If Rantanen wants to maximize his earnings he should probably sign a 1-2 year deal for a high AAV and then sign long term at that point when the cap is like 15-20M higher. Not like it's unheard of. Max Scherzer and Juan Soto did it recently in baseball. He's already made ~60M so he doesn't have the risk like a guy coming off ELC who could be left with minimal earnings if things gobad.

If that were the case, I'd be very interested in him from a Rangers perspective. He's much more valuable to us for 2-3 seasons than 8. Probably a lot of teams would see it that way too.

Dallas and Carolina had a deal in place for Rantanen, but Dallas couldnt work out an extension he'd be agreeable to. Now Dreger reporting the deal is off. This guy seems overly demanding. Thats 3 teams now that heavily value him and he couldnt agree with. He's overplaying his hand.

I'm so relieved this guy hasn't been linked to the Rangers. He is either A) A passenger and regardless of how skilled he may be, a passenger isn't worth the $ he wants, IMO. AND/OR B) He's pouting and playing like ass on CAR because he didn't want to be traded - we just went through this horseshit this season with the pouting and stamping feet and not trying. I want nothing to do with this guy. Let him be some other team's overpaid headache.

Anyone else seeing the Novak for Otthman + 2nd rumor? Feels like Pitt just got him for less. I like the target, don’t love that price at all. Would prefer it’s not true.

Woke up feeling very optimistic in regards to the plan going forward for this team. the open heart surgery that's been performed on the roster this season has been impressive. Drury has threaded the needle. We dumped our biggest albatrosses in Goodrow, Trouba and Lindgren. We've gotten younger in many areas. We've added picks and controllable young depth. The structure and physicality has made a noticeable difference in how the team plays, and the sustainability of it. And through it all we are right back in the thick of the playoff race. Keep going, Pizza Man.

I have not seen the rumor but Othmann was involved in the Guentzel trade talks with Pittsburgh last year. They also just moved Bunting who is probably a good comparison for Othmann's upside.

I don't think that's a rumor - that's an HF poster making a proposal - and his proposals are always so terrible for the Rangers it makes me wonder if he's a troll pretending to be a Ranger's fan.
