Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

I hear you, I guess the question is whether you think those deals cost us a cup.

I look at major rangers cup killers the past 30 years and I mostly see…

Cherepanovs passing
Nash, Richards, MSL declining faster than we wanted
Yandle being misused by the coach
Signing Boyle over Stralman

As the real things that maybe took a bit out of our chances to win it all.
Signing Girardi over Stralman*

Some rumors yesterday the Rangers might help with retention on Vanacek.

Signing Girardi AND Staal* over keeping Stralman AND Yandle.

I find this to be unlikely and a bad idea (not impossible) given that we just saw that retaining on Frederic got the Devils roughly nothing in return. What is the point in paying the 1.7M AAV left on his contract also for likely nothing in return and wasting the retention spot? They'll only have one spot left, assuming they retain on Smith. It almost surely would be better to wait until closer to the deadline and see if a big salary player needs someone to help with and that could actually get something of value back.

I would hate Crouse. He doesn't do enough that's tangible to justify the intangibles that he brings.

I don't even care about points bouncing up and down -- he just doesn't drive play. He never did whether the points are there or not.

He's just a version of Cuylle that's worse at everything. We can get Othmann to do that right now for league minimum and no assets.

if the Rangers can get a LD young dman as a thanks, this can be worth something even if its a Mancini level, I mean he came out of nowhere. Not a bad thing if the Rangers can and will be willing to do this. Young dman is a need. Do the Rangers have to keep relying on Mackey and Harpur every season, this happens when you have little young AHL dman 20, 21 22 year old range.

I'll add.

Zubov Trade
Messier's return (team sucked anyway but wrong wrong wrong approach)
2003 draft Jessiman pick

If we’re adding a forward it needs to be a 3C that can skate, play with pace and forecheck

Man, Crouse is having a down year after 2 really solid ones but he seems like exactly the type to fit this new roster. Big hitter and a good goal scorer. Still only 27 with 3 years at 4.3 left. I like Macelli too. Linemates.

Why Crouse? Makes 0 sense since the Rangers have enough wingers. If McBain or a center is available, Rangers should target him. Center depth is important.

Agreed. Id like to have the opportunity to retain on Kreider or something rather than gain a 5th round pick

Crouse can only do one of those things. He's not that fast and he doesn't have the skill to play fast.

He's decent on the powerplay, and falling off of Utah's first unit is what caved his numbers. He would have no prayer of landing on our first unit. He wouldn't even be the first guy on it if somebody got hurt. He wouldn't be the second guy.

Hey Folks,

Just a reminder, as we get closer to the TDL, please only post rumors or news from legit sources. A person with 3k followers on twitter is not a source.

Also, please provide a link to that legit source and not “Friedman said this”

Lastly, if you are not vetted , do not post hearsay or insider info. It will be removed immediately.

Thanks and may the odds be ever in your favor.

I don’t think I have the vocabulary to properly explain how I would feel if we overtook the Devils spot in the divison.

I think my life expectancy would increase by 3 1/2 years

Its been destined to happen since they posted the Rangers dumpster fire tweet in December. They are like 10-14 since. Their 14 year old fans writing checks their Tiktok hockey team can't cash. But hey, at leas they built a team just like us. Bad 5v5 and reliant on the PP and goalie. I know how the movie ends.

He doesn’t have the skill to handle the puck and make plays fast. But he definitely gets in on the forecheck to pressure and create turnovers fast. He’s one of the fastest straight line skaters in the league. His top speed is like .4 MPH lower than Necas and that was pretty much always the allure with him. Basically, big man fast. He’s basically what would happen if you combined Gauthier and Kreider (as in less good Kreider) but more truculent. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’s going to really be effective even as a 3LW for much longer with the way he plays and the way his production has dipped. But I don’t disagree with you, only that I believe he’s very fast.

I might be thinking of somebody else on the speed thing.

Fast and physical tracks with what Drury has added to the team recently. I think if Kreider is moving you have to expect money back, but agree with others who have said it should be a LD or C.

Also, if we're adding a winger, you have to be pretty f***ing good for me to choose you over putting Berard into whatever spot is available.

We need to just sink or swim with Berard in a legit top six role. The guy is the truth.
I am all for it. Didn't get a legit chance this year. If they don't next year then really gonna be frustrating.

Agreed. leaves me wondering where Othmann fits long-term. Cuylle and berard have passed him and gabe is hot on his heels.
