of emotion in his 13 years with the team, and has delivered some results in big games, he has never been a passenger. If anyone wants to say he plays a soft game, I'd agree with them. He could have been a bully physically if he wanted, and he certainly could've been more physical in general. But he does not deserve to be made a scapegoat of something is probably not even guilty of himself. The team might be better moving on from him at this point or in a year or two, but if you're going to say even if he "comes back as an all star" that he's somehow a problem, that's extreme.

Not sure what your point is here. We shouldnt try to improve because the team is flawed?
You said:

Fate has smiled upon Drury with this Hughes injury, he’s a coward if he doesn’t further improve the team before Friday.
I'm saying that his injury has absolutely no bearing on what the Rangers should or shouldn't do.

Dallas Eakins had never played forward in his life. Slotted in as third line wing and checked like crazy.

My sense is that a) a lot of teams (more than usual) think they can make a run at The Cup this year and b) there are still a lot of teams outside the top eight that think they can get into the playoffs. Think playoff revenue.

It will make for an interesting 48 hours and may set off some things (e.g. a Kreider deal) that I though unlikely.

It's not speculation for everyone. A level or entitlement had absolutely fostered with a segment of this roster. I posted about this prior to Thanksgiving and the impending roster carnage and drama. Not everything is speculation

Again, it’s a TEAM that makes the playoffs. The sens have sucked pretty much forever. Like I said before Tkachuk is exactly what you want on your team come playoff time. Everyone, myself included, complained how Panarin disappeared last year in the playoffs. A guy that plays Tkachuks style of game doesn’t disappear and drags the other guys into the game. Tkachuk and JT Miller types are playoff players.
I am over the Panarin nonsense from dummies last year. Either you have a poor understanding of what the word disappear means or you have a poor understanding of what the word playoffs means. The Florida series didn’t constitute the entirety of the playoffs. Bread had 15 points in 16 games and was very good against a tough Carolina team in round 2.

Miller had 12 in 13 games, so I suppose he disappeared too, but maybe your math is as good as your vocabulary.

Back to what actually matters in this discussion. Ottawa made the playoffs the year right before BT’s rookie year.

He has never made the playoffs. 6 going on 7 seasons.

I don’t give a damn how disappointing you think a player’s playoffs are…if you are actually in them and all you have done is scratched the ice with your blades it’s a better playoff track record than BT so far.

Let me explain this to you in crayons.

If you want to bone the prom queen you have to attend prom. And getting a slow dance with her is at least better than being at home in your Spongebob jammies eating Cheetos.

Don’t like that analogy?

When you go to the zoo you aren’t guaranteed to see the Siberian Tigers as they may be lounging behind a big rock , but there is a chance they may be active because you GOT TO THE DAMN ZOO. And you also probably got to see some giraffes and monkeys and shit (playoff series wins) and a good time was had. But if you don’t go to the f***ing zoo you ain’t seeing a damn animal in your basement unless your jammies have zebras or rhinos on them.

My left nut may be a great playoff performer but we will never know as it hasn’t made the playoffs in 6.5 years and neither has BT.

Death, taxes, Rangers giving up an early goal, and Jack Hughes getting hurt. Dude has a Make A Wish build. He got exposed in the 4 nations. That’s why I never worry about the Devils winning a cup. Bratt is a midget too. Pond hockey works in the regular season but it’s a man’s game in the playoffs.

Great...Now Drury's going to give away more draft picks to rent your left nut. Then we get to hear Bern complain about it all summer because your left nut was too old.

Yeah it was a great run, but that was the death rattle for that era as well. Losing that series was tough from a fan's POV, compounded with Messier leaving 2 months later. The games never really affected me as much once that run was over. The Dark Ages began & life moved on for me as I was working full time & had a full social calendar.

I'd like to make the playoffs this year, just for the heck of it and to get our younger guys more experience, hand over the 1st to Vancouver, and move on.

But I really don't see us as a contender. Sure, you never know once you're in there, but I don't see it.

I just don't want Drury to do anything stupid before Friday. Unload the expiring contracts as much as possible, put some feelers out for an LD upgrade, and call it a day.
